@mikeexits8 ай бұрын
If this game reminds you of acid, I'm concerned that what you've taken was not in fact acid, but instead DPH, Datura, K2, 25i-NBOMe, or all of the above. The writing, man... I've never been more disappointed by a sequel to one of my favorite games. There is so much ludonarrative dissonance that I kept making the not-good stank face every few minutes. I mean, I'm not gonna type out an essay breaking it all down (because I'd have to type A LOT just to get a solid chunk of my criticisms down but I don't feel like it's worth the effort), but even just the fact that towards the beginning, people start dying due to unexplainable phenomena, you're playing as an FBI agent, and yet she's all like "wow, this case is really exciting!" and cracking jokes (plus all the so-called "millenial writing" tropes all over the place) evokes the kind of tonal whiplash that you'd see in the average phase 4 or 5 MCU film. When Nightingale's corpse attacks and that fight ends, the cops are the only ones in the room that are potential suspects for the killed cops (which NOBODY acknowledges, let alone with the seriousness appropriate for the circumstances, but whatever I guess lmao), plus the other guys even said they heard gunshots, yet absolutely no comment about it when they see dead cops... My God man, it hurts. There were a lot of really good ideas here and some cool sensory fuckery, so it's a real shame that the execution is so lacking. ... I'm just realizing I should probably delete this comment at some point because most of the discourse around this game seems to be giving it unbridled praise, and I know how some people get when they hear criticism for a piece of media they love on the internet. I'm not attacking anybody, I'm criticizing a piece of media (which by the way, I'll repeat, is part of a franchise I have loved since when I first played the first game).

@@mikeexitscome on, nobody’s gonna attack you for making a good point, but it’s also really subjective, dialogues feels real and it’s all that matters, and it’s explained why Saga and Alex makes jokes or are excited, they’ve seen a lot and bright falls saw more stranger things than the feds. I think that’s just one way to look at the game, and there’s no wrong or right when nitpicking details

How do you have ludonarritive dissonance? You're killing monsters through the whole thing there shouldn't be remorse for killing ghosts and killer cult members
@bbbbbbb515 ай бұрын
@@mikeexitsI'm genuinely unsure if you finished the game, much less have a remote understanding of the plot at all. I've found that people who use the term "ludonarrative dissonance" typically have nothing of value to say, and this comment is no exception. Where you should have been specific, you decided to be incredibly vague instead. I can't even fathom how there's and LD in this game at all. Also, millennial writing? I'm confident you're using your own definition of that term & aren't using the one in the public lexicon. There are genuine and specific critiques to make about this game, but you left none to be discussed or dissected. You just used buzzwords and were incredibly vague. Since I brought up that there are some valid critiques, I'll drop some. The mind palace was a great idea, but was poorly executed, the game suffers from pacing issues & could do with *some* more combat, & Saga, while having some character growth and development through the arc of the story, comes off as rather one dimensional.

@@serluc5038 a big recent one for me is Wanted:Dead. It's a fun action game with a story that deals with AI. It talks about how our attachments to other people differentiate us from AI, the main character has a nice subtle arc of learning to appreciate her humanity, and it has a bit of fun corporate satire as well. This went over the heads of pretty much every reviewer, I think because they saw weird dialogue and performances in the first cutscenes and just wrote it off as bad and not worth engaging with. If the game had a reputable developer (and time in the oven, its obviously rushed/compromised) you would probably be hearing reviews say the story was pretty good.

The musical part is so early in the game all things considered but its so memorable. like yeah its cringe and forced but thats exactly what it is. Trying to figure out wtf is going on
@Demioh Жыл бұрын
All memes aside, this is one of the best games to come out this year. As a "survival horror" game it has genuinely scary sequences in it and yet somehow they managed to put in a musical number and make it one of the best experiences I've had in gaming. 10/10
@dustygearhead Жыл бұрын
The horror was putting sticky notes on a cork board. It killed the pacing. Saga was boring trash. The “gameplay” was mostly walking around picking up nonsense to pad out the length. This was my biggest disappointment of 2023.

The bulletin board gameplay was so boring and handholdy. Other than that this game tries so hard to be fun and quirky that they actually forgot to make interesting gameplay.
@Defiring Жыл бұрын
@@unleashedbread6146 You know you didn't have to actually use the board except in very rare cases, right? It just helps you if you're stuck in the main story.

Man, I hope I get to enjoy Alan Wake 2 as much as you seemed to have enjoyed when I finally get around to playing it. When was the last time we had a notable, mind-bending psychological horror game? Silent Hill 2? 3? 4?

It's the mark of a true genius that Dunkey can make a 4 minute video that is 100% entertaining yet gives me zero clue what he thinks about the game. Then again, I was transfixed for all 20 minutes of Yötön yö, yet I had no earthly idea what I was watching. Guess I'm just not smart enough for Dunkey Wake 2: Sam Ocean's Spiral.
