I was in shock when I first listened to the album. This album is NOT my genre nor my style or taste in music but somehow after the 2nd listen, 3rd listen and the rest, I found myself just on chokehold with this album. I'm completely in love with this album. It's the intricate and complex production, the fun, lovely and also relatable lyricism, the love letter to self, LGBTQIA community and your partner and of course the VOCALSSS. Even in up beat, rap and genreless songs, SHE SINGS.

She’s the baddest and hardest working woman on the planet. Even in her 40s Beyoncé puts women in their 20s to tucking shame. Her work ethics, physical stamina and effortless and flawless vocals is unmatched. Bey is ICONIC, LEGENDARY and the true entertainment visionary GENIUS and GOAT!!!

Ahhh!! I’ve been waiting for this!! Ok so let’s get into the “uncle Johnny made my dress, that cheap spandex she looks a mess” line. It is referring to her late gay uncle Johnny (whom this album is dedicated to) making her dresses (which had spandex in them) back when she was in her destiny’s child days. “That cheap spandex, she looks a mess” line is referring to the comments people made about said dresses. I suppose she is referring to the haters with those lines.
@Shawnthedon Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, great response! Appreciate this!
@keenan7754 Жыл бұрын
Interesting interpretation of the cheap spandex line. I always thought she was referring to/dissing other people/someone else with that line. Like she was bragging about the quality of her dresses, because her uncle Johnny made them, almost like he was/should have been a famous fashion designer and everyone else should have been envious of her because she had exclusive access to his talents. Tina, her mother, said that Johnny was incredibly gifted at fashion and could make exact replicas of anything just from looking at it once.
@SteadyNUnremitting Жыл бұрын
@Keenan Right! That's how it interpreted it, too.
@bperez8656 Жыл бұрын
@@keenan7754 If you listen to some of interviews and award speeches she says Destiny’s child was rejected from every major fashion house for being curvy black girls and that’s why Uncle Johnny continued to sow everything with mom. So she means to point out that people made fun of her for cheap spandex and looking a mess
@keenan7754 Жыл бұрын
@@bperez8656 nah I respectfully disagree😂 but I guess we'll only find out the truth when Giselle releases the visuals. Coz that doesn't make any sense to me. Destiny's Child were rejected from being dressed by those fashion houses because of their race and body types, not because of the clothes they wore. I see it as a diss to other people coz Tina said he was talented AF. I don't think a talented man would have them in cheap spandex. Destiny's Child had some outfits that were a miss in retrospect and maybe even in the then "present" time period in which they were worn, but overall I think they had a decent to good sense of style aesthetic. I don't think the cheap spandex and how she says it is reflective of Uncle Johnny. Especially given that the rest of the song, she shouts out major designer brands and says she has to "cool down" because of them. She's also continuously saying "Uncle Johnny made my dress, fan me off" throughout the whole song in the background vocals. I think she was trying to complement him and say that he was JUST AS GOOD as the rest of the other major labels she shouts out on the song.

I paid them in dust is a gay term, she paid them in dust is basically saying that she doesn’t give them the time of day. 🙏🏾 Uncle Johnny was her real uncle, who the album is dedicated to, he was a gay man who was big in the ballrooms (more black gay culture) he and Bey’s mom HANDMADE all of her Destiny’s Child dresses, hence the line “uncle Johnny made my dress, that cheap spandex she looks a mess.” In America has a problem, she compares herself to crack, she’s basically saying that she’s so bad, that SHE’S America’s problem. Also this is Act 1 of 3, she has 2 more albums for us. 😅

On the “Uncle Johny made my dress” line she is referencing to her own uncle who made her prom dress and made costumes for Destiny’s Child; He was gay and he died of AIDS related illness and she dedicated this album to him. And she was chanting/commentating on this outro a common practice on the ballroom scene.

I still wonder what the following line about "cheap spandex she looks a mess". People anticipated that it would be a bad album because she's been doing it for as long as she has, and she should be overrated I do believe the purpose of those claims is that she shouldn't be celebrated or relevant anymore. I'm happy more people are coming around, so many people bashed this album when it came out and rode the hate train. Now that all the noise had died down certain people can hear and maybe enjoy the album and I think that's what she intended, evidently not having any visuals for the album. I think this is her best work my two favorite songs are plastic off the sofa and Virgo's groove, at their core they are, the signature Beyonce Love ballad-like old songs from Destiny's Child and the Dangerously in Love song and album, Rocket, and several more. I think it's accurate that it is well critically acclaimed by the Metacritic score, however, I'll give people grace in that music is subjective and this album may not be for everyone but it's dishonest to make claims that nothing sounds like old Beyonce in this album.

(This is my third comment in minutes in this video, sorry. I'm hyped up again bcoz of your reaction) Not sure if you've reacted to Beyoncé's live performances but if I may suggest, please do. Here are some if you don't mind (I'll put a lot for future reference): Stevie Wonder Tribute If I Were A Boy (Live at the Grammys) Lemonade Medley (Live at the Grammys) AOL Sessions Lemonade Medley (Live at the Grammys) Listen Live On Oprah Crazy in Love (Live at The Beyoncé Experience Tour) Sweet Dreams & Dangerously in Love Medley (Live at Wynn Vegas) Freakum Dress (Live at I Am World Tour) Crazy In Love (Live at I Am World Tour) Thank you. Take as much time as you need. This can be the Q1-Q2 reactions lol.

I've been to her on the run tour, but now that I think about it that's the only time I've seen her perform live, even if it's on youtube. Might have to react now lol. (also, on the run tour was a top 2 concert ever)
