When I first bought my f1 I was also kinda cautious about the tip breaking and then one day I just had to find out if it would break and I couldn't break the tip. Pretty good knife. Love the geometry of it.

I'm not sure if pilots in a survival situation really require their knives to be beaten into trees to form a step up? Maybe they need to be taller airmen in the first place to reach up and get what they might be reaching for, or they could learn the bushcraft skill of jumping?
@vladimirmarkov20472 жыл бұрын
I think it was just test of prying capability of the knife. If you don't have anything more useful for pry open jammed door maybe you will like to use your knife.
@AlaskanFrontier12 жыл бұрын
I see what you did there. Maybe they need to be short to fit in the small aircraft??? But yes its really to test the prying as there is the argument that you may need to free yourself from debris. I do not how how realistic this would be for everyone but a test nonetheless

Great review! I really liked the comparison of these two knives. I own both and would never have thought to compare the two directly but you are correct that they are both designed as pilot survival knives and therefore directly comparable. I am not a pilot and have never been a fan of the LMF II though I have long been a big fan of its little brother, the Prodigy. One thing I would have liked to hear you talk about with respect to the LMF is the electrically insulated handle designed to be used to hack your way out of an aircraft wreck without being electrocuted if you hit a live wire. That is one of its most unique features but it does come with serious drawbacks with respect to handle durability as you noted. It cannot have a full tang and still have an exposed steel pommel for breaking glass without sacrificing the electrical insulation. As far as the F1 is concerned, I like mine and would take it out into the backcountry any day over the LMF, but I think there are better knives for the money. For the money I think the Garberg is a better option for bushcraft and survival. I know from your reviews of the Garberg that you are a fan as well and would probably agree. Perhaps a comparison of the Garberg and the F1, two popular Swedish belt knives, would make a good video. 😉

I settled on the F1 as my belt knife after trying tons of different production and custom knives. I have never been let down by it and if I lose it I’m not going to lose my mind like I would a high dollar custom.

F1 is the best knife I've ever owned. Getting out deep into the country in the States, you need a knife that you can bet your life on. F1 doesn't fail

Schrades SCHF51M is a badass frontier knife, and the illest thing about it, its mad cheap too. I seen a KZbin Video of a heavy set dude just straight hammer the knife into a gigantic log, he got it in there enough, that he pushed and pulled on the side of the blade, and that Schrade didn't't break nor bend. After that torture, I bought it on Amazon last August 2021 for $43.51, and I checked today, and its now $53.99, which is still a Kickass deal, for a fixed blade with decent sheath, ok sharpener, and fire starter flint.

interesting vedio. ill take the f1 hands down(i own the f1peo and f1x). Gerber is getting better,but have a long way to go to be what gerber used to be.Thank God you didnt include the okc pilot survival knife. to call that a piece of shit would be an insult to shit. Mine broke at the hilt during SERE school. What ive heard is that the air force SERE instructors are issued esee 4. The 4 inch blade size is ferfect to me for military survival. You dont need to baton large pieces of wood. If your down behind enemy lines you are not going to have a large roaring fire. Thanks for the vid,and keep them comming. Take care and be safe!

Glad to here that SERE instructors are finally issuing a quality knife, can’t go wrong with the ESEE. I also agree with you on the size.
@johnheller57862 жыл бұрын
@@alanrice39 yes. at least the instructors get a good knife! unfortunatly everyone else gets the okc knife,so if you want a good knife youll have to do what i did all those years ago. buy one. atbleast there is an amazing selection today compared to what i had to choose from.

Agreed. Those are terrible. One day Gerber may be good. But yeah for now ESEE or Fallkniven for all pilot survival needs

LMF is not a pilots knife, it's aimed at ground troops. It's actually called the LMF II Infantry on Gerber's website.

I don't know what you found similar in these knives to compare them together. One is an all-purpose knife with a good size and good geometry for most jobs. The other is half knife half saw and does not excel at any task, I would say he has a criminal aura. The term pilot survival knife is a bit of a stretch for today's aviation. Pilots now have tracking devices so survival is out of the question. They will never build huts or carve twigs to light a fire. The only reason they might need the knife is to cut the parachute ropes in case they landed in a tree. VG steel is not a good steel for any use because its edge easily becomes a saw.

The difference is simple: the F1 IS a pilot survival knife, where the LMF SAYS it is a pilot survival knife…😊
