Hi, nice list! I wasn't expecting Paradise Lost to be so low on your list, but i get the reason why. Symphony X is an odd fellow, because it's easy to get into the band, but is not really that easy to dig the albums or songs. I think this is because, most songs have catchy elements, while having technical guitar playing and complex structures, so it's pretty hard to really get into some of their songs without listening to them many times. It happened to me the first Time i listened to Paradise Lost or Underworld... nothing wrong with those albums, all songs were good, but the album just ended and most of it felt like "white noise" at first. After a while (took me many listens) i got into those albums and i ended up enjoying every minute and loving both of them! Have a nice day pal!

Man, you gotta give Candlelight Fantasia a chance. Sure, it's overshadowed by DWoT, but it's easily one of the most beautiful pieces of Symphony X's catalogue. It's a perfect blend of everything Symphony X is.

Loved listening to your perspectives about the albums. Fun stuff! I discovered Symphony X when I was 15 and that kicked off three years of being addicted to listening them. I worshipped Michael Romeo and learned 10+ Symphony X songs on the guitar. Their music is awesome but they missed the boat on the resurgence of prog metal in the 2010s. Haven't listened to them in years because my music tastes have expanded but they're great song writers.

Haha that sounds like me when I discovered Rhapsody in 2013 - listened to nothing else for virtually a whole year 😂 such a shame that symphony x are a forgotten about band - they have some incredible moments!

@@RustyDarlington Broooooooo I remember when they were called Rhapsody of Fire and my brother and I thought their song with Christopher Lee was the most epic and cheesiest thing on the planet. Haha, good memories!

Do you own any of their albums?. I only have a CDR of " The Odyssey ', but its been played plenty of times. Very interesting but underappreciated band. I don't see much of their music around, at least not here in N.Z. They are definately getting into Prog. territory when the songs are longer than 10 minutes. Good idea to rank!.

I really need to give these guys a chance. I've heard little chunks here and there. Everything I've heard sounds like Yngwie, who I do like, but can only take so much.
@RustyDarlington2 ай бұрын
Yeah I get that but I feel like there’s a lot more craftsmanship in Symphony’s solos. Yngwie will just shred through scales and be very classical about it. I feel Micheal’s playing is more musical and memorable 😂

@@RustyDarlington I've only heard a couple of things from very early in their career. I'm sure (or at least hoping) that he would have evolved a bit since then.

@@RustyDarlington Listened to The Odyssey about an hour ago. I was very impressed. Much better than whatever it was that I had heard from them back in the 90s. Definitely going to check out more of their stuff now.

1. V: The New Mythology Suite (2000) 2. Twilight In Olympus (1998) 3. The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1996) 4. Iconoclast (2011) 5. The Odyssey (2002) 6. Paradise Lost (2007) 7. Underworld (2015) 8. The Damnation Game (1995) 9. Symphony X (1994)

Wow, you have Twilight higher than Odyssey and Divine? That's crazy. Twilight has its moments, but after Divine it was a step backwards sounding more like Damnation Game. The production is bad and even the band said the album was rushed.

Paradise Lost at 8?!?? You lost me after that bro. How on earth is the debut over that one? LOL
