Alcohol ink and using metallics, Ranger mixative and Piñata brass.
Finally made a video on using metallics and mixatives.
When I first started doing ink I found metallics fascinating but also very frustrating and difficult.
Took me a long time to sort of get the hang of it - now I'm still no expert but I thought I would share some of things that I have learned about metallics, what works and what doesn't.
I might come up with a few more tips and tricks - if I do, maybe there will be a "part 2".
Like I mentioned in the video Piñata Brass is my absolute favorite.... and Piñata silver is my absolute least favorite.
The Ranger mixatives work fairly well for me, but needs to be handled a bit more carefully and doesn't wort equally well with all colors.
What are your experiences with the different metallics and mixatives - can you make them work the way you want them to.....???
Now as always, if you have any questions please leave a comment and I will try my best to answer you.
I have finally joined Pinterest - just look for "Randi H Art" - not a lot of pins yet but you have to start somewhere.

Re: Pinata Silver, i put down a fade with Copic N8 dried it completely then put a small drop of Pinata Silver on top of the dry fade. I put a couple drops of 99% isopropal alcohol directly on top of the silver which caused it to break up, then tilted to where i wanted it to settle. It worked well doing that.

I wish you would do the same experiment with Ranger or Pinata inks! The Copic inks are VERY different, they have a lot more resin on them. They behave much differently than the more popularly used brands.

Thank you for your response Randi! I can’t seem to find it in the comments section 😅 I’ll buy a bottle of the silver Mixative and give it a try. I’ll have to look through your videos to see which ones you used the silver in to get those beautiful shiny lines. Love all your beautiful work and wonderful tips ☺️

You are amazing, Randi! Thank you for sharing! Can I ask, what is the difference between Ranger Silver mixative and the Foundry Alloy? I want to create bright silver lines (similar to how you achieved it using a tiny dot of the silver locative), but on a bigger scale, as in with bolder, stronger silver ripples. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much! ♥️♥️♥️
@randihart5731
@randihart5731 2 жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry I haven’t answered your comment, I must have missed it 😢 I don’t really work with the Alloys, but I believe you need/have to use blending solution with them. If you want thicker lines you can just use more of the silver or draw them on with a silver marker afterwards. Love Randi 😊

Thanks for sharing this information, I see in different pages blue and silver pieces, and I love them, but it's so frustrating when I've tried to do something like that, now I know why 🤭 I have only tried piñata silver.... 😣. I'm from Chile and here It's so hard to find the materials to work whith alcohol inks and they are so expensive....

You’re very welcome 😊 no I haven’t. With the big bottles you have to shake it for a really really long time... If that doesn’t help at all, try diluting the brass with a little bit of isopropyl before adding to the paper
