Seems dumb but this movie brought me out of depression in college. The line "And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?" was my motto. I felt like Chuck on that island, but I brought myself back. And now I'm graduated in a full time job. And I've found myself back on that island. I am listening to this to bring myself back again.

I first watched it when I was 9. At that time I understood what happened but couldn't comprehend the emotional ordeals that Chuck went through. When I rewatched it for the first time at 11, I cried 5 times throughout the movie. The first time I cried rewatching it, Chuck was kissing his girlfriend. When I watched that, remembering how in the end he never got to be with her even though she was the thing that kept his will to live on the island I really couldn't help myself.

I think what people don't realize is when he looks back at the island as his raft carries him away and this song plays and then when he loses Wilson and this song plays those are pivotal moments to him letting go of his former self. Wilson and the island were the last remnants of his old self...they were what he occupied his time with and where he lived just trying to survive and live another day just hoping that he could go back home to his fiance some day. But he learned that time can steal all in life no matter how strong you are and how good of character you have within you...time can steal many things from you. Apart from the swanky job and cool clothes, the family dinners with 20 family members, his fiance, his bravado as a man, Chuck Noland was a survivor stranded on a deserted island and reinvented himself into a man that appreciated the more simple things in life and had to learn to live without love.

In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass... And I've lost her all over again. I'm so sad that I don't have Kelly. But I'm so grateful that she was with me on that island. I first saw this movie 20 years ago. I nearly cried at the goodbye Wilson scene and for a long time thought it was the saddest/most powerful scene in the movie. Now 20 some years later, after rewatching, I have a different opinion. When Chuck manages to beat that final boss tide and is sailing away from the island and yells to himself that he made it and looks back at the island and the soundtrack kicks in for the first time, that moment bought me to tears because it was like finally making it past a hard/dull period in your life but looking back regardless how bad it was, you can't help but feel a bit nostalgic because for a while that was your life. The island was Chuck's home for 4 years. With the uncertainty of his future on the ocean, he knew that regardless of what happens he'll never return to that island again. And another scene was when he said in that monologue towards that end that he's sad he lost Kelly but was glad she was with him on the island. In times of loneliness we cling to whatever we can in order to gain some hope and strength to face the tides that await us. Overall I thought this movie was amazing and it will stick with me for as long as I'll live and I'm grateful that once in a while I'll come back to it hopefully as a better person.

We thought it was Bronchitis so he took medicine for it(1week) and we saw that it really wasn't working so on one day he got mad and put a hole in the wall in his bedroom. He had been suffering this for about Four Months since all the way through June 😢 and we just didn't know that eventually it was cancer in his lungs. The Doctors Tried Everything they could do to keep him alive by doing Radiation Therapy cause they couldn't do surgery (it was too big) So they tried two treatments of it and the cancer wasn't reacting to the radiation by then he wasn't capable of doing Chemotherapy. So they put a Ventilator and other things on him and had him on 💯Full life support to Inhale and exhale from the machines that were keeping him alive. Aventually we had a family Meeting on June 1st to talk about his results and further Progressive treatment if possible but eventually they said this is Imminent to his Health to get any better from this point on. Soo many people were Praying for a Miracle 🙏 that he could make it baby step after baby step. It emotionaly shocked me to hear this so blunt in a Kind of way even though they tried to sugar coat the Evaluation. I'll end it here to not keep lengthening this comment too much. I dont want to sound lame but I played this music in the background while I delivered a farewell speech for my best friend of 24 years who passed away from cancer. This piece of music is truly something. The emotions, the memories and the way your body and mind feels are all connected. They fluctuated from happiness, sadness, pain and grief. Life is definitely short. Your mind shifts knowing your best friend is gone and the memories that tie to the good times of what you remember with that person can no longer be shared by those who did not live it. RIP Tim M.

They raised me since i was a little boy and trough my teenage years. Having losing them was for sure the hardest thing in my entire life... i was 15 years old back then and felt completely lost and hopeless, now i'm 25 and still crying them... and i think it will do it till the day i die. Also i think it's a way of honor and remember them, with joy and sadness. I remember my grandpa saying he still cries thinking of his mom, and he was 86 years old. Some people mean so much to us, the least we can do is remember them and what they mean to us. Moving forward doesn't mean you won't cry no more... that's beyond grief.

