I was home sitting on the ground cluching my wedding band. I knew when the second plane hit that my husband was going to war. He was a Staff Sargent in the Air Force at the time. I was right. He did 3 tours and was gone for almost 4 years. He finally came home for good after being shot a second time. He went on to served another 15 years before retiring. That day changed the world.

At work. Me too, I knew both my sons where going to war. I was chilled to the bone . I was blessed they came home. One had been stop gapped in and was out and back home not too long after back in Georgia. The other stayed in but was stateside until his enlistment was up. My heart goes out to you. I don't know that I could have survived sanity intact if my sons had re-upped.

I knew when the first plane hit and then all the other reports of other hijackings going on I knew it was a terrorist attack I don't know if it was International terrorist attack or if it was domestic care but I knew either way something had to be done but then we had to take an accountant who are president was George Bush didn't want to go to war I still don't think he ever wanted to he just was forced to buy everybody wanting to go to War the shity part is with what Joe Biden just stood with the Taliban the last 20 years was for nothing and all the great military members such as your husband it was all about nothing hope your husband know that we all appreciate what he did

I was at home, in my office waiting for my husband to let me know he had arrived at the Pentagon. Thankfully, he was running late and on the exit ramp for the Pentagon when the plane hit, I was a wreck until I heard from him. My children's schools locked down until the officials were certain that DC was not being attacked, then they let us collect our children. It was a scary day, but also eye opening that I had so much to be thankful about.

I am a 42 year old mom of 2 boys.. ages 20 & 17 and my oldest was a baby and I woke up to feed him and turned on the t.v. .... I have never been more scared than when I flipped on the t.v. and saw what was happening.... scariest day of my life honestly but now I am almost as scared daily with what is going on in our government.

I was 21 working in Texas at a power plant. I was obvious to the reality of the gravity of that attack on our way of living. Most don't know the repercussions of that day. We still live in the greatest country just be sure that you investigate everything and don't let our constitution become a "outdated " document. Ppl before us would have died for what we have...

I was eight years old I was in elementary school music class and usually there’s two music classes right next to each other and they stopped the class and moved us all into one room and the teachers had the door open between the rooms and they were all gathered around the TV. I remember singles on TV my aunt came and picked me and my siblings and my cousins all out of school early that day and went home. The kids were supposed to be outside playing but I came in and I laid behind one of the couches and just watched it on TV it is just such a vivid memory for me.

I was at work, at a group home for adults with developmental disabilities. I was supposed to be helping folks get up and ready for the day but we just sat and watched the TV. All activities were canceled. My mom was visiting from Germany, where my dad was stationed and she ended up staying for longer than expected.

Awesome reaction. I can never listen to this without crying. I listened to this over over to mark the 20th anniversary .and cried myself out. It still feels like it happened yesterday . I was home . My mom called From work at 6 am ( we are in AZ). and because the whole house was asleep. The answering machine picked up and said that one of her customers told her the WTC had been bombed. Of course everyone got you up and ran to the tv..I saw the first tower smoking and the news anchor had said it was a small plane My aunt had wanted me to color and cut her hair so as we watched I began working on her hair at the same I was.trying.yp keep my eyes glued to the tv. I looked away for a split second to retrieve something when I looked back at the tv I saw the 2nd plane hit. My aunt screamerd I ust stood there in shock.i couldn't say anything I could not believe I saw a plane fly into the towerI just saw hundreds of people die .. I put my hair supplies away and just sat on the floor with my eyes glued . The rest if the day was a blur. My mom called and asked if I would bring a portable tv down to restaurant where she worked. Riding to the restaurant the there were hardly on cars on the road . Awkward since 6 -7 is ruah hour. It was so surreal. Things seemed to go in slow motion.. The rest of the day none of us did anything but watch news coverage In the following days we DID go to church and hold hands with strangers . There was an American flag behind the pr podium .. that was surreal. We were all crying and holding hands. After church we went to by yellow ribbon 🎗️ and put it around our trees. Such a horrible day.

I'm in Australia. I went to bed about 10:30 and was lying there reading. I could hear the TV on in the living room. I could tell something was going on, so I went out to see. I saw the first plane hit and thought it may just be an accident but when i saw the second, my stomach dropped.

I was teaching a class full of innocent children. Teachers took turns going to the break room to watch the tv. Such a scary day. I was supposed to leave Sept 12th for a trip to Europe. I wish this world would get back to how we were on Sept 12th. No one cared about race, political status. Everyone just rallied together.

