fresh out of the navy, 1971, I was dealing with leaving the navy and coming home to my dad's house broke. i was going to trade school but wanted to move out of dad's house again. that's one reason i joined the navy. I applied at the albuquerque police dept. took tests they did background and told me that i could start academy when it started a new class in a few months. In the mean time met a couple of albuquerque cops and started to hang out with them. when the dude from the police called me to report to the academy I told him i had made friends with a couple of local cops and hung out with them and decided for my own good i would not become a cop. I am the type of fellow that will run with the crowd, and don't think my moral compass is strong enough to resist temptations of the job. Every cop i met would tell stories of how they would jack construction sites, by having one of their fellow cops on duty cruising the area while they stole the tools and building materials. they did part time work as bouncers, and were getting "tips" from the hookers and strippers. They have no friends that aren't cops. I f you want a gun or an engine for your car, or a fake drivers liscence, the cops are the ones to call. They even get credit cards and drivers identification from dead folks from the ambulance drivers. they have a crime family there. Left albuquerque in 89. i could see it was going from a pretty nice place to live to what you have there today. I don't regret not becoming a cop or leaving albuquerque 32 years ago.

John, very informative story, and you are correct, a friend I grew up with became a police officer for beaumont texas, before long his only Friends were all police officers. Police lie to courts. Tricked me to go to court for 2 years to oppose ex parte order for psych eval. Refused under 5th amendment and illegal order. Kidnapping other witnesses to psych units. 60 thefts in 7 mo period w witnesses and fingerprints not investigated 2015. That sounds about right. I live here. I LOVE this city, love the people, the weather, the culture, art, mountains, everything, but yes, APD is 100% the biggest gang in the city. Growing up I actually thought that the cops were the good guys. After living here for 22 years I don't trust any cops here in town. I don't even have a criminal record and I stay away from them as much as possible because they are corrupt. Cops here are really into the concept of escalate a situation, shoot first, brag about your macho criminal act on camera, then turn your camera off the second you remembered it was still recording you. They also have a nasty habit of beating their domestic partners and driving drunk. Or they make themselves a party to it when they don't arrest the cop they caught doing the crime. Once they lie down in the dirt with them, they are just as corrupt as the one that commited the crime.

I was always told it stemmed from an incident in the early 80s in which a girl was intentionally drowned by another group of girls at a public pool. The city got sued; and thus immediately implemented one of the strictest set of standards for lifeguards in the country. One lawsuit results in the implementation of the toughest standards possible for lifeguards - yet a gazillion lawsuits against police officers and they still let pretty much anyone with a pulse be a cop?

So, I was deported to UK despite a mother of three us born sons. I ran a daycare, paid taxes, mortgage and insurances. Daughter of a naturalised father and late us born grandfather. Living in ABQ, I was once stopped while turning left at an intersection for "my brake lights being too bright." Another time I saw someone coming up behind me at an incredibly fast speed. He then proceeded to tailgate me. When I changed lanes so did he, three times. I thought it was a road rager so I sped up to get away from him, he followed me still tailgating. The light up ahead was red and I didn't know what to do. Just at that time, the lights went on. It was a cop. He gave me a ticket for speeding and when I explained that I thought he was a road rager, he started yelling at me that no matter what happens, you cannot speed. Once, I called APD for assistance to remove a trespasser from my property and when the cop arrived, he asked if he could come into my house. I refused and told him I have panic attacks and didn't like people near me or in my house. He got angry and kept ordering me out. I again declined and told him the trespasser was in my garage so he could perform his duty from outside. He just kept getting angrier and kept ordering me out of my house. I told him I was going to call an attorney for advice and only then did he remove the trespasser. I called for a supervisor who then threatened to arrest me. Even a call to Internal Affairs was met with deaf ears. I could tell you more. Way more! A survey conducted by the local paper showed that only 36% of ABQ citizens had any confidence in APD. They executed many people. Most people here have not gotten over their arrogance, antagonism, and violence. Their lawlessness went on for far too long before they were finally put under a DOJ consent decree for their "pattern and practice of using force including lethal force." The one thing the Obama administration did right was for the DOJ to investigate and try to reign in violent police departments around the country. Trump stopped that, but I hope Biden continues what Obama did in this case.

