There is a popular actor here in the us by the name of Steve Buscemi who was a New York City fireman before becoming an actor. Some know and some don't,but the day after this happened,he quietly went back to New York without a second thought and rejoined his squad. He worked 12 hour days digging through the rubble looking for survivors and victims. He did it without telling anyone, without broadcasting it to the world.

I was in 4th grade, and the 5th graders were across the hall and between them acting funny and the teachers distressed we knew something had happened. The principal had to come in and explain what happened to us. My mom was sent home from her state job, my dad only found out when he stopped for gas. My father in law was driving a semi when flight 93 that went down in pa and the plane went over the freeway. He saw it happen. Our world really did stop turning that day. I will always remember that day.

Yesterday I went to the last place I ever saw my Father. I sat and talked to my greatest hero. I did not always realize how important he was to me, but I sometimes feel somewhat lost. He always believed in me and told me to never stop working to become a better man- he said that was the only way to honor those people we lose. To try to live up to their memory. This racial divide so many are pushing now crushes me, we are all better than this. Instead of looking at differences, we should be focusing on how much we can do together. We only have one life, one chance to make our world a better place, we cannot just leave the work up to our heroes.

My daddy, husband and son are all veterans. I was 48 years old when they attacked us. I left work and my first thought was, Is my son going to be ok. Then I went to my parents and we all held each other and sobbed. Please everyone go to the 9-11 Memorial it is such a heartbreaking/ heart loving experience. Strangers crying and hugging strangers.

I was 23ish... Readying a flight for my final and 2nd flight attendant interview...that was my career choice. I called a friend at the airport and asked if my flight was on-time... she said "You need to turn on the TV, your flight won't make it". I turned it on... looked on in horror and froze staring at the screen. (this impacted the family of airline workers sooo hard) One of the weirdest emotions of the day for me, was when the last tower fell and Dan Rather(newscaster) went silent...all was silent...it felt like you could hear a pin drop around the entire world. Absolutely the eeriest sensation I've ever felt. A few hours later I stood in line 2 hours to give blood. My career path as a flight attendant was over. It changed the trajectory of my life. Anyway... just a quick story about it. My friend in NY went to see his friend's (who perished in the towers) wife, and when he pulled up to their home, his friends car was in the drive, a carseat in the back, and he burst into tears, knowing his friend would never return or see his baby again. There are millions of stories.

This song brings back all those emotions and pain of that horrible day...I am a paramedic and my partner is a firefighter paramedic, so this hit us very hard. I believe 343 paramedics, firemen and police that responded to save all the lives they could, were killed when the towers collapsed. We stood in the dispatch center watching as the towers fell...I had the misfortune to be partnered with the biggest jackass in the world, and he said to room in general "I don't know why you're all so upset. You don't know any of those people." We all looked at him in disbelief. Unbelievable!!! We do a job that demands compassion for people we don't know!! I think he left the company not long after that. All these years later it still deeply affects me. What a tragedy...

Elvis's song, "If I Can Dream", from his 1968 Comeback Special would be a great listen for you; for all of us! He performed it twice during the show, but the one where he's wearing a white suit is the best. It's very worthwhile to read the history of the song! I know Elvis is a joke to many people; but, seriously, give it a listen!!! Written and performed 53 years ago.

Every time I hear this I feel the same emotions I felt that morning. I was sad about what happened, but I was probably more sad and a little scared about what was going to happen because I knew we were going to have to go to war over this.

Don't ever be sorry for shedding tears. It was a tragic time period. We all still get emotional except the ones who say that Jan. 6th was worse than 9/11. It was scary and it defeated the idea that we are invincible because we're surrounded by water. We were touched that day. The really sad thing is: look how we left that war. We just walked away from it leaving people and equipment over there. That shows how different the country is from 9/11/01 to 2020.
