So there I was, about 1972, doing the weekly wash by hand and listening to BBC Radio 3 when, suddenly, I heard something that completely bowled me over - I stopped washing and just listened. Then, as soon as it was over, I went dashing down the garden to tell my husband I had just heard the most incredible piece of music. That moment and this music has stayed with me ever since. Thank you for sharing.

Discovering the music of Alan Hovhaness is one of the luckiest things that can happen and I'm thankful for it.

This is an excellent introduction, the perfect work to be your first Hovhaness experience! At 11:21 the music rises like the Sun and says "Behold. I am Hovhaness. It begins now. I take hold of you. I will be with you for decades. For I am Hovhaness."

Got an early recording of this in the 1970s and was bowled over. Somehow the music gets to the spiritual heart of FA's extraordinary work

Ah much better than Mysterious Mountain (that piece bores me to tears for some reason). This is really interesting.

This is one of the works that shows how false the claim that Hovhaness' music sounds pretty much the same is. This is very different in style from Mysterious Mountain. People with different preferences in music can choose from a selection of different styles among Hovhaness' music.

Roland, it's all about a composers' compositional style. This is exactly why we can identify one composers' music from another's. I've always said, music is similar to a fingerprint. No two are the exactly the same.

Is that a harp at 440, 445? Makes re-entry a little later. Or exotic percussion?
@brithgob1620 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a harp and a celesta to me.
