I paid nearly $15 at Walmart back in 2021 (BBD August 2022). I haven't used it because I intended for it to be longer-term storage. Like you, I stored it in a cool, dry, dark area. I also, during that time, stocked up on Gossner Farms milk from Dollar Tree and used that 2 years past its BBD of 2021. OK, I opened the Nido, and the "whoosh" when opening the pull top startled me LOL . But it looks and tastes great (although I'm sure it will taste better cold). I will put it in half-gallon jars and keep some in the kitchen. I never thought of using it with the Knorr sides! I will definitely start using it more instead of buying milk that goes bad before the BBD.

@@47retta No, it was regular temperatures but we do have the AC on during the hot season as I live in Las Vegas. Like anything we store going through the "look, smell and taste" tests happens with all the foods I store. In 2016 I helped my daughter can chicken but when she moved to Florida from Arizona she did not want to take it with her. Well, my husband mistakenly placed it on a garage shelf and it was there for over 3 years with temperatures over 115 degrees in the garage. He brought them indoors in 2023 and I opened a jar, completed all my tests, and enjoyed a great chicken salad sandwiches!

I like to have my coffee with 1/2 c coffee and 1/2 cold milk but Nido does not have a 100% taste of real milk but in a grid down situation I would be able to overlook that, lol! Adding more flavoring (I almost always use the Great Value-Walmart brand of Hazelnut coffee so I have many bags of that stored) the Mexican chocolate in powder form like Abuelita or Ibarra and that does a good enough job masking that taste. I have plenty of ways to chill the milk also.

I’ve opened my last can and it was close to 2 years expired. It was perfectly fine. No off odors or tastes. I put the whole can in an airtight container and it stays fresh.

I kept mine in my kitchen unopened 2 years past best by date. Now, after opening I'm going on 2 years, and it's still good. Still left in can, by the stove for cooking. Just a few uses left. Not recommending people do it like I use it but it's working for me.

I can't tell you how appropriate this video is. Yesterday I was in Sam's Club where I usually buy the giant container of Nido Fortificada. It lasts me about a year. I don't drink milk but I do use it for many things including making bread. Unfortunately, the best buy date stamped on the label was a mere 90 days in the future. No way to manage that because I still have half of another container. This is a gigantic container weighing in at 4.85 pounds for $23.48 here in Kansas City, Missouri. I was thinking it might be wise to stock up on another one ... just in case. After watching you I feel much better getting it although I wish the date was a farther out. I do like the flavor of this milk and the best part is not having liquid milk spoil before you can use it all. I would buy a half gallon and many times it would go bad before I use it up. This has been a real cost saver and it doesn't have any weird aftertaste.

Hi. Thank you for this important information as always. These powdered milks can be pricey and the thought that you might have to throw out an unused whole can because you didn’t use by the expiration date, make you think twice before you buy it. I can definitely say that I have used Nido powdered milk 8 months after the best before date and it’s just as perfect and delicious as new. It’s good to know that it last much, much longer.

Used Nido for years and never have had a problem. Just because it says an expiration date does not mean it instantly goes bad after that date, it means it will deteriorate slowly over time. Trying to explain that to my adult kids is like talking to a wall. 😅😅

I'm with you on the taste and "mouth feel" -- it's the best powdered milk I've found so far!! I've had a can of Nido opened for almost a year and it has not yet gone bad. When I peel the foil lid open, I only open it about 1/3 of the way and I fold it back down before putting the plastic lid back on. I just do that so I have the lid available to scrape/level the measuring cup. But perhaps it helps by absolutely shutting the light out when stored in the pantry? Heck if I know, but I just know mine lasts a long time after opening.

I am so glad I caught this video today! I had a big can of the Nido Fortificada that had expired two years ago. I was going to throw it away, but so glad I didn't. Today I opened it (looked and smelled fine!) and used lots of it for my stockpot full of potato and brocolli soup. I vacuumed sealed the remaining in glass canning jars. I vacuum seal glass jars of this powder once I open a fresh can. I use it daily as coffee creamer - currently using a jar which was vacuum sealed 8/22 with powder that had a Best Buy date of 5/23 - no problem with quality here in 9/24. Thank you for highlighting this milk. IMO everyone should have this in their pantry. Nutritious, lasts a long long time, easy to use, and mostly, it’s got a great taste!

