Kreinik is the best flash material on the market IMO. I'm talking about the stuff in this video, not the flat stuff that is clearly flashabou. This stuff is 2 different materials corded together, giving it a spongy feel. The applications for it are myriad. The only time I DONT use it is when I need stiff fibers, so I haven't thrown out the Krystal flash just yet. But for all other needs, it just outshines the competition. You can even STACK IT LIKE DEER HAIR.

You've changed the tail and body materials to the extent that this is not a Golden Retriever. It resembles a Maple Syrup more than Finn's GR.

Hence the “ish” at the end of Golden Retrieverish.

I really like the way you secure the lead. For one, it then secures the bead where you want it, and then pushes the tying thread back as you go, allowing you to tie off and break off the lead how you want. Fantastic! (Sorry to hear the allergy to resin - alas . . .)

I have a hard time with the wood duck. Now I tie it as a parachute wing then on the stream I shape it with the floatant gel.

Gary's Sparkle Emerger hasn't been a killer, for me, for years. I've been out with guides that have told me, "You'll never catch anything with that fly". It's happened at least twice, and both times, I caught more fish in a half hour than I had caught all day previously. The original fishes great on the swing...with the wet fly partridge collar, I think it's even better. Excellent tip to form the bubble!

The bucktail clouser looks and swims better. I prefer to tie this fly Gotcha style with all the materials tied inside the point side of the hook. The original pattern calls for tying white ducktail on the back of the hook. This tends to foul and wrap around the bend of the hook.

Is it better to buy this material in person?! I ask cause some stuff I've gotten in recently... let's just say from Montana, Colorado and Utah... doesn't look ANY THING like what's used here. Do they just pick the crap from last year to send out?! My peacock has barely any small fibers.... the marabou was RIPPED off cause it didn't fit in the bag... they obviously ripped the TIPS off to fit the zip bag instead of putting it in a bigger bag... so frustrating!!

Just want to say thanks. I've watched many of your videos, and the two tips you lay out here (how to deal with those tiny assed beads, and how exactly to measure, cut and tie on the CDC tail) are gold!

Beautiful. I grew up in the tri state area of Orange County, NY fly fishing the Delaware, Neversink, Mongaup and Lackawaxen Rivers. The Hendrickson hatch always begins around the third week in April and lasts as late as the last week of May. The hatches around 3pm are huge at times and you’ll find scores of targets on the water. I was very blessed to have had my grandfather figure taught me everything I know about tying Catskill style dry flies when I was a kid. He passed all of his materials on to me when he passed back in 2007. Hoffman signature saddle and neck hackles, gallon sized ziplock bags full of woodduck flank feathers (with a $1.99 price tag on each bag!). It’s tough to find woodduck flank nowadays and if you do, you’re paying an enormous amount of money for them. For Hendrickson dubbing I’ve always used the pink stained fur of the female red vixen fox and I blend a little bit of grey and tan fox fur to make the classic Hendrickson pink dubbing. I tie my Hendrickson emerger and use snowshoe for the wing and some Z-Lon for a trailing shuck. I’ve found this emerger pattern to be especially good when fish are feeding in flatter water.

are your 'hook' tweezers specifically for hooks? When I get down to that size of hook I can't keep hold of the little buggers.

Wet flys like this are intended to imitate emerging mayflies but they also might represent caddis pupae or even small baitfish.

You can use some adhesives on these. Water based head cement is fine with it. I've heard loctite gel is ok too. UV resin and solvent based cements are a no-no.

I love this fly. Ill never forget my dad telling me wooly buggers could be the best fly out there considering they will catch any fish that will hit a fly so long as its the right size and color. You can make so many variations depending on the body (various kinds of chenille, estaz or dubbing etc). You can add legs, different bead colors and sizes to create an egg sucking leech. Also, despite being one of the easiest flies to tie, you make them as beautiful as you want or as crude as you want without sacrificing its effectiveness. You can strip it fast and aggressively, slowly, or drift them under an indicator by itself or with a dropper. And a box full just looks nice.

Outstanding video. More of these please. I use a 4” rubber coated twist tie like you were showing for my drop-shot set ups when walking/transporting my rod. The drop shot lead likes to wrap around my rod/rod handle. The twist tie hold it in place till I’m ready to fish

Excellent as always Tim. I usually fish this unweighted as well. But I'm really liking your way of adding weight to flies. No waste. I really like fishing this type of streamer at night. I copied this from one of your previous tutorials and it is bar none my #1 nightshift fly.

Nice fly Tim. What caught my attention though was the lodge you stayed at. I first met Marianne and Urs, many years ago, at a Bob Marriott fly fishing show in SoCal. They were exploring the concept of flying fishermen into the remote areas for the day, then returning to a high-quality lodge every evening. Urs didn't know boo about fly fishing but he's a superb pilot with a ton of experience/hours and he knew where the fish were. Of all the ("bush") pilots I've flown with, from Canada to the outlying areas of Alaska, I'd rate him, hands down, the best. Over the years, I've returned there maybe 10X, I forget. Typical Swiss hospitality, excellent accommodations and food mixed with beautiful arial views and very good trout/grayling fishing in the mid-summer months. Thanks for the shots; brought back nice memories.

Gee's I stayed at the Lodge back in 1996 and 97, I was doing seasonal helicopter flying at the time and would make the drive. Its a great place. The just was putting the finishing touches on the place as recall, stayed a few nights in the old cabins next door. Iliked the cabins the best.I have not though of that place in years.
