I just finished reading his memoir, and it will have you laughing one minute and then sobbing the next. So utterly gripping that you don't want to put it down but so deeply personal you feel as those you shouldn't be reading it! Highly recommend.

Please do read it. I'm not a huge reader but it really was a striking read, the audio book honestly made me cry. I really don't know how it was written so well. My heart goes out to Alan.

Fan from the U.S. here, so it took longer to get my hands on it, but it was worth the wait. I teach senior IB English, and this is so masterfully written that I plan on using a couple chapters with my students.

What a nice guy. The book is a "must read". I read alot of bios, but his memoir takes you through one very haunting thread of his life. Such an impact on any reader. It is the most honest peice of non fiction that I have ever read. Thank you Allen Davies.

"What a nice guy" ... you have got to be kidding, sounds like this book is a list of excuses for being "not a nice guy" ... this is why i,m like i am ... poor me .. He bit another human yunno, a human that was down on his luck too, totally unprovoked attack on a man that called him a name , not the C word that mr Davies claimed, in fact mr Davies was the only one there that used that word, the C word that the man called poor mr Davies was "Creek".. he called him Jonathon Creek...

I was not going to reply to your nonsense. But it is clear that you have not read the book! 🙃 You hv not read the book! Do u need me to give you 15£'s ? How about a few dollars for coffee? Did you get thrown out of the library already using their free PC ? You make assumptions of the the "innocent" drunk yelling Creek in his ear? Where you there? Where is your report filed? Not with the police. No lawsuit, mmm? Even alone without his children, Davies has been vocal about his reticence on being approached by strangers who assume they know him, nevermind sloppy drunks outside of a club. There are 12 reports on file that refute your claim. None to the contrary No? No, I don't work for the publisher. I am here in Malibu. Out here and in NYC, ( and I WOULD have assumed London?), people ignore celebs, except for sleazy paps & shabby autographed sellers) I actually Ordered the book from Waterstone's and another from a local "mom & pop" store for a friend who also had his childhood ripped away from him. Unlike Davies, my buddy cannot recount the good and the fun that also filled his childhood. Buy the book, it's a good read. If you grew up, ( hv u ever grown up?), in the era we did; myself in NYC and Davies in Essex, the pop culture references are so similar & much fun. Buy the book, then spout your hate. I guess many are miserable inside, until they find their happiness. It seems that he has now, contrasted by the 13 years repressing it all and living an unhappy self contained "wasted" life while he should have been wallowing in happiness. Again, by the book, I will pre- pay for a copy for you to p/u at any "mom & pop" shop. They're struggling a little harder ($), though this pandemic.

People find truly odd why a bunch of grown men standing outside a man's funeral at 11PM ? Yelling out to Alan D. in the cold night air. You must have hid in the library this eve for warmth and to use their pc. Will be happy to buy you the book as you hv not read it. Will be happy to buy you a hot meal & a bedsit for a few days? For someone so blase' abt. Allen - you are very empassioned. The course wld hv assigned a free prosecutor- had there been a case. OR ONE SINGLE, JUST ONE OF A BITTEN EAR. YOU AND YOUR CURBSIDE, "STAND BEHIND THE VELVET ROPES" lose, ( every -time, even w/ yr. dole stipences). Dole paid by peeps like Davies, who earned £3 million last year. Odd. oh, & I can send you 2 books of mine - - moderate sellers, (only 230,000 units each were sold here in the states, despite great reviews and a literary award for both, that is, both NON FICTION. I hope the library keeps their heating on It is so late. And again, 11 PM? why were you losers hanging around in the curb at a funeral,? Did the church not hv enuf beds for you that night?

Wow, I just finished this, I had no idea what i was in for. I was expecting a funny memoir of his rise to stardom, but in stead i got an account of sexual abuse. Im glad I downloaded it. If the "dark numbers " of rape are big, i bet the reporting of fathers abusing their sons is even less reported. A very important book.

The truth isnt always nice. I dont agree he,s "such a nice man" either. Moreover things may not be as they seem, Fact/Fiction ?? Who knows, if a person fibs on one subject they may have you tricked on others. Alan leaving a friends funeral / memorial close to midnight, has to deal w/ GROWN MEN WAITING OUTSIDE FOR......$ ? autographs? selfies?, no, no cameras/smartphones among 4 men? No police charges filed? No civil charges filed ? No pics? No answer as to why 4 middle-aged men were standing in the gutter waiting outside a TV producer memorial? HE CANNOT SEEM TO ANSWER EASY QUESTIONS. HE CAN, HOWEVER SPEW HATE ON ALL OF THESE THREADS? A problem with success? Dido penned her songs. liscenced them & made 6 million USD and is still young with plenty ahead. Davies talks a great about 13 yrs. almost wasted by anger, ill behavior & being anti- social. But there is alot of joy in this book. Just wish those 4 easy questions could be answered. They are straightforward. much like his hate for people. Buy the book. Enjoy all of it's themes. It is not sad, but yes sad, as it is graphic. It's cover becme quite sad, after reading about such an innocent. I had to rest it face down on my wife's desk, as she was reading it. The cover is really haunting, as I have a friend who never recovered from a similar trauma at that same age. Poor man is 58 and cannot work, function socially at all. So it is intetesting to read abt. someone grieve silently & isolated himself from good feelings for 13 important, successful - his young years. Get help. Get married, find happiness and address it all head on and heal as best as one can.

Why did it take so long to accuse his father of sexual abuse ,was because he saw an opportunity when his father was too I'll to defend himself and he saw the chance to sell his pathetic book I know his father Roy and he is a thoughly nice man and while may have been a strict after his mother died l cannot believe he would behave in this way but it helps to sell his pathetic book

Sorry your friend isn’t the man you thought he was. He fooled a lot of people. I don’t see any reason to disbelieve what I’ve read, it’s a book that rings true in its consistency. There’s a lot of people like Roy out there, male and female both.
