I was a 15 when they filmed some of this in my hometown of Jasper, Fl. My mom and stepdad are the ones setting by the gas pumps. Some of those empty stores in the video that I remember flourishing when I was a kid are still empty. The old man standing on the steps of the house waving was Mr. Harry T. Reid, our local undertaker and the house was the Jasper Hotel... it was just demolished about two months ago. Our poor little country town .... "God bless the Little Man"

I live about a half hour outside of Abilene Texas in the country, and Abilene has grown into your normal city, but the other day i was driving through town and saw something i couldn't believe. A station that said "Full service", and there was this old guy outside pumping somebody's gas, and he popped the hood, checked stuff, put some air in the tire, etc while i was watching at a light.. i had to u-turn back around and stop in. i'm 26 so i wasn't around when this was the normal thing, but it sure made me happy to see somebody still running they'r own station, full service and all. i think i'm gonna go there every week now, to help support his little store. God bless the little man!
@landosaurusrex978 жыл бұрын
79lance hard to come by that. I'm from a little town called rice lake, Wisconsin. Sad to see it expanding so much into a city. Walmart and other big businesses taking over. Out of all the gas stations we have there's only one full service cenex station. Always go out of my way to get fuel there and shoot the shit with the guys working there and grab a glass bottle of coke for 99 cents
@79lance8 жыл бұрын
Thats awesome. They came and opened a bunch of mini wal marts in all the little surrounding small towns around my area of the state about a year ago, and maybe about half of them have closed already. I was really surprised to see people stick with the family owned shops. It may sound messed up, but it was so satisfying to me to see the big money hungry business eat it haha Most importantly, to see the people stand up to keep theyr town from turning into a ghost town. Rice Lake, if i'm through Wisconsin i'll remember that . Keep up the good work my friend

In my town, the local grocery store owner carries groceries out for anybody in need, and knows every regular on a first name business... the gas station down the road also has full service. God bless this town and those who continue things like this. Small towns are the best thing in the world. After living in a city through university, I've come to appreciate this stuff ever more.

I heard this song today on a classic country radio station. The little girl running and sitting down from 1:46-1:54 was my first cousin. She sadly passed away in a car accident about 9 miles from where this was filmed in 2008. This is the first time I have watched this video since she left this earth because I couldn't handle the memories. However, seeing this video has brought back great memories of her and when the Little Man still stood tall. Thanks for a great song Alan. God Bless the Little Man and true country music.

My daddy stayed after hours repairing cars so the people could make it home safely or wherever they were traveling. This song always makes me cry. Reminds me of my dad who used to sing this. Reminds me of all his failed business ideas. RIP Dad, I love you

You're not the only one. I can still see (from memory) those very stores on Main Street and the guy pumping the gas and cleaning the glass. Bring those days back! ☹️👎

Greatest country artist of all time. AJ is the real king of country. I just saw him yesterday in Anaheim and it was incredible. Wish I couldve seen him more. I’ve been listening to AJ, George strait, Merle Haggard, hank and hank jr, etc since I was born with my father and Alan Jackson is by far the most talented singer and musician

26 years ago and sounds just as good today. Great era of country music. Seems years ago. But once heard again brings back all the great memories and sounds of that era. God bless Allan and the little man ❤

This is one of the most moving videos I have seen. The foundation of ANY community is the little man, little woman or those Mom and Pip stores that have faded with the tapestry of life’s wandering from town to town. The slurries are what I remember at our local little town run at a local mom and pop stirred that no longer exists. Thank you for remembering and memorializing the importance of the little mam. I love your songs. ❤️
