D'Addario Pro-Arte EJ43 Light Tension Classical Guitar Strings Review on my Taylor Academy 12e-N Nylon String Guitar
Order These Strings From Amazon: amzn.to/2ZkKZxz
With a total set tension of just 79.81 pounds these strings are the lightest tension strings available in the D'Addario Pro-Arte Classical Guitar String range and make an excellent choice for students or anyone who's just started playing guitar and hasn't built up their finger strength yet.
They're also great for anyone with a lighter touch.
They have a nice tone and an even balance across the wound basses and nylon trebles are are very easy to play

excellent video- you appear to be the only person making videos- I was very pleased to see that you have reviewed the normal tension and light tension variants of these pro-arté strings. I have always preferred lighter gauge strings on all of my guitars, electric and acoustic. But for the first time I find myself replacing the strings on my brazillian guitar, which I've never done before as I've hardly ever played it. But, a potential looming audition that would involve this guitar has brought me to finally changing the strings, and I've been a bit overwhelmed at the world of classical guitar strings! Obviously the gauge I use on electric guitar means nothing in the classical world. I found that the pro-arté series appear to be widely accepted as a gold standard, but there are so many variants within the series (bronze wound, steel wound, nylon, black nylon, carbon multifillament, and more!) and I've been awfully tempted by all of these different fancy sets of strings, I had no idea there were so many to chose from! It's hard enough for me to settle on what tension I'm going to buy! But like I said I've usually been accustomed to lighter strings, but of course classical guitar strings tend to feel lighter than say folk guitar strings so I've been very hesitent about whether to stick to the normal tension, or take a bet and go for the light tension ones. Thanks to both of your reviews on the light and normal pro arté strings, I think I'm going to settle for the light ones, given you said they aren't *that much* lighter than the normal tension ones, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I don't want to end up with the normal ones and discover that my soft-touch hands aren't accustomed to them, nor get the light ones and discover that they're like playing horse hair, but it seems like the light ones are exactly what I might be looking for! Blimey that was a long comment, well thanks for your videos anyway, very pleased to have come across them! ...I think I may order both a pack of both normal and light, juuuust to be on the safe side.... I would hate to string my wonderful brazilian guitar and play it for the first time in ages only to be put off by too much/too little tension! Thanks again mate!

You're welcome Korasi I'm glad you found the reviews useful If I was you I would try both the light and the normal gauge strings out and see which you prefer the feel and sound of. Strings, just like guitars are a very personal thing and every guitar reacts and plays differently 😊

I still think your review is important and well done. Usually changing strings on a guitar is like a water melon like, hard to pick the set that suit a guitar and your review helps a lot thank you for that.

I'm glad somebody is talking about nylon strings. I used to go hard tension all the time when I was like 17-24 years old. Gauge 11 and 12 for electric. Then I mangled my hand(I'm fine now). Now I play lighter strings 9 standard and 10 whole step down. On classical however I play normal tension which is easy enough to play. I was thinking about light tension but from what I remember, they were too soft and too difficult on the right hand so I'm kinda hesitant. Thank you for the great content.

Hi Rom, glad to hear your hand is okay now. You do lose a little bit of volume with the D'addario Pro-Arte EJ43 Light Tension Strings but it's hardly noticeable on a good quality classical guitar and they are really easy to play if you have a lighter touch. I wouldn't recommend them for flamenco or hard strumming but they are fine for fingerstyle and classical Let me know how you get on with them 👍

Thank you for the reply. Very much appreciated. My hand's much better. I can do boxing/muay thai no problem. I agree that volume isn't much of an issue. But my right had to adjust. I need to get used to it, I don't play flamenco but some modern pieces on classical requires you to play harder. Sforzando for example. I fell in love with lighter gauge specially on electric. The clarity is unbeatable and it still sounds big. I like to use as light as I can get away with without it being too flimsy. I'm not switching back to heavy gauges just because I don't wanna lose the clarity. I'll just have to learn how not to fret too hard when I'm really into it haha.

For several years i have had 13 set steel strings on my minitaylor and it really needs some force, but on my classical guitars i some reason like light tension much more. I just bought new classical Taylor and might change to these strings right away. On my main guitar D'Angelico i use 11 or 12 flatwounds and cant even play rpundwounds any more.

Hi Jarri. Yes I prefer a lighter gauge strings on my Taylor Academy 12e-N Nylon String Guitar but I use 12-53 Phosphor Bronze on my parlor acoustic guitar. The shorter scale of the parlor makes the light gauge strings feel like extra lights 👍

My experience with these strings was not good. They sounded very good for 12 days and then started to get dull. By the 15th day they were dead and unpleasant sounding. Just my 2 cents.

Hello Alan, I dont know much about classical guitar strings, I mainly play electric and acoustic with metal strings. I have a question, what kind of strings do I need to tune higher than E standard? Is it low tension strings? What do uou recommend?
@AlanRoyHocking
@AlanRoyHocking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rose, I wouldn't recommend tuning a classical guitar higher than standard E tuning because they are very delicate instruments built with much lighter bracing and designed to vibrate/resonate with low tension nylon strings. Tuning them higher will put extra tension on the neck and bridge and could end up breaking the whole guitar.

Hi, A lot of flamenco players use the D'Addario EJ45 nylon strings but if you want more volume and a better attack I would advise going for harder tension strings like the D'Addario EJ46 or even try Carbon Strings like the D'Addario EJ46FF I did a review of them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnvImn2uiceHldU Hope that helps 😊

@@AlanRoyHocking I will Alan. I find that the hard tension strings are just difficult to play. I had an inexpensive Yamaha guitar that came with low tension strings and I always found that guitar very easy to play. But I sold that guitar and moved up to the Cordoba C5 which comes with hard tension strings. I'm going to put these EJ43s on the C5. I'll let you know how they feel and sound.
