If I was Charlene, I would have started learning French right away. As in, complete and total immersion. Which I thought she did - there were rumors that she was in a very prestigious language school to learn French, as she was touted as Albert's serious girlfriend and potential wife.

I'm sure she's nervous. She never thought she would grow up to be the Princess of Monaco, and French isn't the easiest language to learn. Not to mention many people in Monaco speak perfect English. Look at this interview, geez she is trying so hard. Maybe she genuinely loves Albert, (as condescending as he seems), whatever the case may be I cannot help but feel for this girl.

You judge her too much. It seems like she and Albert had an issue before the interview. Not to mention she is clearly nervous, and I don't think her French is very good, so its quite possible she answered the only way she could. But I do agree it would have helped to respond in English.

Too much emphasis is placed on learning French. Princess Grace never mastered it, either, and she's beloved to this day. She never needed to, in her case: her Hollywood glamour, beauty and prestige is what elevated Monaco from a backwoods swamp.

I'm surprised that Charlene can't speak a lick of French. The last I heard, she was in a super-intensive language course in order to become bilingual. Speaking French would be, I assume, pretty important as a future Princess of Monaco?

I don't think Charlene is necessarily a gold digger. Didn't she try to escape to her home country 3 times before the wedding? She obviously realized she was in over her head and was trying to get out of the marriage. A person all about money could care less. Why would she risk the embarrassment and public scrutiny if she was just in it for the money? I believe that she was probably coerced or maybe even threatened. Most of her expressions are like she's agonizing over her predicament. Al was desperate to get married and have an heir, and Charlene was the perfect candidate to be a princess, she fits the stereotype of what a princess should be. What young girl dreams of marrying a man that has illegitimate children everywhere? Most women prefer to start their own families with the man they marry.

Marriage in Christianity and Catholic is not something that because you don’t like it then you leave it!

Charlene wasnt a young girl when she married Prince Albert, she was 33.Almost a young middleage woman. But I think she wasnt as experienced as many other women of her age.

I came to this video after seeing the recent news about Charlene "ill health" Lord.... 😬 This was awkward and forced, it reminded me Diana and Charles engagement interview. I can't believe Charlene said "what do you want me to say" that's really unprofessional in an TV interview. Did she received any media training at all? And that little exchange about escaping to a country home when things "get too complicated". 😬 It's almost like they are predicting the future.
