Well done, you have the voice, the knowledge, and the tempo to keep a listener/leaner follow along easily. Nice work and a good educator also.

Albums are an awesome feature in ON1 and I love using them. I think you will find them very useful.

Thanks for the video, I’m a brand new ON-1 user leaving Lightroom after 18 years! BTW yes Lightroom does let you do this except rather than Albums, they call them Collections and Collection Sets. A collection set is like your parent folder and it contains collections aka albums.

Welcome to the ON1 family, and thank you for clearing up the naming for collections and albums. I know the change from LrC to ON1 may be a little different, but I think you will find it a very simple workflow. If you have any questions about ON1 and how you can get a similar workflow as in LrC, just let me know. I can't promise all of the thing in LrC will transfer to ON1, but many of the things are in there.

Lightroom has Collection Sets and Collections for nesting... and the nested Collections can be shared

That is an advantage then for LrC. The sync connection is better than ON1 360 too

Many thanks for all the great videos. Discovered it recently. Question - How do you back the album structure and links so that it can be restored if for example I need to inston1 on a new computer?
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. To backup your data in ON1 you will go to file and then scroll to the bottom of the menu to select Back Up. That should back up all of your albums since those are just digital containers in ON1. Then once you have your fresh install on the new computer, you can click File---> Restore back up. I have not tested this out, but that is my understanding of the process. If you test this out, would you mind updating me on the accuracy of this option?

Many thanks for your quick response. Will give it a test and revert.

Thanks for the video. I’m using albums, I find this very useful. However, I have a question: is there a reason for choosing the photos in the browse and not in the catalogs ? Thanks already for your answer.
@FreeWillPhotos3 ай бұрын
Catalog images will load faster than the photos in the browse tab. If you have just a few folders cataloged and you want to get those images edited, you should use the catalog tab. I use the browse tab because I have the root folder of my images cataloged. This means all of the images I open in ON1 are cataloged.

Great contentmy friend as usual. So are albums where we can store ON1 files for each image one is editing instead of having them on the same file as the image itself? I actually hate having ON1 file in the same physical location as the RAWs but I think ON1 refer to that as Sidecar folder… not sure actually. Thanks for any clarification ✌️
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
Albums are workspaces that just help you organize photos in ON1. It does not add an additional file along side the image to the best of my knowledge, but the only way you can view an album is by opening ON1. The main reason to use albums is to organize photos in a common area that makes it easier to work on images that are stored in multiple folders. An example would be creating a calendar and you want to include photos from different seasons. Assuming you store your winter photos in a separate folder than your summer or spring photos, using an album would help you combine those images into one are without having to move their physical location. I hope this helps.

Very useful. I've decided to start using albums much more that I do now. A side question: where can I see the total numbers of photos I have in ON1? (does it have that function?) Thanks again, keep those videos coming!
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and I love to hear that you will start using Albums more often. I will keep making content and hopefully helping the people that view it. To answer your question, I am not sure of a simple way of searching for that data, but here is what I would suggest you try. Also I would mention that since you don't actually load images into ON1, you are just checking the hard drive what the files are saved. Give this a shot: 1. Click on the magnifying glass in the left pane 2. In the Source box select "Search all photos" 3. In the Search Criteria box select "All of the following rules" 4. Add the "everything" field 5. Type in a period in the box This should pull all of your images since they all have a file name with a period in it. Look up in the top right corner and you should see a count of images. This in theory represents all of the images that ON1 has visibility of. Keep in mind that if all of your images are in one folder, you should change the Source location to that folder. I hope this helps.

@@FreeWillPhotos Thanks, I tried that and didn't have success (maybe it's me!) I reached out to ON1 support. They said: "You can only see full image count if you have cataloged all your images/folders. Only then would you be able to see a total count". Thanks again.
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
Sorry it didn't work for you in that way. I guess I do have my images cataloged so thats why it worked for me. I work from a cataloged folder and I import to the same folder, so new images are cataloged automatically. I may have to do a video on that to show the Pros and Cons of cataloging images. Thanks for sharing your feedback.

I'm interested in Cloud Sync, but ON1 still will not let me sync sub-albums, unless I'm missing something. Example; An album called Portfolio, and sub-albums for Landscape, portrait, etc. This is a really necessary feature that they have received many requested for since the beginning.
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
Yea they should allow for synch album sub album synching, but they also need to get there cloud service to be a lot faster. It is the slowest option available right now. Considering they are a small company I give some grace but when you compare them to other companies they are really far behind.
@marcrjacobs2 жыл бұрын
@@FreeWillPhotos If being a small company is an excuse for them, they should offer prices lower than the big boys, not higher.
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
I could understand that. I guess all I am saying is that I can respect a small company trying to provide an option that the photo editing world really needs. They don't have the same level of robust teams to develop multiple things at once. ON1 360 will likely get better, but it may take some time to do so. Not being able to sync a sub album is an annoyance, but is not a huge deal breaker. As for the price, I think many customers of ON1 will be split on that. I know the team at ON1 is aware of it, and they have their reasons, but as the consumer, the decision is in your hands to purchase or pass. Sadly, I think there will be a lot of people that pass and miss out on the positive things that ON1 offers.

I have started using albums because of this video. Thanks for doing this. I would like to stack several shots of the moon to improve the detail. Similar to what I have seen done in photoshop using individual images as layers. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks for what you do.
@FreeWillPhotos2 жыл бұрын
Hey Doug, that is awesome to hear you are using albums! As for your question on stacking images, the short answer is yes you can do something similar but I wouldn't recommend ON1 for that task. I will share how you could do it, but I think you would want to use something like Affinity Photo instead because you will need some advanced layer alignment. But here is how I would attempt to address this. 1. Select all of the images I want to stack in the browse module 2. Click on the Layers icon to the right of the browse module 3. Go to layer and then select align visible layers 4. Start merging the photos with blend modes 5. Create a stamped layer of all the images blended 6. Edit the stamped layer I hope this helps! Good luck

@@FreeWillPhotos thank you for your help. If this doesn't work I will look into affinity.

The problem with ON1 photo raw is that if you ever change the structure or folder names within a catalog or move anything, the albums lose track of the photos. I'm really hesitant to invest much time organizing photos based on 6 months of using this product. is it me or is there a solution to this?
@FreeWillPhotos Жыл бұрын
Yea that is a valid point. I have not found a way to make the photos Auto Sync when you move the folder, but this is the same issue that happens in LrC too. The way I like to explain this issue is, I give you an address to my business and a few years later I move to a new location, I would have to give you my new address so you can find me again. The same thing happens with our photos in folders and albums. The album copies the known address at the time it was created and if the source moves, you have to relink them so the album knows where the new address is. I hope this helps.
