What a year! 1) The While Album 2) Music from Big Pink 3) Odessey and Oracle 4) Beggar's Banquet 5) Child is Father to the Man Of those first 3 so so close. Yes, The Beatles are not really a group by this time, but so many great songs. Big Pink is such a wonderful song cycle, and the aura around it. Odessey is just so entrancing. "Time of the Season" is about my sixth or 7th favorite on the album. Also "Bookends" "Sweetheart", " Village Green " "Lady Soul", " Astral Weeks", "White Light", " Dock of the Bay"...

@@TastesLikeMusic Guess it's tough to cover everything but you do say you have covered everything in the video but you forgot this one. Interesting The Byrds don't show up on anybody's list apart from Sweetheart (which is really a Gram Parsons album) for Albums of The 1960s ! But credit to you Joe for having Mr Tambourine Man on your songs of the year list (as well as Hickory Wind) and shame on Kram and Jason. Mr Tambourine Man must be one of the most seminal songs ever recorded. That Rickenbacker intro must have sounded like the future in April 1965. And Jason, The Beatles certainly thought so as its influence is all over Rubber Soul and their future output. The Byrds are not regarded as a great albums band. It seems The Stones, The Beach Boys and The Beatles always get top billing in the 60s but I would consider The Byrds among that group. Notorious is a GREAT album and their others are very good.

Sooo, one of you doesn’t think electric ladyland is worthy of top 5 eh? This is got to be top 10 all-time period. I always thought the white album was overrated. Good album ? Sure, but good lord there’s enough dang songs on it, isn’t there? I actually like electric ladyland better than are you experienced. Less hits but more creative I think. And 3rd year in a row, no Cream, interesting. Not saying I disagree but interesting. Always thought Clapton and the boys were slightly overrated. Maybe you 3 agree with me🤨

Begin by The Millennium is a fantastic psychedelic pop album. Great melodies and harmonies so well worth a listen to any Beach boys or Zombies fans. At the time it was the most expensive album ever recorded, and it shows!

Oddessey, White album, Astral Weeks, Village Green, Notorious Byrd, Traffic’s second album, Beggars, Big Pink. The White album is objectively the best but all are equally great in my books. Oddessey is probably the best pop/psych album ever. Astral Weeks sounds like it was made on another planet. Oddessey and Weeks are in my top 10. VG is the Kinks best and Beggars is the Stones best. Traffic ‘68, White and Village Green are my top 20 of all time. Beggars and Big Pink in top 30. Kramz, once you watch Coming Home you’d get the impact of Beggars Banquet. What a great year

A difficult year for me to assess, reflecting on 1968 generates no great love for the admittedly crucial albums released then (and there are key works like 'S.F. Sorrow' by the Pretty Things that I have yet to experience). I feel more enthusiasm for 1967 and 1969. But I would like to contribute to this topic, so here are my choices, listed alphabetically by title: --'The Beatles' by the Beatles (a classic and pioneering exercise in experimental rock, with several beloved songs like "Blackbird") --'Beggars Banquet' by the Rolling Stones (opening track "Sympathy for the Devil" remains one of the band's signature numbers) --'Cheap Thrills' by Big Brother and the Holding Company (classic powerhouse vocals by the great Janis Joplin, always soulful and heartelt, and with "Summertime" an especial standout track) --'Electric Ladyland' by the Jimi Hendrix Experience (essential work from Hendrix, the single most influential guitarist in rock history, with "Voodoo Chile" an outstanding track) --'Odessey and Oracle' by the Zombies (most important release by this group, with "Time of the Season" an enduring Sixties classic)

I don’t like Van Morrison as is, but eughhh…I really disliked Astral Weeks and borderline hated it. It’s meandering and overly-long and his voice (especially Beside You) is just unbearable. Above all, with the exception of maybe Young Lovers Do, it’s missing pretty much any melody at all. I don’t get how that album is moving to anyone and definitely one of the most overrated albums ever imo.

Beggars Banquet is my favourite Stones album, just edging out Sticky Fingers. Possibly because it was one of the first albums I ever owned as a young teen, but it also seemed to encapsulate the era of the British 1960s I’d missed out on (too young). Astral Weeks is surely one of the greatest albums ever. You can’t argue too much about the White Album though…

Beggars and the White Album are clearly the best 2 for me. Beggars has no weak tracks and a couple of all- time great songs like Sympathy and Street Fighting Man. Hendrix just missed my list.

'Led Zeppelin' by Led Zeppelin was a 1969 release, though admittedly recorded in 1968. The guys on 'Tastes Like Music' privilege the year of release in making their compilations.

For me, there are some duds on The White Album - Octopus's Garden anyone? The album is a bit all over the place and doesn't really fit together so well. There are undeniably a lot of great songs on the White Album, but it's not cohesive and it's not their best work lyrically. You can kind of feel the band going their separate ways. I'm disappointed that Astral Weeks makes only one list. There was nothing remotely like it before or since. From a lyrical, experimental, and cohesion standpoint, as well as just standing the test of time, Astral Weeks kind of stands alone as the best album of 1968 IMHO.

Purple's debut "Shades of Deep Purple" was really interesting. The sound was influenced by bands like the american outfit Vanilla Fudge. Hush was the standout track (with an outstanding organ solo by Jon Lord.) Blackmore and Lord were already experienced musicians by this point and even Ian Paice (who was only about 19/20) had already learned his craft on the circuit. The album cover was hilarious (with the band members sporting huge bouffants and frilly shirts).

It's lucky this is like the 10th video of yours I've watched now, and I'm hooked, because my finger did hover over the unsubscribe button with all that crazy talk about the Stones back catalogue, and Beggars at the end. Kinks and Village Green were released on the same day. They are my two favorites. Main difference? The White Album probably sold more copies on the first day that Village Green sold in total - a complete commercial flop.

Oh my word, makin my way thru the history of rock with the fellas. Started with '65 and gonna watch all the AOTY shows in one sitting. Just kidding. But had to pause to say i am super happy that Jason acknowledged my All-Time Favorite Album by my All-Time Favorite Artist, ASTRAL WEEKS by VM. Ah 68...an important year to me for one album in particular that will always win due to its creative and taste influence on me ....my other pics will be obvious.... 4 Electric Ladyland...Hendrix... .awarded most listened to album on my list 2 White Album Beatles 3 Wheels of fire Cream 5 The Bonniwell Music Machine (or The Music Machine).....ok their first album was fab but this one has great stuff too... 1 The United States Of America by The USofA....still to me the most important psychedelic album in music history....and beautiful Bit of a blip year for me..... on the grounds for albums really studied by me...so no special mentions...the famous ones mentioned I've somehow avoided listening to properly.....alot if the artists I have best ofs... .oh well🤔
