God DAMM 1988 was a killer year for albums! We had no idea how lucky we were to be music consumers back then.

The one and only time I saw Prince live was on that 1988 tour. I think you're right about Lovesexy being his last classic - although i kinda dig the symbol album from '92

I didn’t like the direction he took with Diamonds and Pearls and pretty much ignored the symbol album after hearing the singles. I’ll have to check it out more.

What a pick When 1 was 16 i was really getting in to music . I knew the name Lou Reed and i picked up Rock and Roll Diary Boy was i not ready for Heroin , The Kids , Street Hassle and everything else Double Album VU and solo work It changed me and my idea of music

15 is when I picked up The Velvet Underground, thinking it was the first album I had heard so much about and White Light/White Heat the same day. Loved the 3rd record. Only really liked The Gift of WL/WH initially. By 16/17 I was a major fan of the band.

i had a friend who had "lovesexy" with individual CD tracks which made him seem god-like to me when you were 16. my younger brother who you remind me of due to near identical musical tastes persuaded me that axl's "prostitute" and "catcher in the rye" were worthy of the g'n'r period you discuss here and i actually enjoy them more as well as some of the use your illusion songs...when you were 17, prince produced "the future" which i care about greatly. plenty of great live shows if the album masterpieces dried up. prince's plane landed after accidental OD on my brother's 40th birthday. (TMI)? obviously the next week didn't improve his spirits!

I didn’t realize until years later that Lovesexy was all one track on CD because I had the cassette and never had the CD. I tend to listen to full albums anyway, but that still would have annoyed me. I haven’t heard Chinese Democracy since it came out but remember it being better than people said it was. I think there’s a great single 45 minute album that could be pulled from the Illusions. I just can’t stand all of the crazy things Axl did to the Illusions, weird vocal effects, “My World,” etc. The “new” old songs they’ve been releasing sound absolutely horrible to me…vocals and production. Prince…yeah, that one hit me hard too.
