I live in Seattle and generally always take Alaska. I have never had a bad flight on Alaska. I have flown them many times to MSP in both first class, coach and premium. There is a reason why they have won the JD powers 1st place customer service for the last 11 years. Just fly them and you will see. Also, I think they have the best domestic frequent flyer program. Get their credit card if you can and the miles add up so fast, that I’m able to enjoy first class or premium on miles earned from just everyday purchases.

Probably the reason why first class/priority passengers board first is because it gives them a sense of “priority” over the other passengers. That, and it could be so they have access to more overhead bin space, and more time to settle in before the flight
@keyonastring
@keyonastring 4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much just this. Especially in the US where even people still on the standby list crowd the gate, it is nice to get out of the crowd and take a seat, have room in the overhead, and get a predepature drink.

I know it’ll take a while to do this but I’ve never even have had a bad flight on the dash 8’s or the few times I’ve been on the new E175. I fly exclusively from Phoenix to anchorage non-stop on Alaska whenever possible and flown 119000 miles so far just this year and really like the mileage plan. I’m thinking it’s the best program in the states. I’ll really be glad when they go back to being an “ all Boeing aircraft company”. My phrase is’ if it’s not Boeing I’m not going. Lol. I was invited to fly on the painted livery aircraft in support of us veterans and current service members. I’d share photos however not sure how to do that. Good news! a) All Alaska flights are going to leave from T2 starting early next year. b) SAN is getting a Priority Pass lounge (primeclass based on the stuff I saw in the airport authority meeting minutes). c) T1 will eventually be torn down and rebuilt, hopefully opening some time in the early 2020s but we'll see. In the meantime though, as someone who lives in San Diego I definitely prefer flying out of T2 if at all possible.

San Diego is my home airport. Terminal 1 is way too small considering the number of flights that depart from there daily (mostly Southwest). Good news on two fronts. A. Alaska has moved their terminal 1 gates to terminal 2. B. Terminal 1 is getting a billion dollar renovation and expansion. One note on Alaska Airlines: these guys rock. I take them as often as I can because they have old school customer service. Cheers.

I've never had anything but great service from Alaska. And even though they don't have an formal alliance they do have partnerships with many international and domestic carriers to build miles/status such as Icelandair, American Airlines, and British Airways which I've used to build my Alaska status. Since I live on the west coast of the US, Alaska pretty much takes me to wherever I need to be.

My opinion on your question within the video is that for me, early boarding wouldn't be a thing I was that interested in, even if it came as part of a booking. I have to use this service because of a disability so I always find myself onboard first, but as i stated, it wouldn't be something I went for if I had that choice! I am a gold member on star alliance because I fly very often. Having priority boarding for economy and economy+ can be very useful sometimes because you don’t have to worry about having space for your hand luggage in the overhead compartments, they are always empty. You are also not rushing to get into your seat so that other passengers can find their seat. It has many benefits.

It’s going through a restructuring plan at the moment and should be fine. You can expect thick seats with not very good legroom, a nice inflight magazine and very decent food options. The landings with Air Malta are always fantastic, the pilots are very well trained. Enjoy!

Having only flown American internally (being a Qantas code share) I found that cabins where passengers walk through first class the first class overhead lockers get filled by economy passengers and the crew don't seem to care, so I make sure I am ready to go as soon as they start boarding. On a flight from LA to Vegas my hand luggage had to go in the hold because the lockers were full and seated in 1A I was not allowed to have my bag against the bulkhead. Another great video Paul!

I performed maintenance services for Alaska since they were Wien Air Alaska back in the 80's. (APU O/H). Their equipment (appliances) always came back in much better condition than most others. I guess that shows in their airborne services also.

Lovely clear weather! With winter knocking on our mutual doors these sunny images are somewhat alien feeling. I can't quite catch the name of that KZbin channel you're watching. What was that again? I do like how the flight attendant is squatting down, makes it friendlier and less formal. I can tell by your expression that she's friendly. Nice flight. I'd gladly trade the Lounge for this kind of experience. 9:26: Oops "we'll edit that out" ;).

Clearly when you look out the window starting at 8:20 you can see green leaves and green grass, so this must have been taken in summer or very early fall, also looks like a storm had just past the airport, lots of puddles on tarmac.

