Alaska - Buying Land, Homes and Inflation!

What an eye opener for me. I don't see how young families are making it!
I need more room, land wise. We want certain features in a home, and we just can't find it. It's not so much about the square footage, but more so that it has a good layout.
Are we going to have to build our own? Hire a contractor?
Crime and taxes are pushing us away from large populations; however, we both have specialty doctors that we have to "see". As I see my 70's closing in on me, faster than I want, it's time to start enjoying life.

Thank You Scott. I have been putting out financial type of videos on the weekend, and more outdoorsy stuff on Wednesday. I have been slowing down from my weekly pace, with fixing up this old house, and trying to purchase another. Kinda busy lately. Thanks for the sub!

I've resigned myself to not being able to afford a house until I can build it myself with cash. Even though my salary is decent now, I've been priced out almost everywhere since I didn't make much until the last few years so have no current house with equity to leverage, no down payment (unless I raid my IRAs), and these high interest rates have wiped at least 100k off my potential purchasing power. I also kind of dislike the idea of owing that much money to a bank for the next 30 years of my life. I laughed when you rolled up to Deception Shores, that place is a swamp and the name is 100% fitting. 16:35 that truck camper is my plan right now

I was talking to my son, and was like how do you afford that? (I guess at the time, I was in the same boat) I just can't see myself going into big time debt, for something nicer. What's that old saying? Buyer beware!

$350 a month in taxes is $350 too much. Wow. Everything has gotten well past out of hand with the costs and all taxes in this country. I'm sorry you are having to look for a different home because of all this.

Currently I pay $1300 for house. $500 of it is mortgage, $800 is taxes and insurance. 10 acres in the middle of nowhere, is running about $228.00 in taxes for a year. Now with that said, buying the toys to get to it, and maintaining it....that's another story. Yeah it's a pickle. Maybe Ed McMahon has an answer?
