I blame Kraft for this mess. He's been cheap. He committed to Mayo too soon. He never really conducted any real search for a coach OR for a GM. Elliot Wolf has done an AWFUL job in his first offseason. They didn't land a single free agent they coveted. They wouldn't pay the OC they really wanted. They didn't address the left tackle position by actually signing or drafting a REAL left tackle. Their entire approach was to slap band aids on things and to have players playing out of position. Honestly, I just don't want Wolf making the personnel decisions again next year. Oh, and they also don't have a single other player who can snap the football if Andrews goes down, so if he gets hurt they are even further screwed.

Very good points! What I don't understand is why haven't they addressed the subpar receivers group? They ignore it year after year with patchwork at most except the one time Bill splurged a little in free angency, They refuse to go out and bring in good receivers.

We all knew how bad this offense was going to be. Everyone has been puffing up this defense for years now, and I've been saying it's overatted as hell. When they play a good/elite QB and not a 2nd/3rd stringer, it gets exposed every time. Im so tired of hearing how good they are. They'll get exposed again against the 49ers and then if Skyler Thompson plays like he did in the playoff game against the Bills, the defense will be exposed again. This team is going no where anytime soon. No, legit FA's will wanna sign here, and I'm not sold. The GM can draft good young talent. Welcome to basementville for the next 3-5 years.

It wasn't overrated when Belichick was running it. You just expect too much. If the offense scores 10 points, you want the defense to hold the other team to 9. Sorry, that is an impossible ask. The defense had been quite good because they had a defensive genius running it. If you think otherwise then everyone working in the NFL will laugh their asses off at you. So you know more than them? I hope you aren't that delusional. Now the Pats have rookie coaches and gms that know nothing. The Seahawks and Jets made them look silly. The Seahawks said they knew everything the Pats D was going to do. No one ever said that about the Pats when Belichick was here. Then their qbs were saying they were seeing ghosts. You will now understand the difference and what this team has lost. Brissett said it looked like the Seahawks were tipped on all their plays. The Jets just blitzed all night and the Pats appeared to have no clue how to handle it. Blitzes are basic stuff in the NFL. The Pats now have a clown coaching staff with a clown gm owned by a couple of clowns named Kraft. Hope you at least enjoy clown shows.

I will agree and disagree a little, but I do think you are mostly right. I disagree in that I saw a lot of people(way more than I should have)touting this team as a playoff contender right away. That was too much, too soon. As soon as they signed Jacoby, I saw people commenting "This is the best case scenario for Maye, he gets to learn from a veteran who is underrated" blah blah. Brissett is now on his fifth team in 5 years. Why is that? I like Brissett, but if he could really be a starter and help a team win he would be exactly that somewhere else. I think the defense is a little overrated, but I think they are good enough. Not great, probably middle of the pack or so, but they might help keep the team in some games. Overall people went wild on this team(as they do every year), and I think the expectations everywhere should be low. I was expecting 3-5 wins give or take, and I think now we are seeing how legitimate that is as a possibility. They need offensive line help and receivers. If you had those two I think the team is better by a large margin.

Can't forget that traded up for 4th round kicker that is no longer on the team. Or those two 3rd round tight ends from a few years ago? The guy from Chattanooga that was such a massive reach, other teams laughed at the organization? There have been several years of blown drafts that the team has to make up for. The rebuild will take time.

I do think he left this team with a weirdly large talent deficit that will take a few years to get out of, but the team as it is constructed right now is on ownership and coaching. Kraft has been cheap for a long time, so he's part of this too.

I don't want the Patriots to be Dolphins chasing the next Brady for 30+ years. If Maye isn't ready fine, but what the organization done to bolster the offense since Brady? Newton was past his prime, Jones was good but dropped off since getting a legit OC after McDaniels was somehow a sin. Let the kids sit and put other QBs, sorry JB, be fed into the meat grinder until you build an o-line that can keep Maye from "seeing ghosts". Like Breer said, carry 4 QBs for now if you want to develop Milton. It won't really hurt the roster to drop any of the bottom strings from any positional grouping

Brady, the GOAT, wasn’t a gunslinging scrambling QB with a cannon for an arm - but he was “the smartest” player on the field on both sides of the ball and his O-line was on the same wavelength. Big, strong, mean, smart, cornfed good ol’ boys, like, Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Stephen Neal, Dan Koppen, and David Andrew’s. So its blame on Bill and Kraft for not getting ready for the retirement of Brady no top oline in years, no #1 wr since randy moss, not top te since gronk. And dumb plays on both defense and offense. Why are Dbs 10 yards off their wrs these past 2 games. Bill and Kraft wasted at least 4 years on dumb moves and since Brady's last 2-3 years until the end of Bill they didnt pay for talent offensively and only drafted defensive talent. The last true Offensive talent we drafted was Gronk and Hernandez everyone else was/is mediocre at best.

The defense has no playmakers on the defensive line or the linebackers. And their secondary is full of run players. In a passing league. Look, we had an amazing run. Brady is our Jordan. Gonzo is a top 5 graded corner right now. Id say Maye, Gonzo, and Mondre have elite potential still. All it takes is the right moves, look at Houston. It takes a while to get elite young talent but thats why its a rebuild.
