Was actually hoping he would get to 700 doubles also to join Speaker, Rose, Musial and Cobb. The line drive type of hitters that are different from the homerun hitters like Bonds, Aaron and Ruth. Albert would have joined both clubs had he done that but alas, he missed it by 14 doubles. Think his lack of speed stopped him as I'd watch him line a shot off the wall and end up with only a single many times in the last few years. Boy will I miss watching him hit in the 2023 season...

Watching him hit #703 and passing Babe Ruth in one fell swoop...seeing it live in the stands...wow. It's a memory I'll never forget. I never thought I would see someone ALL ALONE in 2nd place with career total bases and RBI AND hit more than 700 home runs. He's the greatest player since Hammerin' Hank Aaron, and the greatest ballplayer of my generation.

Should have seen him in his first Cardinals life. He was easily the most amazing hitter you've ever seen. He never didn't fight as hard as he could. Ground outs were as loud as a bomb in the crowd. Contact was pleasure.

It feels like my childhood has came to a close after seeing my favorite player i grew up watching retire. I truly believe if Albert had stayed in St.Louis he would have had 800 career homeruns! This man was something else. He averaged only 50 strikeouts a year . Man oh man he just crushed the ball! How can you not love this guy??? With all he accomplished this man should be a unanimous HOF candidate. He's up on baseball's Mount Rushmore with Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron. Im overwhelmed from watching this video clip of Albert just annihilating the baseball. Yes Babe Ruth has been gone from the game as a player for nearly 90 years but when your name is mentioned right alongside Babe Ruth you're definitely a living legend . That my friends is Albert Pujols. And I just want to say it again, HE ONLY AVERAGED ABOUT 50 STRIKEOUTS A SEASON!

His contract with the Cardinals allowed them to use Albert in situations where he could still rake. He hasn't been able to hit right handed pitching for about 5 seasons, but he never stopped killing lefties. The Angels had to use him everyday because of the money he was making.

469 out of 703 as a STL Cardinal!!!..I agree with you...When he left he had 445 would've just needed bout 355 to have got 800 career homers milestone all as a STL Cardinal...He got to 703 Career after leaving STL and rejoining..I also ponder what wouldve happened had he stayed...Would the Cardinals have won the 2013 postseason vs Big Papi Red Sox? Molina never technically robbed the Cardinals he got $163,000,000 over 18 years...He kept it under $200 million even when they let Pujols leave...Wainwright got $181 million in 18 years, a bit more than Molina but still under $200 million...People act like Pujols asked DeWitt for literally $500 million but thats not the case...He is used as a pin cushion by some fans for being greedy but to this day the STL Cardinals have never signed a free agent over 7 years $120 million yet...So to me the blame shifts to the GM and cheap ownership...

I feel like Albert isnt the greatest of all time because of the 700 hrs but the consistency throughout in his career even when he had a “down year” he was still an above average player and im sure we all knew this is how it would end

He wouldn't have been as good though. His counting stuff sure, but the reason he did so well in all of these appearances was because he wasn't wearing himself out playing every day

@@b1lly137 Ok but he would have been fine starting 125 instead of ONLY 85 or so with a lot of 1 AB PH duty factoring into the 109 GP mix @ only 351 plate appearances + he was the DH in most of his starts anyway with only 20 @ 1st base so the wear & tear was very limited! He would have had more homers & rbi without a doubt & the .270 average would have remained similar or gotten even better. He needed to play regularly to get comfortable & back in his groove & once he got in there on a daily basis for a while, not 1-2 times a week, he took off & you obviously saw it. Think that one over but he's retired & waiting for the call from the Hall in 5 years @ this point.