Paul, posting almost a year late but I just found your channel and subscribed. I flew Alaska once and it was a surprise because I flew from Charleston AFB, SC to Howard AFB, Panama and back for Jungle School prior to my deployment to Vietnam. We flew on a B727 and imagine my amazement to see the aircraft on the tarmac and my further surprise when we got on it. Alaska still has a daily flight from Seattle to Charleston. Keep up the good work and God bless.

I recently flew Seattle to Anchorage to Fairbanks and back with Alaskan and also could not fault their service, seats and food in first. You could have whatever you wanted as pre-Departure drinks, including Starbucks coffee! They do have some alliances with carriers e.g. Qantas, which is my FF programme, but here you can earn points and not status credits. Great video, loved the 1-2 configuration on the Embraer , especially as a solo traveller.

Times have changed. In the early 70's, I worked at a radio/TV station in Fairbanks. When it came to Alaska Airlines, the common slogan was this: Alaska Airlines: 3 frights a day. While in Fairbanks, the SST was there for cold weather testing. That was 1972.

Shame that the fedex planes at 4:34 weren't any of the fleet's DC-10 or MD-11s; there's still lots flying but I've not yet been lucky to see any at the airport and take a picture of one. Brings back fond memories of seeing trijets at airports in the 90s and early 2000s before they went by the wayside.

There is one thing you need to realize... There is NO ONE that dislikes beer out there. What does that mean? Well it means that you just haven't found your beer type or variant out there yet, but it exists! So happy hunting, and you are on the right track, small breweries are the ones who will most likely have your favourite. The bad news? Better hope that brewery doesn't disappear though.

Frequent alaska flyer, crew always goes above and beyond to make your flight comfortable. Good food options even in economy, good legroom and AMAZING rewards program! Once another passenger grabbed my luggage and even though it was not the airlines fault, i got a $50 petes coffee voucher. I dint even have to ask! Other than that my experiences have been perfect on Alaska Air!

Embraer flights never seem to disappoint. I like them being just that little bit smaller then their competitors like the 737 and a318-319-320. Two by two seat configuration in economy is a big plus in my opinion and they feel just quicker and more agile for some reason. Also with having less seats the inflight catering is coming to you quick, no matter where you're seated. Although I've never flown an Embraer first class, but I totally agree with your positive opinion and experience on this aircraft! May I suggest to try the KLM Embraer 190-std one day, I think you won't be disappointed ;) Looking forward to the next one already Paul!

I do not have occasion to fly internationally so I cannot claim any allegiance to international carriers. However, when traveling in the USA, I will only fly Alaska Airlines when my destination allows. I have never been dissatisfied by their customer service. To me, one of their trademarks is their food. Even in coach (for a price) they have some tasty options. The flight attendants are also very professional. Admittedly, I have been a frequent flyer with them for well over 20 years so I am a bit biased.

I took the Texas Eagle from Chicago to L.A,there is so much open space and it takes so long to get through,night comes before you can see anything,i missed seeing so many places due to napping and night time,so it's not that much of a scenic opportunity,maybe getting a sleeper cabin would make it better. but night time is till night time,and vast open spaces still appear the most.

Alaska used to share miles with both American and Delta. For some reason that ended at the beginning of this year. For me this was a shame, since accumulating AA miles on Alaska increased the options I had for flying to Seattle from the east coast significantly. As you point out, their catering is better than any other airline in the US.

Hi Paul, absolutely agree with Alaska being one of the best US Airlines! Having lived in the sates for 18yrs, I’ve been an elite frequent flyer on Alaska, Delta and United Airlines - Alaska overall is still the best. Only downside, their frequent flyer program isn’t broad reaching, able to use with multiple airlines for international flights. To your comment on “Priority Boarding” , in the states, during peak hours/periods, boarding can be a nightmare. There are more and more folks with carry-on luggage and so so many times, people seated in the mid to back of the aircraft will store their bags in the overhead lockers, in the front and sometimes in first. This doesn’t happen all the time, but has been a consistent observation over the past 10yrs. Great video mate, look forward to your next posting on your insightful Flight and Train reports👍

Paul, When you fly first class and board first, it allows you to store you bags in an empty overhead bin, get settled into your seat and enjoy a beverage. You may notice on some US carriers that the cabin staff is not very efficient at making economy passengers stow their bags in the economy section. If first class passengers were to board last, they would find no overhead storage at all. I am glad you had a lovely flight on Alaska flown by Sky West. Most US carriers don't do anything to manage the food or drink on their non-owned regional carriers so you are lucky to get anything to eat in first class. You and Alaska did well.
