Livonia Avon & Lakeville RR 20 is fired up for the first time this season at the Rochester Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Sorry about the lower quality, my hands were too greasy for my good camera! www.rgvrrm.org/

I love the sound of the Buchi turbocharger! It sounds like a canary in the engine.

I am also similarly slow to get going first thing in the morning. Glad to see there are some good old Alco RS's still around and in running condition.

I've always liked how rustic the RS1 appears. They would perfect on a logging railroad.

You are correct also the freezing Arctic conditions in Russia because the US government sent them to Russia as part of Lend Lease

The old TEM 2 class switcher shows its Alco pedigree.

My son really likes trains especially Alco's like that one. He says many people like them because they are not as common and are built real rugged.

Ah, LA&L #20. She doesnt quite like being started cold, but is a wonderful locomotive regardless!

If you look at Russian switcher locomotives from the Soviet Era they almost resemble the RS1 Alco locomotives because the US sent them over to Russia as part of Lend Lease.

Delivered to the Chicago and Western Indiana, sold to Genesee & Wyoming in 1971 to Eastman Kodak (probably Eastman Chemical/Kingsport TN) before ending up here.

One by one, worn out cylinders, fed by dribbling injectors, come to life again...maybe. The Buchi-Elliot turbo helps as much as it can.

Thank you for sharing. I believe they just donated this unit?

This locomotive was donated about 10 years ago. You are probably thinking about the other Alco, which is very similar that was donated a few months ago.

Only if you take something actually damaging like every single interstate highway along with it. Then we might actually see a difference