This is the kind of song that sets the tone for a moment of divine intervention in a world crashing down and falling apart all around you. It's easy to lose sight of what is important in life when all seems lost and the courage to keep moving forward is like a dimly lit candle about to be blown out at the slightest brush of wind. But then you see a little break in the clouds and a tiny ray of light seeps thru. Suddenly you find yourself moving toward it, and you wonder how a broken vessel such as yourself could possibly be drawn to a little light after spending what seems like eternity in your own darkness. Suddenly you realize as you get nearer to that light your spirit is drawn to it, where it has always yearned to be. Once you find yourself out of the darkness and into the light, the weight of the sadness, anger, hurt, bitterness, confusion, and everything that landed you in the very depths of hell no longer linger in your heart and mind. It's the sweetest feeling.

Live a life with no regrets. Find true love, make kids, work and always try to be happy. Even if the wind is not at your side always try your hardest. Your mom and dad would want this. You are their hope once and forever. They will live in your soul. Life is hard. Ah, its really hard... But we must fight. There are little happieness in this world. Nothing really matters actually. All humans are lost kids trying to find their way to home. But ın reality, no one really knows where the home is. We must keep searching for future generations so that they wont suffer like us and live a beautiful life. Better than ours. Just try your best and try to find the best for yourself in life. It's significant that the movie's title is "Cast Away," not "Castaway." It's not about being a castaway. It's about casting away, letting go. Everything Hanks does and suffers is to prepare him for the moment when he will meet and love the woman on the angel-branded spread in Texas. She is his destiny, not Kelly, the Helen Hunt character, the woman he loved and lost. She, like so many people in this world, are meant to be with us only for so long. At one point, he said he was sad to lose her but glad she was there with him (in spirit) on that island. Recognizing this, he can go forward.

This is arguably the best movie Tom ever made. Mainly because unlike most movies that tell a specific story this is a story we can all relate to and learn from. In this life at some point we will experience loss. Sometimes the loss is a divorce, death, a career or physical loss and sometimes we can lose ourselves. This music is a doorway that opens up stories of this in our lives. I can tell you this from personal experience. I was a military aviator and had a wife, 3 kids and brand new house. I was sent on a mission and it was a mission that went horribly wrong. I made it back and eventually got back to my house. I soon found out that it was an empty house and my kids laughter was gone. The military knowing how the mission went sent me to a shrink. They said I had some PTSD and permanently grounded me and I soon also found myself reading divorce papers. The military being grounded from flying then told me I was getting discharged even though I still had 6 years left on my contract. They pushed me out into the street. One day I was sleeping in a brand new 4 bedroom house and another day I found myself sleeping in my van. My soon to be x brother in law returned from IRAQ and was found hanging at his house. It was this movie that reminded me to keep breathing and keep going because you never know what the tide will bring in. So that’s what I did and I started my own business and recently bought a house. If you’re in a dark place keep breathing, keep going because you never know when, what or who the tide will bring in.

When I was a kid, I watched this movie many times. The loneliness of Tom Hank's charachter and his faith always made me fell inspired. This last couple of months, I realized I'm also lost in that island. I've listened to this song so many times, it's not Tom Hanks I see in my mind now. It's now my fear, my loneliness and my faith in the tide. Like a friend once told me, sometimes in life we find ourselves lost in an island, and we never know the means we need to have to get out of it. But, that's not a thing I need to do alone. And by then, I start to see that the island it's not so desert, and that the tide had already brought me the way out a long time ago. It's time to leave. Thanks to this friend, and thanks to my high school Professor for a sweet memory in witch I can go back if I may.

I finally lost it when Wilson disappeared, and I didn’t want anyone to know tears were running down my face however, glancing back at the audience, I noticed that I was not alone with tears . Tell people that you need to forgive THAT YOU "Forgive them" Tell those YOU need to say I LOVE YOU "I LOVE YOU" DO it today It might be your last chance FOR not one of us KNOWS how much is left of our life. Example WHEN a person is laying on their deathbed and only has BUT a few breaths left on this earth. The only thing you will remember most of all is all the people you should have loved when all you did was hate them. All the people you NEEDEd to make amends with but now it's to late. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED!!!!!

There was me thinking I'd perhaps read too much into the meaning of this movie. Reading the comments here brings great comfort, I can see how deeply others were moved by it and its soundtrack. The island for me is a symbol of purgatory or the doldrums that we find ourselves in after one form of tragedy or another, and although I advocate for fighting through your pain, sometimes you have to wait for the tide to come in, you awake one day and the pain isn't gone but you feel different. The lost time that is represented by his life on the island is analogous to the grieving process we all must endure at some point. When people say of films and literature that it speaks of the human condition, I used to feel clueless as to what they meant, but now I see. There is no way certain pains can be redeemed in this life, there's losses that are just losses. What a beautiful testament this comment section is to humanity, and to the perseverance we show in the face of blunt tragedy.
