This guy helped me to give up my preconceived ideas related to Kia/Hyundai thereby allowing me to purchase quite possibly the funnest car I've ever driven. While shopping cars last April I discovered that Beirman had been instrumental in the design of the Veloster N and when I discovered that, I decided to at least test drive it. I had never even considered Hyundai... It wasn't even on the radar. I had previously looked at Honda, Mazda, and Nissan when I tested the Hyundai. After the drive, I did something I had never done before. I purchased it that day. Normally when I purchased a vehicle, I would give it time, continue to look and then make my decision. The car fit what I was looking for so closely, I didn't want to take the chance of someone else grabbing it while I was was off pondering. I fell in love with the car from the first drive. That love and enjoyment has only grown since then for this car. It's not the fanciest, nor the fastest, but my God it's a blast! Thanks Albert, you are a legend and I only see that you are getting better with Time. To make a car like my Veloster N, that is attainable for the common guy is absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see what is next From The BOSS!!!!!

As a Korean working in the auto industry 15+ years, i am really grateful that such an iconic person came to Korea to put mojo in Korean cars. I saw him from a distance a few times during domestic events, and our respect to him is genuine. Regardless of which company you work for. (i don’t work for Hyundai, but rather a German company). I hope to see more attractive cars!!!

Thank you Albert Biermann for bringing your remarkable vision to the humble, hardworking engineers of Korea. What you've done at Hyundai/Genesis/Kia is truly historic.

So many of his M car touches in the N cars. The dashed yellow "redline" on the rev counter that creeps up as the oil warms, the sense of the car just getting better and better the harder its driven, and the sense of engineering integrity and mechanical unburstability, and the way the whole car feels like its been polished and refined, and had its whole character built by people who love driving. I've had faster and more expensive cars than my i30N, but it is my favourite by a mile.

Absolutely. Your description could have been for any of his m cars ahaha. It perfectly described my old E90 M3 sedan.

This man is what made me fall in love with BMWs M division. It’s sad to see where the brand is now. It’s really become a joke for those of us, including my parents who were the true enthusiasts and made the brand what it is today. Well done Mr. Biermann👍

Great interview! I like how he explained getting to work doing his hobby and how later he was seen at the company as the guy/group wasting money, then to later realize how others in the industry, and us car enthusiasts, view him. It is sad that companies don't recognize great talent and treat them poorly after years of service. We are happy that Hyundai approached him and that he can continue to share his talents with another company that will benefit us car loving folks in the long tun. His contributions to us will be spoken of, even after he retires. I do hope he will give us some more great products at KIA. Of course some of us are looking for a sportier driving Stinger or suspension mods, with the Biermann approval for our Stingers/G70/80.

Great interview, Moto man. Albert has clearly become the right man at the right time at Hyundai / Kia. Eventually, his benefits will no longer be needed there because of movement towards all new cars in the future, and all new needs for the buying public. But for now, we can all appreciate the ability of both Albert and the company to benefit so well together.

Clearly a people person as well as a talented engineer. He's quite humble about the way that so many people reached out to him and supported him over the years, but that's the mark of not only a great talent, but someone who is genuinely liked and respected.

It's not just about the product, it's about feeling respected and being given freedom to do what you do without being bogged down with politics and ever tightening restrictions. As well as the challenge of getting a complete new division and sub-brand off the ground, and playing a fundamental role in shaping it, and the products that will define it, I also get the distinct impression that whatever he asks for in Hyundai, within reason of course, is green lighted. Compared to the interference and restriction at BMW, it must be like a breath of fresh air. Instead of going through the motions at BMW, and sliding off into the early retirement he'd planned, he's taken on a new challenge with a blank sheet of paper. It's not hard to see the appeal, IMO.
