Iam from Queens and also live in South Florida in a day I'll be going fishing for bluefish. I remember catching a 14lb blue by fire island. Hope you get out there and return wonderful memories or start a new season, find some ol New Yorkers.

I grew up on Long Island also. Fished every chance I got. Worked @ Captree as a Mate for a while back in the 1970s. Now in SC. Miss those days back on LI. My PB Bluefish was a hair under 22 LBs! A real Bruiser. Taken off a Wreck out of Fire Island Inlet in November.

I am a big fan of the speed, power, and aggression of bluefish. Every spring as the water is warming up in western LIS and stripers have begun getting active, I'm getting excited for those "choppers" to start moving in. I still enjoy catching stripers, but pound for pound, bluefish are easily stronger and faster. In saltwater fishing in the Northeast, there's nothing better than ripping a topwater through a huge bluefish blitz and seeing those choppers slamming the lure over and over before setting the hook and fighting the fish as it does its tarpon-like jumps. I definitely had to subscribe after seeing this.

You call them Gator Blues. They deserve this name. Here in Turkey we call this size bluefish as “Black back” due to the black color on them.
@fernandosalas85894 жыл бұрын
Caught halve the size here in South Florida and trying to get the hook off you can here it's teeth grinding at my pliers it just kept bitting and I left it alone so it can calm down but it still was bitting pliers. Little or big they are aggressive.

Hi, Bluefish have sharp teeth and will bite trough even heavy fluorocarbon leader. We use wire, metallic wire to avoid loosing flies, lures. Wire leader is rated by lbs (pounds) and we use anything from 15lbs for flies to 30lbs for spinning rods. Good luck!

@@thesearethebreaks2124 for the blues, any cove or are that has shallow water with deeper channels near by will attract these fish. Obviously boat traffic doesn't help so the quieter the better and get there early in the morning.
