That wire fish could be a lot easier if you take the plate off the outlet and the pry with a flat blade screwdriver on the stud side of the outlet box pushing against the box. This action pushes the box in to the wall allowing greater access than that one inch square hole. The more you push the box in to the wall the greater the access. I usually pry the box back until it releases from stud. Then to put it back you’ll have to push the nails in the ears of the box out or back enough to allow for a flush to stud install. To hold the box in place just screw two drywall screws through the inside of box at the stud side and in to wood of stud Now that is if you have a nail on plastic box to work with. GOT IT?

We appreciate the suggestion John and we certainly understand there's better ways to fish a wire. I'm sure your suggestions will be helpful for others that watch this video. Just to be sure I understand your explanation, you're simply routing the transformer wire between the outlet box and the drywall, using the existing hole for the outlet box?
@johnwagner55146 жыл бұрын
Sterling, to answer your question to my reply. Basically your moving the outlet out of the way, giving you greater access to the wall cavity in which your fishing. And actually you wouldn’t need to cut the little hole behind transformer. You can just route the wire out of the bottom of the existing outlet box hole. I gotta hand it to you though for getting that wire around the box to the hole. Great fish!
@SterlingDonnelly6 жыл бұрын
Ah, I understand now. You were just describing how to move the box temporarily so it's not as tricky to get it around the box. It would also prevent the need for the hole we made (which is hidden by the transformer but may be an issue if the system is ever moved in the future). Thanks again for the comments!

Do you have a video on how to program the Lyric keypad?

I have a Honeywell Destiny system and would like to upgrade. However, I do not want to use the wireless contact as I had the hidden contacts installed during a renovation. Is there a panel that I can upgrade to that will allow the integration of the wired sensors and wired QSee cameras for monitoring over my WiFi network? Thanks for your help.

Hey Telesforo, We can not answer that question. For that info, you could reach out to your local Fire Marshal and they would have information regarding Fire/Life Safety regulations in your area.

Hi, I have an old Lynx 5100. Thinking of upgrading. Does this unit support web server / web service (user can access the panel via web like the Tuxedo touch) within the internal network?
@DKAlarmgridSupport4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Yes the Lyric panel has an app that will work on a local network. It is called "My Home Controller". It is available on iOS and Android from the respective app stores. Check out our Setup doc @ www.alarmgrid.com/documents/my-home-controller-app-mobile-device-setup-and-use.

I'd uses a solid fiberglass push rod , remove the electric outlet cover , cut a vertical slot next to the wall box " the plate edge will cover it when reinstalled " and this will allow a nice angle to push it up the wall

How can I extend the sound the door bell makes
@ricks.99843 жыл бұрын
I'm certainly no expert but I would install the controller near the garage entry door and fish the low voltage wire up and over to the garage. Add an outlet straight up from an existing outlet in the garage near the ceiling. This way the brick is not anywhere near where it can be knocked out of the outlet by accident and it is less unsightly. Also, wouldn't yanking the power supply off the wall be the first thing a knowledgeable thief would do? I realize this approach requires access to the ceiling above. If I couldn't do it this way I would hire an electrician to put an outlet in another spot that is out of the way and preferably high on the wall. Perhaps a closet on the small portion of wall above the door where the outlet and brick will not be visible.

Hey Alarm grid, what's your thoughts on the 2GIG system's?? Our company is using them now.
@brasha783 жыл бұрын
Your setup on the junction box makes me want to wire a new a junction box from the existing one and essentially hide it behind the wall and plug the transformer into it and bury it behind the wall with a patch at the end . I may fasten the transformer down the same with the center screw, but this way no one can ever disconnect the power. Yes it may be a cut out of drywall about 12” tall and 18” wide but that way I cross over the adjacent studs and have enough vert to work on the box. Screw the box to the stud, wire like a regular outlet with trim plate and plug in and patch, texture, paint. Also we’re you making this video for people that have never touched a tool or done anything ever in their lives. I hung around thinking I’d get some brand specific install advice, but this was you over explaining how to do each task. Anyone doing this doesn’t need to be told how to curl wires to go around the terminal, or lefty loosey - righty tighty. Ultimately no disrespect you created a good video, but dam - retitle the thing as FOR THE NOVICE - OR - NEVER EVER INSTALLED ANYTHING - because I can tell you 90% of people visiting this are looking for tips on the unit specific install - not a beginner course on how to do stuff like this.

Hey Sterling! Have you guys found a more elegant solution than the gigantic power bricks? Does anyone make an in Wall one?
@dylanalarm_grid10386 жыл бұрын
No in-wall transformers available, I believe that may be a fire hazard. There are recessed receptacles that give the appearance of a hidden transformer however.

@@dylanalarm_grid1038 It would be great if they could come up with a POE (Power Over Ethernet) option. Plug it straight into a POE switch and no visible power supply for a clean install, perfect.

what type of control can I use without a contract and access to it throug my cellphone or computer?
@SterlingDonnelly8 жыл бұрын
You can use the Lyric system without a contract to control it but there is a monthly fee involved. We have plans as low as $10/month (Self Bronze) online at www.alarmgrid.com/monitoring.
@langh.52835 жыл бұрын
Confusing! On the transformer the positive on the right n negative on left but when you turn the transformer around to plug in the power outlet it is the positive on left n negative on right. On the power outlet the hot is on the right, neutral on left if the ground plugs face down, so unless on the transformer the wires from the plugs to the terminals are across, if not then the positive on transformer plugs into neutral hole on the power outlet and negative plug on transformer goes to hot wire on power outlet.

The Lyric will work with WIFI connectivity only (no cellular needed) but you do have to have some level of service for remote control and alerts. We offer plans with no contract required as low as $10/month online at www.alarmgrid.com/monitoring

Seriously, it’s the most over explained video. Ever! I watched most of it thinking some ground breaking / Honeywell specific info pertinent to the unit would come out and surprise, nothing new. I have this guy telling me left loosey righty tighty, and shit like how yo curl the wire. Gigantic waste of time. Now for someone that hasn’t really ever picked up a tool, I could see the importance of a video like this. It should be titled differently. Comically - Honeywell install for morons- or -Honeywell install for the complete novice.

You would think they'd make this shit wireless so you could just change batteries once a year or something rather than put holes in your walls. 10 years from now.... a guy will go to change this thing out with newer tech and there'll be 2 shitty holes in the wall that likely won't be the same size as the newer system.
@SterlingDonnelly5 жыл бұрын
There is no professional security system that's completely battery operated. If you're able to find one or design one yourself, we'd love to hear about it! With that said, there are cleaner ways to wire the panel to the transformer so the hole in the wall is less obtrusive. John Wagner's comments below detail one alternate way. Also, you can desk mount the system using this alternate part - www.alarmgrid.com/products/lcp500-dk so that you don't have to put any holes or fish any wire.

@@truthofall6311 he literally cut a hole below an electrical outlet and put a low voltage cable there.... I'm pretty sure that's not legal according to the national electrical code. @cody54954 жыл бұрын
The professional way to power that panel would be to install a dedicated 24/12v power supply with a battery backup and dedicated circuit from the mains ..maybe in the garage or attic Not putting a crappy little transformer on an electrical outlet with a hole below it.
