Thank you for this video! I had a bad relationship with alcohol for over a decade. I thought I "needed" it to sleep. Around my 40th birthday I realized I didn't recognize myself anymore when I looked in the mirror. It was like someone came along and stole my beauty. In addition to the weight gain, bloated face, dull eyes, and all that. I quit drinking in Jan 2022, and I am now 43. I get comments from people thinking I am much younger than I am, and I have been able to lose the extra 40 lbs. I had accumulated from wine, vodka, and the horrible food choices that go along with that. Funny enough, I wouldn't want to feel drunk anymore for anything in the world. And the sleep, oh the sleep! Giving up alcohol was the best thing I ever did for myself, and quite honestly, my family and friends too. I'm so much more present and engaged.

@@catherinelussier1559 good on you for realizing before I did! The fact that it is on your mind is a good sign… it was on my mind too. I knew I needed to stop. What really sent me was getting my blood pressure at the doctor. Every time I went, it was higher and higher and my cholesterol was high as well. After changing every single thing except drinking, it still wasn’t going down. I just made the decision to try one weekend alcohol free. Instead of the trip down the wine aisle, I went to the soda aisle and got a pack of La Croix. I still lean on sparkling water and Diet Coke. Also, sweets. I never considered myself a dessert person but I let myself eat whatever I wanted, as long as alcohol wasn’t part of the equation. The last thing is stay busy and come up with a routine. I leaned into my nightly epsom salt bath and started a good skin care routine. Last thing is to make plans early the next morning after the nights you would usually drink. A hike while hungover sucks, while a well rested, sober hike feeds the soul. These are just things that worked for me. I wish you all the luck in the world! If I can do it, so can you! 💛

I had a horrible relationship with alcohol (weekend binge drinker) for 10+ years. I am now 12 months sober and man, this was worth it! I will never go back. I used to dream a lot but haven’t had 1 single dream in 10+ years. A few weeks ago, I started dreaming again. That means it took me 11 months of no drinking for my sleep to normalize before I started dreaming again? Is that even possible? I know, my sleep has been f****d up for MANY years, I just didnt think it would take that long. You can tell this woman don’t drink. Her skin is perfection 💯. My skin will prolly never get better from all the abuse it went through with alcohol. Oh well. The feeling alone of being sober is well worth it. Thankfully I wasnt a full blown alcoholic so I didnt have any withdrawals when quitting. I can say though I don’t EVER have any cravings. I also wonder if my brain will heal. I know it has had damage over the years just not sure of the severity. I feel like my dopamine wont ever stabilize though. It had been 12 months and dont think it has yet and prolly wont ever by now.

However one of the things I don't like is it's not discussed what our bodies go thru when stopping, especially the brain. People share "it's all God" which bothers me alot. I am not against religion and am more factual based on why am i not feeling this or that yet and tired of having God thrown in my face. I love ❤️ good beer and wine and tequila but as I’ve gotten older, my body does not! what took me from 5 drinks or more a week to 2 drinks of my choice a month or even none now was the nighttime anxiety after just a couple of drinks! I don’t really feel that much more amazing with super super limited alcohol, but I knew I had to just cut it almost completely out of my life, so I did. That was a year ago. Even with almost no alcohol, I still don’t sleep well. I don’t feel like I had any epiphany or I rose like a phoenix or anything after turning away drinks, but I do feel a little more present In the moment and that’s a plus. The reason I cut way way back is my age and health. I’ll be 60 this year. This is a solid video for those considering what it’s like on the other side, but I think moderate and light drinkers may not get that full host of amazing changes that heavy drinkers get…that said, any positive change is still great! ❤

I wish my 84-year-old mother would stop drinking. Over the last two years there’s been several events that have occurred that are very disturbing to me and my siblings. Last spring, she fell and tore open her knee and now she is in wound care with a wound that refuses to heal, she starts drinking every day about 4 o’clock so I never call her at that time because I just can’t stomach speaking to her when she’s under the influence of several cocktails. She has a lot of health problems. We have encouraged her to go to AA and to try to get sober, but she refuses to do so. It’s very hard to watch you can’t make somebody stop but as I said, it’s very difficult to watch and while we are watching, it’s very difficult to not feel guilty but me and my siblings really don’t know what else to do sometimes I feel like I’m waiting for the bottom to fall out. I thought this fall with the knee and wound injury was it but it is not. She continues to drink.

Thank you so much for the information 🙏. I’m on my recovery journey but I’m finding that I keep going back because I have a spouse who drinks heavily. I know that it is 💯 my decision to drink, and I’m not blaming him, but it also makes it 💯 harder to quit. Do you have any advice?
@PriusTurbo5 ай бұрын
Have your responses prepared ahead of time so you do not get caught off guard. If you know your spouse is going to tempt you to drink, be ready with your reason not to. A favorite phrase of mine is either "not yet, not right now, or not tonight" which disarms the person that wants you to drink. Oftentimes, it seems that people just want to to have the first few drinks with them but they could care less after they've had four or more. Once they catch a solid buzz and stop paying attention to you as much, you have won. So say something like "not tonight, I'm working out/going for a run in the morning". "Not yet, I want to eat dinner first". "Not right now but I might later." It's been my biggest hurdle as well. I just got to a point where I expected the coercion to come eventually and I treated it like a fun game to avoid it because at the end of the day, it's ridiculous for someone to want you to drink. "What? You don't think I'm fun to be around unless I'm drinking?" It's actually a strange concept if other people need you to be intoxicated if they are going to do it. I experience this often in dating and I will just tell the date it's going to make me sleepy, which is true unless I have 5 or 6 drinks. If I can order a soda water with a lime beforehand then no one ever notices or cares. And if I order one among people drinking I can say I'm staying hydrated. If you get to a point where your spouse has to sit you down because he is concerned about your non-drinking.... Well that isn't going to happen! It's your brain, your body, your life. Inspire those around you with your health and keep finding ways to say no without being abrasive.

