ALC SightHD ALC-AWF50 Review

I received this camera to evaluate.
This is a very easy camera to use. It connects to your home wi-fi and allows you to see real time video from your computer, or phone, or tablet. You can also view video saved in the camera if you inserted a micro SD card (sold separately). If you read the manual and check your settings all will go well. The camera came with letter from the manufacturer stating it was preset for outdoors, as this was an issue with some people who did not read the manual. I had bad video quality, checked the camera, and it was set for indoors. Point is, check your menu to make sure it is set up correctly. Overall I am pretty pleased with the performance. It isn't perfect but it has a lot of features for the money.
Pros: Easy to set up
Works good getting video to my phone
I can see the video anywhere I get a good wi-fi signal
Cons: Video quality not as good as I had liked, especially in low light.
Wi-fi doesn't always work perfect. Lots of reconnecting.

Might not be about this camera, but I just got the AWF53 Outdoor Pan-Tilt Camera. Not happy. No way of finding its IP address. Was gonna use it in conjunction with Blue Iris software for easier PTZ operation. Can only access it with the app shown here.

I have yet to find ANY software that works with an ALC awf5+ series camera. even using direct IP from the router. Avoid this camera unless your fine useing bluestacks to emulate an android OS. Will not work on a chromebooks. Puts me in a turn on GPS loop. No GPS on chromebooks.

Thanks for the video. Thinking about getting this. One question I have: Does the push notifications/live video work via the mobile app if I would be at work away from my home Wi-Fi signal? Thanks

It works, but sort of intermittently. Much depends on your internet connection (both your phone and your camera). It actually get sort of annoying if you have lots of motion in front of your cam. Plus, the replay feature seems a little buggy and crashes (for me anyway) a lot.

You can pull the memory card and view the recording off of that, or possibly the app. I don't have this cam any more so I am not sure.

Thank you for the video. The only question I have is do I need Wi-Fi at my home to run this or does it use the internet through my phone? I was told I didn't need Wi-Fi at my home to use it, and that I just need a Wi-Fi connection to watch it away from my home. I'm so confused. Can you please help? Thank you

You have to have wifi at your house. The camera will link into your home network, and then you can use your phone remotely to see what your camera sees. It definitely will NOT work without a home wifi system in place.

You should call the manufacturer. They were very helpful when I called them.
