The words spoken in this way by German emigrant Albert Bierstadt about his new American home illustrate the overwhelming effect that the pristine expanses of the New World had on him. With his idyllic and idealised landscapes, not always loved by critics, Bierstadt posthumously became one of the pioneers of the conservation movement, showing a broad population the beauty of the still largely undeveloped continent.

Ein interessanter deutsch-amerikanischer Maler. Er kommt stilgeschichtlich aus der deutschen Spätromantik, die natürlich um 1870 längst passé ist. Sie haben die Hauptunterschiede zur deutschen Malerei benannt: Licht und Pathos. Ein weiterer Aspekt ist die "Entdeckung" des nordamerikanischen Westens in der Kunst. Eine besonders lohnende Folge!

Überraschender, in Europa wohl eher unbekannter Künstler. Schön, wenn einem in der #Landschaftsmalerei auch mal neue Horizonte (hihi...) eröffnet werden... 👍
