@Joe Guiffre She said she doesn't care because most of the places she has already been to and doesn't get off the ship. Its more about the experience of the ship. I'm young and have been on a few cruises and its something about being out there on the open water that is relaxing and invigorating.....and dare I say sometimes even mystical.

That's a goofy comment. I've got a relative who had a small business and who was a spendthrift and market investor. NO stupidity like real estate schemes, franchises or buying tons of whole life insurance. Just pure equity investing. Figure that he averaged about $250k a year of income, and he has "saved" his way to well into 8 figures. Plus, he's not running around pretending to be a tycoon. $250K is a lot of money to make a given year, but he was sole income and paid taxes as an individual without many business expenses. It is EASY to save your way in to prosperity in retirement. Both of my parents were teachers. They spent about half of what they made, and in retirement, they have a problem of too much money and not enough interest to spend it on anything. Slow the money down and put it in something that appreciates, not this stupid youtube sham garbage about people being a wheeler dealer without having any specific skills. People like that are just targets.

@@ElvarMasson Except the steward is not going to clean her up when she has a bathroom accident. If she really needed to be in a nursing home I doubt they would allow her on ship without a family member/caregiver. A few years ago a couple was put off a cruise ship because the wife had dementia and the husband went on an excursion and left her alone. She was found wandering the cruise ship alone and confused while he was off ship.

@Julia A Obviously she makes enough new friends from all over the world and maybe she just got tired of the old crowd. Also, who says she's not in touch with the real world? And why should she have to do something "useful" with her life? She's 88 and probably worked her tail off building a business with her husband and now she gets to enjoy life. Why the envy and why should she conform? As to cruiseships "allowing" people to live like this? Anybody is free to buy a ticket, lol

The tower, mostly populated by low income minorities was considered too much of a security risk for Theresa May. The Queen and Prince William came down to speak with survivors and families almost immediately. Security, it seems, was the last thing Queen Elizabeth cared about.

That's not a realistic number - looked like an interior room - single person interior room on smaller ships are about 6-800 a week - if you take that 175k divide by 52 comes out to over 3g a year. I just booked a suite for 4 people on harmony of the seas (worlds largest ship) for 5k for 4 PEOPLE - so they way over estimated. I'm saying at 800 a week she's at 42k a year let's say hi at 1000 a week shes at 52k a year. with good retirement plan she could easily be living off of dividends and interest. And think about it - that's ALL FOOD and entertainment for free - she LITERALLY needs to buy nothing - every week they give you soap and so on for free. this IS the way to go. plus let's not forget - loyalty incentives for cruising that much - I bet she get's huge discounts. this is so much cheaper than most retirement homes i bet.

Not really I used to work at a nursing home and DA and Cna the cost for the nursing home was over 135000 a year it's staggering. It's better to be there than in a nursing home your not respected or treated like a capable adult the threat of abuse is high and often unreported. The food is mediocre at best. And if you request something specific your considered a nuisance. I've seen other nurses and Cna individuals tell a capable adult to turn off her t.v. to go to sleep when she didn't comply they pulled the plug on it. Even for that high cost they share rooms have no privacy and the rooms are searched periodically things are often stolen. And the worst part is that nursing home was considered the best in south texas area.

Compare this to nursing home costs though. A lot of these cruise lines are really reasonable when you take everything into account. Additionally, many essentially have "frequent flyers" clubs which add up to other discounts and free trips. Me and my wife did a 14 or 15 day one transatlantic earlier this year, and it was only about $800 per ticket. Assume $1600-$2000 a month for all the food you can eat, everything taken care of? Beats a nursing home any day of the week, and honestly probably better for her health.

Nursing homes for example in Germany cost a fortune and even though social assistance and disability insurance pay a part of it they then approach the children and charge them a percentage of their income. My grandparents were charged 5400 EUR each per month. Anyway this is comparing apples to oranges because this lady is in perfect health and wouldn't need a nursing home with intensive medical care, not even an assisted living facility. Once her health fails you can't say boo how fast they will bump her off that ship. Cruise ships aren't floating hospitals.

She had been on cruises and loved them. She had trouble with arthritis and would have needed assisted living since she couldn't get around very well, grocery shop, cook, clean, that sort of thing. So, instead, she took advantage of senior citizen and frequent cruiser discounts and moved into a cruise ship. She lived in a handicap-accessible room and was quite happy for years. When I Went on a cruise I found out a lot of retirees do this. I met a man that lived on the boat. He purchased a picture with the captain and I during the captains ball. He said he loves it and it’s actually cheaper than having a home. He has everything he needs to live happily and the food is included also he is never lonely and gets to meet people he would never be able to meet if he wasn’t on the ship. And yes there is medical care on a cruise. They always have a physician on duty and ems. I think it’s heaven on Earth I always said I wanted to retire to an rv but this seems way more fun

Mark Farley. You're confusing a nursing home and senior citizen housing. A nursing home is where sick people who aren't able to care for themselves live. In senior citizens housing you can go and come as you wish. She could still end up in a nursing home if she gets to the point where she needs constant medical care. For now she's doing what she likes and I'm happy for her.

It only works as long as she is healthy. If she gets injured or seriously ill, the cruise companies kick people off the ship at the next port. They don't care where they are. Crystal Symphony did that to a older American woman who broke her arm on a shore excursion here in Nuuk, Greenland effectively abandoning her in a country totally foreign to her and a long way from home. She was in our hospital for a couple days before before the port agent managed to get her a flight home. I was working as a local shore excursion agent at the time. I was not impressed with how Crystal Symphony treated her.

I don't blame her. There's a lot of abuse going on in these nursing homes. In fact, not too far from where I live at, There's a Catholic nursing facility that nearly lost their license because they mistreated the residents there. My mother spent the last 10 years of her life in that nursing home as a stroke patient. I also worked there as a dietary aide back in the early 80's. My mother got very good care there. At that time, it was run by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Then they sold it to a profit-making company for years ago. (My mother passed away in November of 2012. Her funeral was held at the chapel there.) If this woman wants to live on a cruise ship, that's her choice.
