Grandeeeee !!!!!

I've actually lost count of the number of times I've seen Albert perform live. It's somewhere between 12 and 15, if memory serves. He once signed a cassette tape cover of mine (cassette tape cover; that's old!) during a masterclass he delivered supporting the album 'Gagged But Not Bound' and he's the sweetest, most unassuming virtuoso I've ever encountered. Zero ego and a complete gentleman.

My wife and I saw Albert Lee in a small venue in Portland Maine last week. He is in deed a player's player. J.T. Thomas, who plays here, was also sensational on keyboards. A humble virtuoso, who was also funny, entertaining, and held nothing back even though the full-house was 120 people max. If you get a chance to see this guy, go. You'll leave happy ... and singing.

Pan Albert Lee to niezwykle skromna i ciepła Osoba.

Is this rock 'n roll playing or country? I'm genuinely interested to know the difference. Can anyone help?
@markrodgers2976
@markrodgers2976 4 жыл бұрын
Basically, it's both. Country and early Rock & Roll developed simultaneously, and from many of the same influences, and Albert Lee has roots in both styles, and it's reflected in his playing. He's long been a Nashville (i.e. "country") session ace, as well as having worked with numerous rock acts (Clapton, John Fogerty, etc.). This could be termed "Country-Rock", which is an actual musical genre (though it can also span a wide range of styles).
@zootsoot2006
@zootsoot2006 4 жыл бұрын
@@markrodgers2976 Thanks! That's what I was thinking but it's almost heresy nowadays to say that rock 'n roll came out of country and not blues/rhythm and blues. But clearly whereas the blues uses the minor pentatonic, country and rock and roll uses the major. Country -> Rockabilly -> Rock n roll -> Rock/Pop.

@@zootsoot2006 Albert started playing listening to the early Rock & Roll, but he also loved some of the early country (George Jones & Buck Owens)…so I think he does a little of Rockabilly, Rock & Roll, Blues & Country - sort of like the Everly Brothers!!! 🥰❤️🌺😊

Mark wilkins, Albert does actually say Richard Thompson, not "Ritchie", if you listen closely. However, he flubbed the lyrics a little bit, it's supposed to go "well I like coffee and I like tea/ but I just don't like this *affinity*. Not " fiddly-dee" as Albert sang it. It was a serviceable version, but definitely not as fiery as when Richard does it. BTW, my wife and I saw Albert play with this same band a couple of years ago.

@@goodun2974 Albert doesn’t sing the lyric word-for-word the way RT did on the “Hand of Kindness” record. However, Richard does sing “fiddle-dee-dee” on the album. These days, RT sings “I like coffee and I like tea/but I just don’t like what you’re doin’ to me.”

By the way, it occurred to me to wonder if Richard, as a Sufi Muslim, even drinks coffee or tea, as they are generally considered to be psychoactive substances. I looked it up, and surprise surprise, historically the drinking of coffee originated with Sufi Muslim monks. Whether Richard actually drinks them is another matter (I am sitting here with a cuppa joe as I write this). Even at his current age, his voice is as deep, resonant and powerful as it has ever been, and so I wonder if he avoids drinking anything that might affect it.