@@AlaskaGranny it's because it was expired and they legally can't offer expired formula to babies; anytime they have any expired product they leave it for anyone to take. Also I noticed on the Similac can it says 'made in Europe', and 'Made for Singapore', so very likely it was imported for the very shortage you mentioned. I believe it's shelve life is two years.

I bought 2 cans on clearance for $.87 each. They were various types, the one remaining is pre-school 3+, they were near best by date. November 2023 date on the one I am using, 1.76 lb size. All 3 types I tried tasted good. All types were used well past date. No repackaging on any.

You can freeze it after opening beyond 3 years, so you get the full container use! Canning jars work well!

I love NIDO, I put 1/4 cup NIDO in freezer bag plus 1 cup cereal, add water, shake, instant milk & cereal. Makes excellent biscuits & pancakes, 1/4 cup self rising flour plus 1/8 cup NIDO, add 1/8 cup water for 1 biscuit or add more water for pancake batter. Use it for protein shakes, 1 cup water, 1/4 cup Protein Powder, 1/4 cup NIDO, 3 TBSP unsweetened Cocoa powder, 3 packets stevia, about 12 frozen strawberries (to thicken), blend in my nurtibullet blender.

Food lasts until it goes bad. Dates are a reference. Nido dry milk contains full fat that other dry milk (usually skiml doesn't. It's the fat that can go rancid. It is similar to how peanut butter or cooking oil can go rancid.

@@suzybailey-koubti8342 we make fire starters with it. Roll up paper towel strips, or use a cotton ball, dip in oil & either wax them or roll in foil pouches. We haven't tried a candle but have more need for starters than lighting. Old oil also works well in a fruit fly trap. Those little red plastic traps with lots of holes on top come with a powder you mix up to attract fruit flies. When that runs out we make our own with a little fruit juice (tsp give or take, older is better), 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar, water and oil. Works as well as the original fruit fly attractant.

i use NIDO Forticada in everyday cooking. to make gravy, roux, carne quisada, in coffee and tea, to bake, make puddings. I also like to make the milk very thick and use it to mix into soft set jello. I add a can of drained fruit cocktail or other fruit and some times add nuts or raisins for a salad or dessert. I love NIDO Fortifcada. I vacuum seal some in different size jars to put back in the pantry. The cans they come in are metal with a nice rim around the top of the can, The can may be used for storage of other foods or whatever you would like,

Nido Fortificado is the only milk I use, as it is easy to measure and use in powdered form. When stored long term, I put in pint mason jars and vacuum seal the lids. They are stored in a cool dry place and I've had no problems!

I just found this product and received it a few days ago. I had never seen powdered whole milk before, so was excited to find this. I haven't tried it yet, but I will once I get through my container of powdered skim milk that I've never really cared for. Living rural, I often run out of milk or it goes sour and I realize it just when I want to use it. I don't want to waste the time and gas to drive into town just for some milk, so I always keep powdered milk in the house. When do I want pancakes, creamy comfort food or other things that are best with whole milk? When I'm snowed in, out of milk and have the time to make them of course!

I have used Nido 4 years past best by date. Actually 2 years past date unopened then 2 years past opening. Left in the can until half way down the put in jars. I generally only use for cooking a baking so I don't use it up quickly.

Whilst rotating through my store of NIDO a found a tin that had gotten out of sequence and was 2 months out of date, but it was fine. After seeing your video I realise I needn’t have worried about it. Good to know if stored properly will last a lot longer than the official expiration date. Edit : Since then I write the ‘expiry’ date on the lid so I shouldn’t make that mistake again.

Dear AG after watching this I remembered I had a small can of the Fortifacado in my pantry. It has a March 2020 expiration date 😳. After opening it I gave it a sniff. Didn't smell too bad. Was pale yellow and powdery. I mixed a couple tablespoons with water and gave it a taste. Kind of rich, but okay. Then I added some Nestle Quick strawberry powder. It tasted okay, too. I sure don't recommend letting it get this old, but it had been stored all along in cool, dry cupboard. Since it's so old, should I transfer it into a jar and refrigerate it?
