I got a 32 pound Ling cod off Saturna Island BC, tied off some kelp, using a small rock cod for bait. Caught many with that large lead head jig with the white rubber tail, I put a solid wire stainless 6" leader on the jig because of sharp Ling teeth

as far as its concerned for counting your limit up here all brown rock fish are in the same category although it's cool to see all the variety of browns. yellow eye is counted separate. all are delicious but the yellow eye is the best rock fish. I can't decide if links or yellow eye are better.

Okay, the sheep on the rocks were Mountain Goats. The black bass you caught are called Black Rockfish. The one you could not identify was a Tiger Rockfish. Please refer to the booklet "Fish of the North Pacific:". All the Rockfish are venomous and have scorpion in their Latin names. And Lingcod are not cod but actually from the Greenling family. If you ever get stuck with any of the many spikes located on the Rockfishes, it is going to hurt real bad for a very long time, Just saying. You guys look like you were having a real good time!

I'll try anything if the fish aren't biting but sometimes the fish just aren't going to bite no matter what Brine is soaked your squid and herring in. But what works is WD-40. Put the little red straw in there so you can fill the hearing or squid or whatever you have up what's 5/8 seconds worth of WD-40 and if there's a fish within a hundred miles it'll sniff right up and eat your bait. But if you can just get where the fish are... We would fish the Bandon High spot. This was out from Bandon and a bit south of Charleston by Coos Bay. it took a while to get out there and you are fishing in about 500 feet of water but if you could get your bait on the bottom you would always get fish. Plenty of hundred pounders too. But generally in the 60 to 70 pound range is what we went home with. I think it is illegal to highgrade in Oregon so I'm not going to tell you I did that. But I never had to use any expensive brine and I never came back once without a limit. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
