Also I love how they perfectly have alastor still stick out even in a red background. My other artist friends were warning me not to draw a background with the same colors as my character saying it would draw attention away from my character. Hazbin hotel has shown it can indeed be done and shows why these art "rules" are just "guidelines ".

I wanted to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone, so I decided to draw cartoons and I'm actually learning more than I did before. My artwork is taking longer to create because I'm doing so much research but I'm very grateful for the new stuff I've been learning. I never thought about all this stuff that goes into creating a good picture or animation.

There are at least two reasons why it works here. One is the kinds of reds used. Think of the additive color wheel. Even if something is "red", it might lean towards yellow (warm red) or blue (cool red). Vivzie made sure that Alastor's hair and clothes are slightly cooler reds, while the backgrounds are warm reds. This principle can be applied to any color. The other factor is animation. We're descended from hunters. Our brains use movement to distinguish objects that would otherwise be fully camouflaged from their environments. In the clip, Alistor's hair and body are animated, while the background is not. A still, a 2D animation is very different from a still illustration. Without the animation, telling the subject from background will be difficult. Vivzie was pushing very real rules in graphic design to their limits. Other things you can do to distinguish subject from background with the same color include making the background darker than the subject or using very strong outlines around the subject.

@@CRanunculus yeah I got a friend who did a cartoon character that had red and purple but our friends were saying that while red and purple are fun colors together, it's difficult to have those colors work with certian backgrounds? I'm not sure what they meant by that, but it sounded interesting that some colors are almost forbidden from being used for such a reason.

the pitch up towards the end felt like it went a bit too far to me, but the lead up before then, with the static echo being low and growly behind the voice, was very epic, kind of managed to give the same effect as a choir while still sounding eldritch and warped, which is a hard balance to strike

Tbh the voice change kinda messes it up because alastor is a RADIO demon and from his designs he resembles a wendigo And if you listen closely you'll hear a faint screech when he says "im gonna make You wish that i'd stay gone tune on in, when im done your status quo will know your race is run. Oh This Will Be Fun" Across all of that idk if u can hear the screech because its really silent.

pretty sure the screech is what I was referring to in the first place. between 0:13 and 0:20 when he's talking relatively normally but there's static behind it. Funny thing is after the pitch up that actually sounds like the more normal voice. Unless that is the normal voice and the static pitched up past it. auditory illusions of that kind have happened.

His full demon form is actually based off of a mythical creature called the wendigo, which in short is; cannibalistic deer creature that makes deer noises

A Wendigo doesn't actually have any deer features, that imagebis something a lot more modern. In truth, a Wendigo is a human, but as they eat more human flesh, the craving for it gets stronger (This is an actual phenomenon that has been documented, where people who have had to cannibalize others for survival will describe a craving for it later.) There aren't many physical changes, a person will grow taller, up to 7 or 8 feet, they also look to always be starving, almost literally nothing but skin and bone. I think I remember hearing that they also grow paler or look like they are decaying, but I could be wrong. ^^

@@xxxhalo4everxxxTruth be told, the wendigo myth has been distorted heavily over time. In Native American folklore a wendigo is a disembodied evil nature spirit. Engaging in cannibalism opens one up to possession by this spirit, which then begins to distort the body of the possessed. The nature of the distortion varies between tellers but the deer imagery is something I think arose out of people confusing skinwalkers for wendigos.

funny thing is, i thought this is what it sounded like originally because my headphones were screwed up in the perfect way to where a distortion started whenever Alastor set his cane down effectively doing this only the changed voice was like 1/4 of a second behind his normal voice almost like an echo. Then I accidently fixed my headphones and thought, "huh what happened to the cool distortion thing" when i heard the song later that day.

@horsewings3561 yes. Most animation these days is made by drawing a character, and then separating the pieces by adding joints. It allows you to do subtle motions much easier, and can make scenes where the characters aren't moving in a particularly interesting way 10x faster to animate. For example, when the cast is standing there talking to someone. Puppets are rarely used in sequences such as this video though. The comment wasn't about this specific section though, so I figured I'd mention it.

I've tried other voice modulations, but this one is the best. It's much better if the modulation emphasizes the scary majesty, but doesn't kill the original Aleister's voice, and instead adds creepy spice to it to make it sound more impressive.

Nah, I like the idea of his voice always staying the same, even when his shape changes. A great radio host never loses their cool, and after all he is, and always will be, the radio demon. Honestly, it's way more unsettling hearing his normal voice coming out of the monstrous form. It means he's not "revealing" himself, he's always been that kind of monster.

So I was watching this episode at a friend’s house, and got kinda hooked on this song for the rest of the day. This edit is frikkin awesome btw, but I did notice that when I watched this clip or similar ones on my instead of on my tv as opposed to my phone or iPad, the little clock hands that are supposed to be visible in Alastor’s eyes towards the end don’t show up. I mean, it’s literally the same video, but somehow there’s something lost in translation between the different versions. Weird

If I can guess here, you took the original voice track and put it in a 20% flange at a slightly lower key. Maybe produced this secondary track over the original. In ableton? Not really sure. It's a simple process but I believe it's genuise if I'm correct. Alastor is rightfully scary with this fitting voice over pitch modification. You did God's work. You really did.

Gonna be honest, you added a bit too much. It was great, but you should have either left it with only a bit of the static and some demonic voices underlyng his voice, or layering more around it without pitching his voice any further, It would have worked much better that way than pushing the pitch of his voice so much.

It depends on the amount of lore you know The more human alasor voice is the more serious he becomes Usually you can't tell between his, threats, lies or truth But when his voice becomes clear, you'll hear the last thing his victim hears before he ends them His filter turning off is quite literal as well as he no longer has any filters and is going all out In this part of the song he's straight up saying he has his hands all over hell now And he's making the announcement that he will win