I was 12, in 7th grade in Health & Safety class. We watched the news in that class and the tv was on for the BREAKING NEWS banner. Everyone else was finishing up a worksheet and I was done so I was watching. At first it was omg a fire, a small plane etc. the tv just played low in the background. We did the pledge, the morning announcements, and then out of the corner of my eye I saw the 2nd plane. Out loud I said OMG followed by holy fuck. My teacher then looked and it was when it was full explosion and she grabbed the tv and pushed it out of the door into the hall(still plugged in) and teachers came running to watch from other classrooms. I got up and walked into the hall and just stood there watching. An art teacher (that everyone hated) was like get back to class. And my teacher was like she watched it already. I was a good student so she just let me stay out there watching for the rest of class. When I left she was like listen 99% of the students do not know what’s going on, keep your mouth shut until the administration decides what we are doing. We had a normal school day but about 1/3 of the students were pulled out to go home by parents who were reasonably unsure. When I got home my mom was like sit down I need to show you something. And I said I know. I know what happened. But I didn’t know about the collapse, the pentagon, shanksville. I was the oldest of 4 and I remember my mom looking at me both of us crying and she said what do we tell the kids (my siblings) and I was like I don’t know!!!! And we kinda laughed because it was so overwhelming. When my dad got home he had heard it on the radio all day but had only seen clips here and there, I just remember being very quiet because he was so mad. I remember I’m pacing and red faced and unable to eat dinner. I remember him yelling at the tv, and trying not to cry. He kept saying if we are going to war I’m going and my mom was like you are old they don’t want you (he also wasn’t in the service). I remember my 10 year old sister just crying for days. And my 4 year old brother was completely oblivious. Now I have a 5 year old I have to explain it to someday, probably sooner than I want to but I want her to know what 9/11 felt like and then what 9/12 felt like.

Mo, thank you for sharing this. I think all of us who remember this event can clearly detail the circumstance, where we were and the rush of emotions. To me, what you have shared is a powerful story and a piece of your family history captured. Here very soon (as you mentioned) it will be your duty to share this history, (also this history from your perspective) to your young one. I would encourage you to detail this out on paper (similarly to what you have done here) so that there is a documented piece for your family, kid(s) and loved ones. Thank you for sharing this. It was powerful to read, and reinvoked the memories and emotions I had on that day. (particularly since there is Global tensions and uncertainty right now in Eastern Europe)

I had just started sixth grade. It happened about a week after school started and I was at school when it happened. The principal came over the intercom and said we were in lock down. (Mind you i live in Michigan) the principal told the teachers to turn on the news and my teacher turned on the news right when the second plane hit the twin towers. I sat down and cried

I was in my 7th science class and school like everything else just stopped. No one knew what was happening. There was even concerns that the school was gonna be attacked. I over heard some teachers and staff saying that. I went to school in Hollidaysburg, Pa. After the plane went down in PA school was let out early. One of the only times I can vividly remember the hallways being so quiet.

I had spent the night before at my parents' house. I walking to my door and my sister opens the door to her apartment, (she lived in the apartment right across from mine) and said, "A plane just hit the World Trade Center!" So, we went in her apartment to watch the report and saw the second plane hit before the reporter did. That's when my mom said, "This is a terrorist act."

I was nine years old, in class, and my teacher had the TV on already, because she looked at the weather every morning, just in case we got to go play outside later. The principal came over the loudspeaker and said that all teachers needed to turn onto the news channel immediately. She complied and the first thing we saw was two burning buildings. They did a replay of the second plane hitting in a small screen at the bottom. All thirty of us kids were silent, confused on why that happened. We saw people jumping from the buildings, falling to their deaths, and then we saw the buildings falling. One classmate said "People were in those!" A couple of kids were crying. I was just pale faced and confused. When she turned off the TV, our teacher calmly said " I know you probably want to ask some questions. There are things that happened on that TV that I can't tell you, because I don't know myself. But I will do my best to answer you." One kid immediately asked about the people who jumped, and she told him that they did that, because they felt that it was the only thing they could do. She told us that we would understand when we got a bit older and encouraged us to talk to our families about this. We immediately got to work on a Twin Tower memorial project.

I was 47...my three children were at school (daughter in 4th grade, son in 11th, other son in 12th). In kitchen cleaning up from breakfast when my sister-in-law called me to ask if I knew what was happening in NY. Unfreaking believable. Called my husband out of state... he said, “What do you mean one of the towers came down!??” Scary! We all knew we were under attack and had no idea where it would lead. Our children were informed by their school and the high school let them watch it unfold on tv.

I see on your shirt you were at "the Deid"? My daughter was also at there....in the summer. Good grief, the heat! Our family was on leave visiting my in-laws on September 11. My husband got recalled and it truly became real when we got back to the base and saw the enormous amount of security at the gate and then security for the school buses on base and those going from the base to the schools in town. My 26yo is the last in my family old enough to remember 9-11. The rest of his cousins were either infants or not yet born.
