Great airplane. I've logged many hours across all 3 seats with three different carriers in the old Sky Truck 6 throughout the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. Flown both swing tails, N434TA (Zantop) and N867TA (Trans Air Link). I still have microfiche maintenance binders in one flight case, several maintenance and flight ops manuals along with flight crew check lists in another, and a case of original like new Bendix ignition analyzer wave form for R-2800 low tension hand books. Here's one, Nashville (BNA) banned us for pissing 4 spots of black crude on their fresh concrete, that was a classic :) .

I flew for a few memorable eternal minutes on the right Seat of a DC - 6 B (cargo doors) over the treacherous Andes Mountains just over uspallata pass ( the highest point of the Andes Mountains) south side of the aconcagua Mountain, 7000 asl and i can asure you despite the majestic view, the fiercely winds aloft make one feel this robust strong build plane as you were seating on a piper cub.! menacing rocks at both side of the narrow uspallata valley !!

Thanks! Love this plane. I have several in FSX and fly it almost exclusively.

The old Douglas prop airlines were interesting to say the least. I flew on an DC-4 (C-54?) from Rhein-Main AFB to Torrejon AFB (Madrid) back in 1970, and it was quite an experience. Due to heat rising from the runway, the pilot had a bit of a time getting the plane to settle on the runway. Additionally, i got to see a Spanish Air Force Ju-52 m3, taxiing on one of the pathways to one of the runways. What a treat!

Good video, only bad thing is that we couldn't enjoy the beautiful rumble of those engines.

+Josh Rawlin You're indeed a very fortunate man. In the meantime keep that camera rolling and especially those mics clean so we, the less fortunate, can enjoy those exciting sound waves coming from the great, magnificent DC-6 :)

Listen carefully between 1:29 and 1:49 to hear some of the classic Pratt and Whitney piston engine "misses."

All I could hear was the sound of static. Audio wasn't very good on this.

It's a shame that the modern technology cameras seem unable to capture movement in real time. Watching those props turning in slow motion is just not right. Or........maybe it's the camera user who doesn't know how to use it properly ?? The shutter speed needs to be set right !!
@keithbrescia98936 жыл бұрын
The imaging sensors in today's cameras are so fabulously sensitive that exposure times of well under 1/1000 sec. get the job done in daylight. It appears that for consumer video cameras the manufacturers feel that there is not enough demand for such things as deliberately blurring the props to justify the extra cost of optional manual settings of aperture and shutter speed in an otherwise fully automatic camera. I tested my Sony camera with a fan running about the same RPM as aircraft props, and it automatically lengthened the exposure and blurred the fan in deep twilight. In full daylight it stopped the fan cold on each frame, and the apparent slow rotation was a result of the fan's being out of sync with the camera. In daylight it would be possible to slow down the shutter by shooting through a neutral density filter.

Isn't it a pity that the so called modern technology is unable to capture the props turning at true speed.It looks so unreal. My 19 yr old video camera would do a much better job.

Josh - would you be interested in sharing your video? We are getting ready to fly N151 to Norway as we hand off the aircraft to The Museum of Aviation History at Sola Airport in Stavanger. I am putting together a presentation to hand off along with the airplane and would be interested in including this video. I can also be contacted at kwing@evertsair.com. Ralph Pettersen included a short note in his site www.proplinerinfoexchange.com/1-bigdouglas_news.htm. Thank you for your consideration.
