I’ve read the notes about UV cure and I’m very familiar with epoxy allergy/sensitivity. Epoxy is my biz. It’s all about handling. Touch it, then rub your eyes/nose...no bueno, and over time it builds up in your system until all at once like water over a dam you break out in hives. Fumes should be avoided but finger contact and spreading is the main culprit. There are preventative creams that work pretty well along with gloves. Contact me if you want to discuss.

This one is not for me by materials or use but it’s still a handsome pattern. Thanks for another one dude.

Reminds me of a South African saltwater fly we have called the Dogs Breakfast. Great fly.

Would you use the loon UV glue over the glue gun? What I mean is instead of the glue gun use the loon UV glue.

How well does the hot glue hold up for saltwater fish? Would uv resin be a better option?

The fly is designed to be durable but UV cure might be a better option. I believe Mr. Reagan came up with this pattern long before UV cure resin was readily available. I have tied this using both thick and flex UV resins and it is much easier to get neater looking flies than it is using the hot melt glue. The downside is, these flies require a lot of resin and the stuff ain't cheap. I've also developed a sensitivity to UV resin and need to be very careful when using it. Not so with the hot melt.

Don’t know as I’ve never tried it. But that’s one heck of a good idea!

Have you fished this fly? How many fish can you catch before the hot glue let’s go of the feathers? It is a cool looking fly though!

The fly is really designed for durability. Virtually every material on it is first embedded in hot melt glue then covered with it. I have some that have degraded and started to come apart but they were tied years ago and have been exposed to hot sun and freezing cold. Bottom line, even if I only catch one Albie per fly I'd be happy (only if I could be that lucky).

Hey Tim, curious about the use of glue vs. a thicker UV resin. Is it the set time? Does the heat play a role?

It works very well with UV, I think way better than the hot melt. But, this is the way the original was tied. Also, I have developed a sensitivity to UV resins and need to use them with protective gloves and fan to dissipate fumes. It’s a real bummer.

@@tightlinevideo sorry to hear! But I can imagine that we are all biting off more than we can chew with some of these "non-toxic" materials.
