Alaska Cruise 2023 - Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska - Sapphire Princess

This video shows our day in the Glacier Bay National Park on our Alaska Cruise in May 2023 onboard the Sapphire Princess cruise ship.
When you visit Glacier Bay on a cruise ship you don't generally get off the ship (apart from some very specific, and probably very expensive, personal excursions). Instead of stopping in a port, you spend the day cruising around in the park and viewing the amazing scenery.
This was our first visit to Glacier Bay, so didn't quite know what to expect, but we had such a fantastic day and the scenery was just incredible. In fact, despite being out on deck for most of the day, unusually for me, I didn't actually take that much video or even photos. It was one of those times where I just felt like taking everything in and seeing as much as possible, rather than only seeing it through a viewfinder. I also think that it's very difficult to really capture the beauty of the whole things on video or camera, so you will have to make do with our video and use your imagination.... Or better still plan your own cruise to this wonderful location! :)
When you hear about how much the glaciers have receded over the last few years, it's genuinely scary, but despite this, seeing a glacier calving is another incredible sight and we were sooo lucky seeing a total of FOUR really large calvings. Unfortunately, I didn't catch all of these myself on camera, so part of our video includes a shot from a very nice lady who shared her capture with me.
One of the calvings was so big that the resulting wave actually rocked the cruise ship quite considerably. Amazing stuff to experience!!
We were also really lucky with the weather as it was mostly sunny, so we got a nice suntan while we were watching the incredible scenery :)
