From what I'm getting Sky died because Viktor didn't have shimmer. Shimmer is basically a fuel source I guess to allow the transmutation, since there was none the Hexcore took the closest thing. Also she's the kid we saw looking at Viktor on the river which makes her death waaay more painful for Viktor since she's a childhood friend.
@aeia78292 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the shimmer i think, it's Sky not being Viktor as a subject. Remember when Viktor tried experimenting with plants to no avail? It was his blood that was fed to the core initially so it only accepts him. He went to Singed (burned doctor) and Singed suggested he should use himself as the subject. The shimmer is just there to physically fortify him through the process I think similar to how it was used with Jinx, Silco, and the machine hand lady.

@@AppleBaron It has Historical precedent. Traditionaly, kids weren't allowed to roam free all day long until they became adults. They were put to work in the family business or somebody elses business for the day to keep them out of trouble, give them something to do and to learn basic skills that would serve them in adult life. In the cities this usually meant organized work houses where parents dropped them off in the morning and collected them again in the evening. After the Western cultures decided to mass educate their entire populace (not just the rich) and provide public schools for everyone, parents simply switched from dropping their kids off at the local work houses to the local schools instead, which pretty much covered the same ground (keeping them out of trouble, giving them something to do and giving them basic skills that would help in adult life). It's simply that the schools focused on working with your mind rather than your hands.......

The children working in the shimmer production facility (and not ONLY children work there, by the way; several adults are run over with a train and have guns pointed at them as the Enforcers assault the plant) serve as an indicator of misplaced priorities. It's all well and good to be horrified at Silco for using child labour, nevermind that in the time in western history analogous to what we see in Arcane, the only kids this age that weren't working in factories were either nobility, working in farms, or off soldiering. The point of it, though, isn't that these young kids work, it's WHY they work. Because that's what there is to DO in Zaun. Seven to ten years prior to this, children in Zaun were running from police harassment, digging to garbage for scraps, and going on burglary raids in the nearby wealthy district - or robbing one another for the metal scraps from such an endeavour... is that better? There are no schools, no activities, and in the surrounding abject poverty, Powder, who HAS a father figure as well as essentially a mother (Vi) is hungry enough that even she, a tech-obsessed little tinkerer, finds the true treasure of Jayce's workshop to be the sandwiches Jayce has neglected there. If not THIS - what are the children to DO? They seem reasonably well fed, and unlike the kids their age in the British coal mines of comparable historical times, THESE kids seem to have reasonable safety equipment, even. Would we rather they starve? I have the same reaction when I hear people in the west be outraged that their T-shirts or whatever are made by children in south-east Asia. Sure, we'd all prefer children weren't relegated to factory jobs, but if all we ever do is go "these evil corporations must stop hiring children" while leaving these countries in abject poverty, exploited for their natural resources and the basically free labour costs, then all that does is ensure the children starve while to an even GREATER extent having no parental supervision or presence in their new unemployed status. What this raid shows is how pointless it is for Jayce and his armoured, uniformed thugs to trudge through this factory, rounding up the people in it at gunpoint - at this point, Zaun is under the political leadership and authority of the council of Piltover, and this is all these children HAVE. This is the opportunity they are left with. They do work, they get fed. This is what happens in a suppressed colony. Jayce has the power to address this issue - OR, you know, indulge his power fantasy by going into this place full of random people just trying to get by and shooting up the place with his sci-fi weapons. The people working there clearly aren't enslaved or FORCED to work there by anything other than their circumstances, and they (rightly) don't think anything good will come from the enforcers stomping in there with guns drawn. Basically - if you want to end child labour, reform the local economy until using child labour isn't the only sensible choice left to the people there. Demanding that it just END, without being prepared to pay the differential, is worse than tolerating its existence, in my not at all humble opinion.
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
++ I agree with what you said. A few things I want to add: Probably every single child working there is the victim of a war/uprising that Vander started with the sole purpose of damaging the top, the outcome of which he didn't care about. (many of children orphaned by the death of many parents). (Insurgency not involving Silco) They are in a production facility full of orphans such as Powder, Violet, Mylo, Claggor, Ekko. And I personally would call their location safe. They are not exposed to the poisonous gas of the underground city, they all have masks in their mouths. And I think it's much better if the kids working at the shimmer facility aren't wandering around the area where Heimerdinger walked. Otherwise many orphans out there would be addicted to the shimmer and maybe even worse. At least Silco provides children with a safe job and It leaves a reason for them to support the independence cause. Silco does not harm children, on the contrary, it provides benefits for the future. Silco has never been on the attacking side, he has been on the defending side. That's the difference between Vander and Silco. Jinx herself does whatever she wants.

that seems like a lot of words to excuse Silco for using child labor in dangerous conditions and turning his own people into addicts
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
@@jamesliggins891 Silco has no reason to make its people addicted. For his cause, why make his people addicted. We hear this from Ekko's mouth, but apparently nothing. It's your fault to believe what a single character says. Shimmer is the only thing that brings wealth to the underground city, which is why its chembarons live so comfortably and oppose Silco. Silco won't gain anything by making his own people addicted. Chembarons will probably win, Silco doesn't want that. Silco doesn't live for money, he lives for the free independent city of zaun. He is not trying to destroy the underground city, to make it dependent. There is this independence case for everyone to live well in the future. Silco is not selfish. The line in which Ekko utters these words does not change anything. If you watch the Silco character for 9 episodes and can't understand what he is trying to do, that's your problem.

