A piece called "In a Persian Market", written by an English composer, and performed by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra on what looks like a combination of European and Chinese instruments. A wonderful performance, and a glorious antidote to the stupid nationalism rampant today.

Oh my! This was indescribably delicious! This was far more interesting than a standard orchestra or piano version and so much more satisfying. Khudyev and orchestra was 100% synergistic. These tempos are much more exciting and energetic than usually performed. This actually sounded Persian instead of English light fare. I love the smiling faces and appreciative reception.

Besides great and amazing harmony and redition, this can be considered as a human combination in solidity and peace as a Asian orchestra played a musics about Persian composed by a Western man conducted by a central Asian man. Those four elements made it really become a world music. Asian style made me so melt and proud (+heart)
@DreamingBigRocks4 жыл бұрын
"Central Asian conducting an Asian orchestra, with music by a British composer about Persia." makes more sense. The composer, Albert Ketèlbey, was born in Britain. The conductor, Farkhad Khudyev, was born in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan or Central Asia. The Taipei Chinese orchestra is Asian. Not sure what you mean "Asian orchestra conducted as a Western man playing a music about Persian."

Following Gorge Poveda, the Taipei Orchestra is to be praised for keeping Ketelbey’s original sounds. In other words, the ensemble didn’t make the piece Chinese (Sinicized, for a better term) regardless of a lot of Oriental instruments. Now please look at the fiddles. Generally speaking, in classical orchestral performances, strings take a pivotal role. And in the said section, violins share a portion of sonority at least equal to that of viola, cello and bass. Under Khudyev’ s baton, the tradional Chinese fiddles (surrogate violins) stayed inaudible, except during a very short moment at 6:16 - 6:40 when playing alone. ALL things considered, this is a rendition of quality, and visually attracting, a nice combination of instruments from different origins.

its called the chinese sheng, the instrument is a free reed instrument with a total of 36 pipes which can be played independantly or in chords. You also see a whole range of sheng in this orchestra from the soprano sheng, alto sheng, tenor sheng and bass sheng you can tell by the size of the pipes.
