@FredCarpenter-vv9ld as long as you see the idea of god and yourself as separate there wont be. not meaning that as any hierarchal "god" or one seperate entity, but to see everything in the world as a part of one big thing called "god", a completely nonconceptual idea of god, like alan watts was saying. thats kind of the idea at least

I heard him say "We don't control our thoughts. We don't control our feelings." (from Not What Should Be But What Is) for over ten years before it finally sunk in how fundamental that is, given thoughts and feelings are the ONLY thing we experience. And we don't choose them. And thus, no consciousness could ever be 'in control' because we only ever HAVE thoughts (experience them as they appear in our minds) - we can't 'choose' them. And that realization changes everything. God doesn't 'choose' either, since 'to choose' is simply to express some will that you didn't choose. I want an apple. Fine, but I didn't choose to want an apple. See? No control. Still judgment (we can't escape our own conscience, even it's inaccurate sometimes), so thus still morality, still meaning. Just no control.

The moment we open our mouths and start talking about, describing, or measuring 'the universe', we're already a million miles off the point. I think that's what's so hard for modern people, because our civilization teaches us that everything, every aspect of life, is reducible to logical deduction and reason. So 'the universe' of physics and math is already a mere image, an artefact as Watts put it; a thing with causal structure and divided subjectivity and objectivity. Whatever is real isn't that; I'm not sure how we can see it, but all we have is intuition...

@cecilcharlesofficial5 ай бұрын
It's not solipsism, and 'you' didn't imagine him (even if that's how it works), since you don't choose your thoughts. Hence why pride (in all forms) is a 'sin' (it's a misunderstanding of what's happening), since we've no clue how we do things (like think), and it's not up to us if we do.

@@thinkhardt makes us question our normal ideas of 'value,' because your point is one we've all thought. The idea that we 'must go on' is fundamental to us, and yet so obviously unachievable. The universe is only really reconcilable with some sort of "Yes what's happening here is real and important, BUT it's all ok in the end." Because we don't want to find out that what's happening now is trivial. It's not. But we also watch ourselves be fallible, over and over and over and over and over again, and know deep down that if we're possibly damned for it, that well, that might be our fate. Jesus, if you read what he said, really just wanted people to believe in God and know that he has it covered. "And if you can't believe in God, watch me perform miracles and believe that I am God" because he knew that the feeling of "It's gonna be ok" is what we're both looking for, and is actually what causes us to act with love toward each other. I'm not saying religion is just pragmatism for making people act better, but that IS part of it, since we DO care about this world here and now, and how we act, and how others act.
