Very nicely, gently & kindly done. Having to do this with my chicks, with meds, wormers or Nutri-drench, is such a stressful thing for me to try and do. Thank you for sharing this! It's a great approach & I'm going to try this.

My wife's family has a case of dying young hen who got closed behind the shed door days ago by accident and only found today , she cannot even hold herself up, cannot drink, eat or stand on her own, what to do? She can't even keep her eyes open - she only responds by openning her eyes now and then and allows me to talk to her gently. No one here would help me, I would want to try give her watter with syringe but I need someone to help me , they are all rural folks and I am a city-grown person... They all feel sorry for the hen but no one cares to really help or call vet, they look at me as if I was crazy... God how I hate rural life, it's just an array of suffering, dying and struggle. Fuck all of that. Sorry for my depressive rant, you are doing wonderful, completely different and so much better than traditional rural way of roughness and violence which is despicable.

Iv'e been in similar situation except more just losing various chickies from predators living next to a forest and not compromising on letting them live as naturally sovereign lives as possible. Livestock guardian dog(s) is the single most return value from investment possible especially if trained and from proven long lineage of actual ranch working dogs. Don't give up chickens have surprisingly complex personalities and emotions for the farm industry's animal with the least rights >_

Hey, we're new to keeping chickens & have very little experience with this kind of thing. Dealing with a chicken that has sour crop. Wasn't sure of the best method to force a chicken to drink. Used your method. Worked great, although she did shake her head & slung some of it on me! Thanks!

You don't do it the safe way. You are lucky, because she drank from the pipe. But if a hen refuses and you have to force, the safe method (you need 2 people), it's to put the tube inside of the throat, it prevents the bird to have the water in the lung hole, that is located in the beak. Yes, of course, you can be lucky and have no accident. But with water directly in the beak, and not the throat, you can also lost a hen. Luck/unluck. So it's better to have the safe method.

My chicken is nearly paralysed but can drink and eat. I have to move her every couple hours to get to shaded areas. She still lays and is alert. I put her to bed and when she stops eating I will have euthanasia done. She’s on painkillers. Sad to see them sick but we do our best to keep them going. Thanks for your video as it’s interesting how you give her water and will try this method to give her meds.

I just tried it - It works great, but my chicken (naturally) is not quite so cooperative. I have found that holding her waddles and gently pulling them downward causes her mouth to open - no need to use a finger to pry her beak apart. But - And there's always a But - as soon as she opens her beak, she also pulls her head back - so you have to have the syringe positioned just right...I just fill the syringe with enough for one small drink at a time - so as not to accidentally force too much water into her mouth.

Alright. So you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. But apparently you can feed a chicken water if it is sick.

A good tip for helping a sick animal and if force feeding is done this way , is to use not only water but you can buy ( i think online ) a bottle veterinarions use also , it contains a high level of proteins + elektrolytes so the bird only needs to be forced spread over the day for like 3-4 times ( different for mammals and reptiles ... same for rabbits etc ) use CCF from Vetark for this and got mine luckily alive , she had a broken leg and foot , no idea how she could do such thing but she also didn't want to eat nor drink , before that I also just used water , didn't really see any goodness coming so went to get that bottle and it is food and water at same time plus increases the appetite , well it works stimulating , but you do not have to buy the same brand or anything , lots of other brands will work the same way , yet note : be carefull if you do this because the syringe has to go deeper and that is also risky ( your bird has a crop , crop-tubing is a different thing then just watering the beak so before you do that make sure you atleast know that 1. the bird has 2 stomach and one crop , feeding has to be done straight into the crop or it can choke ) thx for sharing this one , btw you not necissarily have to touch her that way , if you just tap the upper point of the beak while dropping the bird automatically swallows it because it is annoying :)

I was wondering if you could maybe help me? We just got chicks not long ago and one of the chicks is smaller than all the other 5 chicks. Everyone else is very lively and growing well, but this one chick is just not eating and drinking as much as the others do and is always sleeping a lot. I pick the chick up sometimes to see if there's is anything physically wrong but everything seems to be ok on the outside. I looked up pasty butt and the chick doesn't have that. I don't want the chick to die. I don't know what's wrong or if it's just a runt or something. Please help

+Ashlyn Grover So sorry for the delayed response! You could try adding electrolytes to their water dish to give it a little boost. That might help. I'm sure you're doing a great job, though. Sometimes chicks just don't make it, sadly. Best of luck - let me know how it does. :(

We actually accidentally killed a chicken feeding her water through a syringe just like this. Please don't use this method. Further down in the comments the user, CQN APDN, has a better method that is much less risky. Keep your chickens safe! 💕
@WeirdoQueen2 жыл бұрын
And you know, we'd done it this way dozens of times, it only takes a little too much pressure on the plunger, or you're chicken breathing just when you dribble some of the water in their beak. It really isn't safe.
