I would say that I'm the first one (gambler)to be ahead in the long term. I was hoping that you could ask him what he thinks. I fall into his hard core area. On land, I earn free cruises with my play from land based casinos. I stay ahead because I count cards. On the ship themselves I am ahead over the years because I limit myself to poker and nothing else. Most people are there to have fun but don't take it to seriously and it's not unusual for someone to be intoxicated. There have been a lot of losing sessions and bad beats (it's part of the game) but over the years I know I'm ahead. Also, no, I am not making this up. I have never won a cruise from the cruise line itself; just via promotions from my favorite Vegas casino.

While I have never sailed on a cruise ship, I did actually make a great income from gambling in casinos on the Tahoe strip. I was way ahead! My rules were make sure I was well rested, no alcohol before and during gambling. I always started with $2. Yes you read that correctly. There used to be a casino that had 10 cent chips (I believe they did away with those). I would start with $2 and and my first bet was 10 cents. So you might think I wouldn’t make much money. But you would be wrong! The dealers at the casinos I frequented all knew me. They knew the moment I ordered a drink that they didn’t have a shot a my money as I was relaxing getting ready to go to bed!

My husband won free 7 day cruise on Royal Carribean. He played the poker tournament. $100 buy in. He bought in twice ($200 total). Our next cruise is in December and he plays to win $50,000. So we won the cruise and he won his seat at the next tournament. Only thing we pay is taxes and port fees...

So I cruise on free casino cruises pretty often. Straight money wise I’m down like everyone else. But when I take into account the cruises I go on for free it gets a lot more complicated. For instance I just booked a 7 day cruise that would of cost 2400. My budget for gambling on a 7 day cruise is 1500 - 2000. Even if I lose my whole bankroll I still come out ahead since I was going to pay for the cruise anyway.

I would gamble no matter what, I love to play the slot machines. I consider it my hobby and I only play with money I can afford to lose. So it’s a benefit to get a free cruise, because I gamble enough.

9/21/19....Super Mario is such a celeb for Celebrity that he can say ANYTHING that he wants to say! He seems honest & it's HIS OPINION that "the house" beats the ppl in the casino. THAT has been well known thru out the history of gambling---with a few exceptions. My sister & her oldest son have seen/met Mario on 2 cruises & think he's wonderful! I would be the first person that would cross paths with Super Mario and tell him truthfully that, after 11-12 years, I am a long term winner. I suspect that the people he asks play slots and table games where the math catches up sooner or later. I play poker and most people don't play as well as me. Also, they are less focused and usually a bit drunk some of the time. Easy pickins' . There are bad beats and losing sessions but long term I know that I'm ahead.

I have never won big jackpots, like the slot people win, but I couldn't bear that kind of boredom, and most of them give the winnings right back. I prefer the table games. I am not a high roller, and I leave the table as soon as I'm up double my money to avoid giving it back. I never go back for more money than I brought for the evening. It's all about discipline and frugality for me. I used to keep my bankroll separate and I was definitely up, but not enough to really make a difference in my life. I am there to win, yes, but also for the cameraderie. I never drink alcohol when I play!

@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ I was speaking with a couple of Australian ladies on a cruise a couple of years ago and the idea of Mario came up and one lady was very insistent that it was sad Mario cruised all the time and didn't see his family. I was very insulted as I aspire to cruise maybe 6-8 months of the year and settle somewhere peaceful the other times. This misinformed woman said he should hang around on land in case a cousin or someone wanted to meet up for coffee. How many people are inundated day in and day out by family wanting quality time. If they are, they can schedule it on turn around days. The roughest thing about cruising solo is the constant judgement from other passengers who think their life should be my blueprint. Best to Mario for living his life. The absolute worst question I get as an early retiree is the insistence of some to know what I do "all day" as if I have to justify my existence.

9/21/19....Mario is right....Social Media would take over his whole time b/c he seems like a nice man who would want to answer all his fans' inquiries. AND he has such a great sense of humor so he could write a book of his "sea life" & all the places he's been & the ppl he's met---just any time in the future if he decides to "tell his secrets"!
