Concur completely with your review, both in terms of overview and nuance. Thanks for it. Well done. It encompasses my exact reaction to a new record harkening back to a succinct and successful style previously showcased by Real Estate - yet different enough to remain interesting as well as engaging. Melodies for which to die. Hooks abounding. The backing vocals seem stronger and more varied. The engineering and production are immaculate, fully worthy of that hallowed RCA studio. Good ghosts in that place. I catch glimpses of not just Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, but the Feelies, Big Star, the Church, Crowded House … and Courtney playing a lot of acoustic lends itself to a folk-country context within all that jangly dream pop. Pretty much right up my alley. Best album since Atlas, though there were many cuts on In Mind I quite liked. Nice to have Real Estste back and in good form.

Too soft & sunny this thing - needs more rock'n'roll bite

It does lack a bit of that edge from their first couple.

I'm a HUGE fan of RE. After listening to the early release of "Water Underground", I was kind of afraid of this new sound from them. Usually I'll wait to get my RE feels during the fall but I'm slightly disappointed so far. Granted I've only dug into the first 4 songs, but something is missing for me. To me it sounds like an album from your favorite band that is leaving me behind to be stuck in blissful past experiences. Less indie sounds, more polished, blandish and too twangy. I miss my groovy bass lines, euphoric sunny dream pop psych surfer vibes to connect to my Universe. I feel as though I have no choice but to move on like everything else in my life. I'll come back to it late summer to see if I'll get it fully like the last album. Thank for letting me vent. Like your channel!
