My challenge is that I always have another project in mind. In which case when I finish one project my mind says… gee… you could clean OR you could start this other project right away! Guess which choice I always make?

Now that you can often find the canned air in the dollar stores it's a great way to go!

That looks so fun. I'm going to try this with my granddaughters. Of course she will be adding her favorite glitter to the centers.

I used pearlized inks that dried very quickly. I tried 91% Alcohol and didn't get any movement of the colored ink. Then I tried an "extender" and was able to get the ink to move. After the tiles were completely dry, the ink would just come off if I touched them! I didn't know the ink would rub off so easily. ( word of warning to other viewers) I bought the product you suggested to seal them. After a couple coats the ink doesn't rub off anymore. Another issue I had was moisture in the straw that would 'blow out' onto the tile. Any tips on that? It appears you used the same straw the whole time. I had to change straws often to prevent the moisture from getting on the tile. I enjoyed your video, and look for more ideas for the alcohol inks. 😊

Laurie... I haven`t tried the pearlized inks... they sound like they move a little differently than the others - good you found the extender liquid - it can be used in place of the alcohol with any of the inks to extend drying time and help facilitate movement. Until they are sealed you can take an alcohol pad and pretty much remove all of your ink so you definitely have to seal them to use them. as for the straw... I haven`t had a `moisture` build up problem but can see where that could happen, in which case have a couple on hand and switch between them or wipe out with a pipe cleaner every so often. You might find that `fat` straws... like those for bubble tea might capture less moisture in them. Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions, I`m sure your insights will be of benefit to others giving this a try!

Wow Cindy. This is Fantastic. Well, I have to disagree, You look pretty professional in this craft to me. TYFS. I'm thinking on this. Xmas ornaments would be Great. (Pauline S)

Ahhh, Pauline... you're too kind! I'm getting better but it is a very different thing thinking about how to move the inks with air instead of just painting them on with a brush... but super fun! And... just wait until you see the ornaments!

Beautiful coasters! Are the coasters heat resistant? What is the name of the spry?
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Virginia! They are just fine for home use with the Polycrylic spray - protects the alcohol ink finish just fine. If you were looking at doing this for reselling I would suggest finishing with a resin instead.

Do you need to seal this to use it in the kitchen as a trivet?
@QueenBeeCreations

I would seal it with an epoxy resin…. I have other alcohol ink coaster videos where I do just that…. Much more heat resistant.

Just an fyi to your viewers and yourself. Tim Holtz recommends NOT using a straw as there is resin/chemicals in these and when you inhale, you inhale them and can damage your lungs.
@QueenBeeCreations

It's good to point out for those that don't know, thank you! - I don't inhale through the straw, just exhale... but worth mentioning to others. When I do a class we definitely speak of this!

There are triangle D-ring picture hangers with a long metal tab.... the tab is for screws but is long enough to easily glue down with the appropriate glue/contact cement on the back of your tile. Like this... amzn.to/3ry02FG I would also put small rubber bumpers on the bottom two corners to prevent the tile from scratching your wall paint. Like this... amzn.to/3OeLYda

Hello, could you use a hairdryer if you don't have a heat gun? Obviously not close up though :-)
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations 2 жыл бұрын
There are small hair dryers that work - especially if you can set them on a low-blow rather than full blasting. Make sure that you blow it around the outside of the ink so it helps dry it... not blow it around!

The ink I put in middle spread out to size of a nickel. Did I do something wrong
@QueenBeeCreations
@QueenBeeCreations Жыл бұрын
No! On tile some inks will spread far more than others. You can try adding a 'smaller' amount or have your heat gun going to swirl around it almost immediately to dry it in place. Or... just layer your new colours around the edges of it and have that center colour blow out with them to add an additional colour dimension. Nothing is ever 'wrong', just different than you expected!

Mary... the stamps I used are from IOD (Iron Orchid Designs)... called Sprigs. I sell them in my shop but you could also get them through any IOD retailer.

What type of marker are you using?

A gelly pen. You don`t want to use an alcohol based marker. That way you don`t disturb your design.