One thing i didn't see in the comments so i point it out. When Silco and Vander where young, kids worked in the chem mines. Silco remembered the chem barons at there meeting about that by bringing gas out of the chemmines. He told them that it was him who gave them a chance to live in better conditions and now they forgot about why they where fighting in the first place. Remember that the enforcer where wearing Masks in the undercity, even in the good area of the undercity. Silco still lives in the undercity and goes to all this places and this is why he can breath it without coughting the first minute he inhales it. (Mayby the shimmer helps here also) This is also something what Silco mentioned to Vander. Vander was caring for the lanes, minimizing the impact of the enforcer on the people there. Silco wanted all of the people of the undercity to profit not only the lanes. And yes he brought a bit of wealth to the undercity, as we where shown after the timejump and yes he gave the kids a opportunity to not work in the mines. But he also caused many casualtys with his method and the kids where now working in a shimmer factory. So here is the real dilemma, where the kids better of in the mines getting sick as victor is, or are they better of producing drugs who will cause other to suffer? Was Vander right with not helping the kids in the mines and concentrating at the "wealthier" zone of the Undercity, he didn't cause casualtys but he dind't help either this poorest of the poor. This is something the show make wonderfully, every coin has to sides and often choices are not like this is only doing good and this will one does evil. And to keep in mind this is grim dark so the bad consequnces even out of genuine willig to do good will be highlited and will often happen.

Stop justifying child labour you sick freak, literally nothing and I mean nothing could ever justify a grown ass man making child literally fight for him and getting poisoned working for him, and literally was it stated he gives them food?
@-Zikade-2 жыл бұрын
Also, contrary what some people seem to believe, child labor is not a "Silco thing". Perhaps it wasn't used to this extent before (cuz they had nothing like these factories before) BUT I firmly believe they already had forms of child labor. It kinda comes with the environment (which is true irl as well). Zaun is a very poor and very harsh place so everyone "has to carry their weight", their kids don't go to school and instead are running errands. (E.g. Vi's gang and Ekko in Act 1.) It's a very "you work (or steal) so you can eat" type of world. For some orphans this factory work might even be a blessing. These kids don't look underfed and are wearing proper gear, none of them greets Jayce and Vi like they are their saviors or something. Also note how Vi doesn't even react to there being child workers. (Even Jayce pays more attention to the "parents who will get a message their kid isn't coming home" instead of being upset of there being children in the first place.) Thus I think it's pretty clear child labor is kind of a "cultural" thing, born out of the state the Undercity is thanks to Piltover.
@sealofapproval6372 жыл бұрын
Child labour is never a 'good' thing, but I don't think child workers at the shimmer factories is evidence of Silco's evil as much as it is the reality of life in the under-city. They don't have clean air and all their wealth (with the exception of shimmer) goes to Piltover so I somehow doubt they have a school system or social services of any kind. Vi, Powder, Ekko and the rest were all working jobs in the opening episodes and that's before Silco took control of the underground, so child labour may well be the norm in the under-city. Yes child labour is horrible, but I think the blame for that lies more in Piltover having such an economic stranglehold on the underground that it makes child labour a necessity for the families that live there. Plus the workers reaction to Vi and Jayce's attack wasn't relief but fear, hence why the raised the alarm. These kids are no older than Vi and Powder were in EP1 and there the sisters were already expressing how much they hated Piltover and wanted to put one over on them - it's likely the kids in the Shimmer factory share that resentment (and I doubt the events of this episode improved their opinion of Piltover any) Hell shimmer, corrupting as it is, is the only reason the under city has experienced any kind of progress, being a revenue source they don't share with Piltover and a technology that allows some enhancements akin (albeit in a less potent form) to those Piltover hoards with it's access to hextech and everything else. I can see involvement in the Shimmer trade being seen as an act of quasi rebellion against Piltover by the denizens of the under-city, especially to it's more impressionable members, so maybe the kids share some of this sentiment and helping produce shimmer isn't just due to economic need but some political ideals as-well? Yes child labour is horrible, shimmer is horrible, the whole situation is, but I think it is fair to say that there is perhaps more going on here than: Evil man-use-kids-cos-evil-man-is-evil.

I really like it when shows make complex villains like VI. Regarding the children in the factory, it has more to do with how Piltover has treated Zaun as slave labor since the cities formation, rather than anything Slico has done. There everyone starts at the factory floor (or worse, going by what Slico showed is in ep7), you work so you can eat. It's part of the system Silco wants to get rid of by separating Zaun from Piltover.

It's ironic, considering Jinx's whole identity is built on the premise that everything she does turns to ruin, but it's kind of true of Vi too. Not only does her walking away from her sister in Act 1 lead to her becoming Jinx, but when she tells the council Silco will never negotiate, this is straight up untrue. Silco wants the Nation of Zaun, and if the council is willing to give it to him then he'll negotiate.

@@turquoise839 I hope you have seen the entire S1. She is working against and manipulating the protagonist(Jinx), while selfish and doesn't care about the consequences of her actions or who gets hurt. But with that basis, the studio was able to expand her character. She clearly believes she is doing the right thing, while also narcissistic enough to take everything that happens to her personally. We see that she care more for "the concept of Powder", the little girl that always needed her, than who her actual sister is now. At the same time it's har to blame her due to her traumatic childhood. So in s2: Will the Anger continue to grow? Will she be able to realize that Jinx made her decision or think it all about herself? Will she mature and support Caitlyn emotionally(if her mother dies)? Etc. Lot's of possibilities.

@@AlexanderForsman "Working against and manipulating the protagonist" - I don't see it that way. Of course Arcane's characters are multi-dimensional and people see them differently but I don't think of Jinx as a protagonist for example, and think Vi's intentions are pure.
