Alan Dawa Dolma is a Chinese-born Tibetan Buddhist J-Pop star who aims to sing about “love and peace” in her music. Her single “Ashita e no sanka” is particularly remarkable for Alan’s (pronounced Ah-lan) use of the ancient “Tibetan wail” style of singing along with the erhu, a Chinese two-stringed instrument that Alan was forced to learn as a child as a punishment for behaving like a tomboy.

You are right. They are only referring to her as Alan. Maybe that's an Avex decision to avoid controversy. I mean, just look at some of the BS posted here. Some people just cann't leave politics alone and enjoy good music. It would be a distraction for her. At least China doesn't have any interest in hiding her ethnicity. In all the reports I saw, her ethnicity is highlighted prominently. Lovely, gifted, AND loyal, she is like a poster girl for the new Tibet that China wants to show the world.

That's a good thing really. She needs to break away from the Tibetan stereotype and not be pigeon-holed as an "ethnic singer" anyway. This is especially important in the China market. A lot of great minority singers wasted away their careers singing only ethnic songs. Han Hong should be her model.