I am a blind individual that lives in Albuquerque. I remember when this incident happened very clearly. I myself am terrified of the police every time I know that one is nearby. I even have a cop in my church, and even then I am cautious whenever I am around the individual. He seems like a nice enough of a guy, but then again I'm sure those guys in this video we're agreeable enough when you are socializing with them. Unfortunately, when they put on their uniforms they forget who they are, who they are supposed to serve, and what that bad really means when you pin it to your chest. The officers of Albuquerque New Mexico conduct themselves as though they were an occupying force on foreign soil. They operate like tyrannical Rogue cops on a regular basis, and it is not only tolerated but it is encouraged unfortunately. It is a shame that you get away with murder just because you wore a uniform at one point. It is not fair. When you are an officer of the law you are held to a higher standard, and answer a hired penalty when you fall short of the mark. It is absolutely disgraceful the way things have become in the state of New Mexico. Even the children at the public schools are afraid of the cops that walk around the property with a gun on their hip. I do not feel comfortable having armed police officers patrolling our Public Schools. I am just as cautious of local law enforcement as I am these lowbrow knuckle-dragging Street trash that also carry guns. Everywhere I go everybody seems to have a gun, and they love to waive it about. I remember when a man could be a man without a gun or a uniform...

Hi, just to clarify - his family did not throw him out at all. He suffered from severe mental disabilities and lived the way he did (kinda) by choice. He would take off and be gone for months and eventually years at a time with minimal contact with his family from his end. His family sometimes didn't know where he was and when/if they did locate him, they did everything they could to try to connect with him again and make sure he was okay, knew where he was, offered help etc. It gets tricky when you have a situation with someone who has mental/emotional disabilities and are adults because they have the right to leave and live their lives away from their family (whether the family agrees with that or not) and so long as they don't pose an immediate harmful threat to themselves or anyone else. I am almost too embarrassed to admit that I live in ABQ, about 1.5 miles away from where this all took place and it was such an awful situation that definitely could've and should've been been handled better.

In saying this, we have had a few cases, over many a year, of people being shot and killed by police, though it is infrequent thank goodness ...... We are not a gun nation, to have/own a gun here in the UK you have to have a license and a very good reason to obtain that licence. Yes, there are guns in drug neighbourhoods but that is mostly where they stay and are used on each other, America on the other hand seems to think it's ok for anyone and everyone to own and have a gun or two or three etc ....

I feel so sorry for the American community when they can not trust the very people who are meant to uphold decency and trust but would rather treat the public as all being in need of a beating or worse being shot dead etc ... keep safe Ashley and your family and friends .... footnote:- our police aren’t squeaky clean when it comes to decency, they too have slid down the slippery slope of decency and trust. Ours have an air about them of unhealthy superiority and suspicion, even if it’s only asking for directions some view you as a person who could be a criminal, that’s if one can find one to ask, as they’re mostly in cars now and have been for a long time ... but, in saying that, we do have a Police Complaints Commission that is meant to look into public v Police interaction and any wrong doings done by the police in their line of duty to the public etc ... the Commission is not 100% infallible though, one takes their chances with it and see how it goes .......

Everyone of these television shows (tv) as this show should do something like a every 3 to 5 + year follow up on these particular officers, police force and the town or city that tv show was based in. As a legal everyday working tax-paying American american should no where these people are especially if they are still working for the police force or the United States Government 👍🇺🇸

Letting the dog attack that man, was beyond their already evil actions. The man wasn't moving. Yet no one stopped the dog. PS. See, it's not just black men who suffer such horrors.
