@tranquilrabies4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't really like the way that question is asked in the first place.
@clairelumiere29014 жыл бұрын
It was a legitimate question since being a victim and victim mentality are two different things. Notice she had no problem with Mark asking her that question (5:06), thinking carefully before replying, “I used to”. Mark is trying to help so don’t make stuff up that he’s “shaming” her.
@clairelumiere29014 жыл бұрын
@Go To Bed Mark is capable of saying wrong things, but this is not one of them. It is possible to not be a true victim & have a victim mentality, and also possible to be a true victim & not have a victim mentality. She was a victim & she said she used to have a victim mentality, but now she doesn’t. That is useful psychological information to know if one wants to help her. She knew what he meant & took no offense, so why are you?
@clairelumiere29014 жыл бұрын
@Go To Bed One definition of victim mentality is “a psychological term that refers to a type of dysfunctional mindset which seeks to feel persecuted in order to gain attention or avoid self-responsibility.” I knew an alcoholic with that mentality who constantly blamed his ex-wife or his ex-boss for problems in his life to gain my sympathy & deny any accountability for the role he played in those negative outcomes. It’s a conviction that the life is out of their control & the world is out to get you. This is separate from being a victim which is just where “a person has suffered from a destructive or injurious action/agency.” If you see yourself as a survivor it’s unlikely you hold a victim mentality-congrats on that.

Imesha's story is heart breaking. Having a mother that physically, emotionally & psychologically abuses her own daughter is such a traumatic way to start off life on this Earth. Especially difficult to hear was that she was raped at the tender age of 6 and when she attempted to tell her only protector in her family, her mother, she was verbally shamed & that just tripled the horrific trauma of the event. I empathize with her life story & know the feeling of never being able to trust people as they always seem to betray kindness. The endless cuts of life's hurts manifest in buried anger & resentment which is displayed outwardly in fighting & short temper. It's amazing how soft a strong woman like Imesha becomes just by spending a few minutes with a total stranger that shows kindness, empathy & support.

My mom is an alcoholic and even though I have to keep my distance from her since from time to time she tells me stuff like "I wish you were dead" , I have really gotten to a point in which I forgive her and always remind her I forgave her as she struggles now to forgive herself. I feel like she doesn't want to change her lifestyle but, now as I struggle with depression, I understand how she got to the point she did. Nobody gave her any tools and she just felt alone in her inner battles. It's so important to hear people, their story and struggles.

She Got One Thing Right “DON’T TRUST A SOUL”.. I’m Strong Enough Not To Be A Crackhead. BUT IM A LONER, I’M NOT A PEOPLE PERSON EITHER..
@rogerwilliams47424 жыл бұрын
She did NOT get that right. Human beings aren't built to be alone. I LOVE my alone time but not loneliness. It's a dysfunction derived from fear and insecurity. It's especially obvious in her case. You can't see that?? But there is a small percentage of people who are antisocial to be sure.

So glad you said you are strong enough ... good for you! That’s the most Important thing I think. I believe Saying you don’t Trust a soul can mean a lot of things. One, You can be cautious with people, Two People may not trust others because they themselves are untrustworthy And assume people are like them, OR people may enjoy doing things on Their own. Nothing wrong with enjoying your own company. And if she’s not a people person. ..?..? There is no way, last time i Saw skid row, you are going to have privacy and alone time down There.

This is quite possibly the most heartbreaking story I've heard so far!! I hope we as viewers don't become desensitized to the horrible wounds that were inflicted on these people. It's a wonder they're alive to tell their story. I'm so amazed and so heartbroken.

Her dad passed her senior year, and she’s currently 37. She weeps for him as though it happened last week. It makes me so sad. I just want to hug her. It just goes to show that some scars never heal. We love you honey, hang in there.

No words can express the misery she's enduring. Sobriety is the #1 thing she needs right now. If you read this comment please take the first step towards sobriety today it's hard but you can do it.

therapy is what she needs at first. how the fuck could you ask a person be sober after going thru shit like she has?
@miapdx5034 жыл бұрын
She's needs to be safe and housed first. No one gets sober in a tent.
@@smiauu I said take the first step. The first step for everyone is different. Could be signing up for therapy, applying for housing, going to a meeting tonight. I didn't say go cold Turkey tonight and all your problems will be solved. One thing is for sure if you don't take the first step in the right direction you'll never get there. Maybe you should read a little slower and think about what your comment should be before you display pure ignorance.

My heart breaks for Imesha. I just want to give her a hug! I think her ability to detect what pure love is was completely tainted as a child, the time in ones life where comfort is found and that is so very sad. I hope Imesha is able to get into counselling to fight all the demons that others have put on her. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for her to pick up and go on a daily basis. Imesha, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, YOU ARE WORTHY, and even if you say you don’t want it, YOU ARE LOVED. I pray for the day when you can see and FEEL all of that..... You DESERVE it. ♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️

How could one not end up feeling angry? How do we change this?
@jetcitygrljewels97194 жыл бұрын
I hurt for Imesha. I knew that when she stated "I do not believe in friends" that she had been deeply wounded in her life. It seems like many people who suffered horrible things build thick walls around them. It is a self-protection mechanism. I have seen this so many times. It is almost like it is easier to feel angry than to break down and cry. Mark has a nurturing way about him. He listens without judgment and he knows how to get to the heart of these people and their stories. I am so grateful that Mark has offered these people a comfortable place to tell their stories, and he listens. I wish that there were more Mark's in this world.