I do! I think I need to make a video about this but yes I do! My husband still drinks too! In the book Sober Diaries by Clair Pooley she talks about her husband drinking too. Thank you so much for the informative video; it turns me off from drinking. I was drinking a lot more since my mother went to the hospital earlier this year, and then she passed away a month ago. I have been using it to numb my head, which is a bad coping mechanism I’ve used over the years. I recently gained weight too, likely from the alcohol, poor diet choices while drinking, and the sedentary lifestyle as a result of fatigue from the hangovers. I didn’t know it made my sleep apnea worse too! All the more reason to steer clear of this poison. My mother’s passing reminds me of how life is so fragile, and I would like to be here as long as possible, with a healthy body. Tonight is my first night without alcohol.

I stopped for 2 days after drinking really heavy (up to 750ml bottle of vodka night (sometimes 2 of them). About hallucinations, when I stopped, 2 days went by with no sleep (or food)... I decided I needed to wean my way down than quitting cold turkey so I took a couple shots to get to bed finally. I fell asleep, but I woke up a half hour later, my light in my room was on (which is weird because I kept from turning it on to get to sleep) There was a black figure of a person in the corner of my room, it was looking down at all the empty bottles I had collected over the week course of drinking, when I said "wtf?!", it turned around and slowly walked towards me very intimidating with closed fists (I found the look and took pictures of what it looked like and posted it on reddit). I thought it was a burglar that got into my (locked) room, I thought I was going to fight him so I got up and charges at it, only to charge into the air and it disappeared. I've been freaking out at what I saw ever since (this was almost 2 years ago now), and been looking for answers, did I just hallucinate it? Did I tap into another dimension or realm? Was it a spirit? Been asking these questions ever since.
@JamieinjanuaryАй бұрын
This is so interesting. In my logical nursing mind I think you had a hallucination. Matches up with quitting, the time frame, along with no sleep or food. Scary though. So scary. I had a huge surgery when I was 17 and was on a Demerol infusion. I hallucinated sooooooo real! People jumping on my bed. Balloons in my room , water spraying from the ceiling. So real and so scary

@@Jamieinjanuary thanks for the reply :) it was the most surreal thing thats ever happened to me, and ive had some heavy drinking situations in my 20s and early 30s (39 right now). It was a weird way to hallucinate, my eyes were closed but my light was on, since our skin is transparent, i noticed a shadow moving over my face temporarily blocking the light, i knew that was abnormal becaues my room is always locked. It wasnt a dream, but also when i would detox off alcohol, my dreams become very real and crazy like a fever dream, very Lucid because i know im dreaming. thats crazy you had hallucinations like that, makes you wonder if its real but coming from another dimension that you are tapping into, at least thats what it feels like to me.

I’m a 43 year old woman on day 9 AF 🎉 I previously drank 4-5 days a week about 7 drinks per time..wine, beer, shots etc. I’m craving sugar so I’m “allowing” myself Dunkin vanilla lattes once a day..is this a bad thing or can I enjoy this vice for now? 😂. Thank you for your channel ❤

My marriage broke up because I was unimportant compared to drink. The drinker was mad he ruined his body and he got sloppy and lazy. The sloppiness helped me because his brain was mushy and he couldn’t hide his resentment and jealousy. He drinks because because of guilt and boredom. For at least 25 years he hasn’t been able to go 3 days without a drink. None of the physical symptoms have struck him because he’s got one of those perfect bodies. No cavities, no sickness ever, no pain, sleeps and poops anywhere on the minute. But basically it’s a good thing his brain is ⏬️ since it could help with the psychopathy.

The human body is definitely a gift from the universe and the divine spirit and alcohol 🍷 just destroys it and says screw you to the creator who gave you the greatest gift 💝 in the entire cosmos.

One note: Alcohol itself is not high in sugar. Alcohol is high in alcohol, at 7 calories per gram, which makes it the second most calorie- dense calorie source. Alcoholic drinks often have carbohydrate, which is broken down to ‘sugar’. Beer has carbohydrate, wine has some, and mixed drinks are often pure alcohol- vodka, gin, etc- mixed with syrups, pop, juice. The sugar does not come from the alcohol molecule.

There's nothing wrong with alcohol in moderation I am so fed up of people talking about alcohol as if it was really bad only bad if you can't control it so please stop talking the pleasure away from people that enjoy a drink and further more every one knows the ins and outs of drink also of cigarettes just leave people alone to live the lives how they choose so I would appreciate it if you could stop talking about alcohol just if you have a problem than stop taking the pleasure away from people that have it under controll
@Jamieinjanuary5 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I just make content based on what I have researched. People are certainly free to live however they want! NO judgment here!

For those who CAN drink in moderation, its not bad. But for those who, like me, cannot control how much i drink once I start, there's no such thing as moderation.
