Tucked away in my memory. Re-awakened by walking down the aisle of a store. All of a sudden it hit me. The memories came back. A song that had been stuck in my head. As a child my Honduran side of the family encouraged my American heritage. So here i was barely six years old. There used to be a kind of bar cantina down the block. They would play Laura Branigan, Madonna, Barbra Streisand. I would sneak in the middle of the night just to listen to the music. The one day i got busted by my uncle. I was just six years old and the only thing i could say was night. Years would pass about a decade actually till i was fluent enough in English to speak it and understand it fully. Then one day the songs revealed themself to me. They were " Everybody " by: Madonna, " Woman in Love " by: Barbra Streisand, " Self Control " by: Laura Branigan. Those three songs in that order take me back to 1984 lol. I had no clue what they were saying but to me they were magic. But it was the Laura Branigan the one that got me busted with my uncle. One day on a weekend he comes over to hang out with my aunt and grandma. Then all of a sudden the Cantina down the block were blasting out the song and everybody watched me as i started jamming to it. My uncle just picked me up. See thats his American blood calling out. They were all in shock. Me i just liked the song lol. Plus who could forget David Hasselhoff in Knight Rider. So after that everyone in the family, rushed and encouraged me to learn to speak English. Like I said it would take an entire decade for me to pick up my english lessons. Then out of no where. I am sure many can relate. It either happens in the shower or when one is cleaning the house on the weekend playing the radio. Boom, out of nowhere the song reveals it's meaning and message. Then thats when you know you are fluent in English. When no one explains the song to you, you figure it out on your own. So I also learned I tend to like pop icons lol :) stay safe and blessed everyone :)XOXO
