Thanks, Patrick, for another great video with great advice. No stupid graphics, no maudlin drama music. Just plain old, honest to goodness vlogging with great and useful content.

Hi Patrick. I was going to mention to you since you brought up bikes. Here in Vlorë I run all my errands on a bike. I'm an old road cyclist from back in the day so I enjoy getting on a bike and putting in 40 or so miles in the area here. For utility use locally I got a Brompton C Line with a rear rack and the 28 litre bag that fits on the front. Great for grocery shopping and general errands. They also have options for ebikes. It's a folding bike which is convenient and small enough it'll fit in overhead storage on an airliner. If I need a car it's easy enough to rent one for a day or two as I'm sure you're aware. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks.

So true about different cities within a country. Weather, for a start. Scenery. Vibe. Different cities, and different countries, will appeal to different people. It helps to really have your own preferences and values clear, so as you research and visit places, you can see what resonates.

Another great video. Future topic, when you have aging parents, or children that are not in Albania, what is it like to travel back to the US, and how did you address that in your own situation. Very interested in Albania, but would love to hear more about the emotional distance. Thank you!

We talked about it with our 2 kids. They were both very supportive. And said go for it. There comes a time when you have to put yourself first. Kids are grown and tackling life on their own, and other family has to stand up for themselves. Its YOUR turn now. While you can still enjoy traveling. Its YOUR time now.

Hi Patrick, I hear that cough slowly but surely moving away.😄 Great information! I am a german citizen, but lived in the states half of my life, so your suggestion to move somewhere debt free is very relevant. From my experience American people consume a lot more, balancing everything with bank credits and credit cards. European people not so much. A car looses it´s value as soon as you drive off the lot, but you pay on it for a long time. As far as health insurance is concerned: I can assure people that no one in Europe will charge you high costs for medical treatment or prescriptions. It is very affordable, and in a lot of countries there is public health insurance for ´´free´´ because everyone that is employed, retired etc. pays a small amount into health insurance, which on the other hand covers the people that are for example on welfare. Selecting extra insurance is great, but not a complete must for people. (it also depends on the country in Europe, when you select the right insurance for you). Another option is to just set a certain amount to the side, in case anything medical related would have to be paid.

Nice video, keep it up. Regarding health insurance, you don't have to worry too much. In case of common interventions, everything is public and fairly affordable by locals. No public hospital will let you down or just leave you suffer because one can't pay. I hope that day never comes for Albania.

I am actually interested in moving to Pogradec in the future also. My biggest question since you brought up rentals - is it hard to acquire a rental with a dog? I don't know how pet friendly they are there...thank you! :)
@patrickoverseas4 сағат бұрын
rentals with a pet can be a problem. I do know someone who was turned down because of a pet. Then offered a extra $100 a month. And got the place. But pets make it harder.
@whosebonesaresharpКүн бұрын
I'm a lot like you I tend to play it safe on health care coverage. I rarely use it but just can't imagine being without it in a time of great need. Though to be honest even the full out of pocket expenses in a catastrophic event are a fraction of what they are in the States. At least that is what we experienced in our travels. Regarding your decision to buy vs rent as a safety net of stability I say ABSOLUTELY! I get it. Who could not see the sense especially considering the price and location. There is bound to be equity realized in such a deal. I don't think you are morbid. I often think of how we might set the stage for a more secure future for my wife Erika just in case I check out earlier than expected. Have to say the lake looks quite peaceful today and especially beautiful framed by the snow capped mountains. I saw a comment below about the trout... I have wondered how is it? Keep on sharing your walks and your city and I will continue to tune in and enjoy with my morning coffee.

You're usually OK going city to city (Tirana-Shkodra etc) but may struggle getting to smaller locations. There is usually a city "bus station" consisting of numerous minibuses with the destination shown in the window. No timetables as such, they depart when full.

I just looked at Cigna and it would be $25 less a month than Genki, but Albania only so it wouldn’t cover me when I go on trips outside the country and there’s no medical evacuation. For $25 a month I would rather have both of those things and that piece of mind.

No politician is going to commit political suicide and end that entitlement. Now going broke because of 36 trillion and rising debt until hyperinflation collapses our currency and nation? That’s another story and the path we’re on. The truth is zero politicians care about you regardless of party.

Were living off 2 pensions. Not collecting social security yet. Im not stressing it. You cant live like that. If they ever did shut down social security (( and i dont believe they ever will )) it wont matter where your living. U.S. or else where. The elderly would litter the streets.
