Vaughn, I started watching this, and I saw Alan’s video, and then your face and heard the siren. I laughed so hard. I was thinking, Vaughn glitched out in real life.😂 Then my WiFi cut out, and I had to wait to watch the rest until an hour or so ago. I am so happy that fans get this unique opportunity. I was so sad that you cannot be there. Do you have someone going to the shop with like a cellphone camera to show you the merchandise in case you want to purchase something? If not is there someone in one of the groups that would do that for you? You of all people need a least one thing since are THE Ultimate fan boy. 😀 it is nice if Alan to share this, and the shop owner seems so cool. I wish I could just be there to hang out in the cool vintage shop atmosphere with fans of all music. Thanks for being on top of it as always Vaughn!

I had some great meets with Alan backstage over the years and also had lots of comms with his mum Kathleen, who was a lovely woman and always went out of her way to write to me and send me photos of Alan in the choir and band when he was at school. For me, Alan was very much an integral part of the band in so many ways and will always be much loved and sorely missed, in particular, for his musical/production excellence, but also his charisma.
@InfraRedLight4 ай бұрын
I was always very curious about Alan’s family, because he never talked much about his parents. So it was interesting to read your comment that Alan’s mom was a lovely person. Thank you for sharing your experience! For me it is simple enough: the real Depeche Mode was of 4 members: Dave, Martin, Alan and Fletch. No Alan - no Depeche Mode. Since his departure they have been making quite good music, but they are not Depeche Mode anymore.

Vaughn is the only person who could do this well. He is more interested in the music side of things than the drama. Is there a way such an interview could be "diplomatically crowdfunded" so Mr Wilder is compensated for his time. In any case such an interview would gather many views.

I doubt AW needs to be compensated. He's just sold (or in process of) selling his big mansion, which iirc will fetch about £4m or roughly that (it's a nice gaff...). So I don't think he's short of a few bob... He will either do it or not because he wants to

With DM, he felt they looked wimpy in their early days and made an effort to help them evolve to a stronger, tougher look. @DorisDay-lw4xs his genius is production not songwriting that's Martin's job i think he was the quality control of the group he kept Martin in check that's why during his tenure you couldn't find a bad song but after he left every subsequent album would be littered with fillers and below standard crap..sometimes you get moments of genius but too little to save the album i believe after he left there was no one to speak the truth and say no to Martin so basically DM became Martin Gore's solo work

He produced another artist in 2016 I think, then seemed to disappear. I have always thought he basically retired too early from Depeche Mode. A few years later digital downloads came along and then streaming soon after, which basically meant artists earned their real money from performing live, with tickets sales and all the merchandising revenue. The stuff he did after Depeche Mode was more of a hobby or labour of love to be honest, as great as it was. It sounds like he is selling off more of his stuff to earn some extra money, which is a shame, but that is the way the music industry is nowadays. Copying is rife and artists earn peanuts from streaming. Plus I believe he said something like, ' I can work on an album for six months in the studio, only for it to be downloaded for free the next day'. Like all fans, I wish he had returned to the band, even if it was for 80's specials, where they played only that era on the old Emulators, so new fans can experience the concerts I enjoyed so much.

Alan is selling (or has now sold) his big mansion house, with his reasoning being to downsize his life he said in a recent property promotion article in the Evening Standard online in April this year. I guess it's extended to his other possessions too... If he's digitised all his music to FLAC files then he's not losing anything in the virtual realm, just the physical one. He's quite right, you can't take it with you. Hopefully he's kept a few select ones back for himself.
