That cheater device on the Toyota Celica basically popped the turbo restrictor loose once the intake hose was attached to the turbo, letting air in around the sides of the restrictor so the turbo can suck in 25% more air. Their engines made 50hp more than the rest, which is a lot considering the cars back then had about 300hp. As far as anyone knows this was only used in 1995, but no one knows for sure. Toyota was very successful in the years prior, but they’ve also proven many times they know how to build fast rally cars.
